What went wrong?
the norgroidization of the internet cultureno longer do you see someone creating something for the joy of sharing it with others, it has to be all about money now
one might say the weird sausage peoplebut I think it's more to do with that fact that the OG Source Engine, and the games that came out during it's run (namely half life 2 and tf2) had a certain magic to them. Also the time period, 2004-2012 internet, was just a different time, the internet so much different now. what the guy guy in the first post said, essentially...
>>747607832Gary thought he could make money off NFTs but there's no liquidity
All the market "hustlers" who thought this was going to be the next CS getting BTFO is pretty great tho
>>747609284>(OUTDATED) kek
>>747608823The sausage men were probably the biggest problem but not the only one.Even if you tried tolerating them you then had to deal with the game's poor optimisation and the fact that it was basically trying to be roblox without roblox's key selling point, that the devs would run the servers for whatever you made on the platform.
>>747607832Ugly >But there are loads of other issuesThe first and most glaring issue for new people is that it's ugly

>be Garry Newman>start work on gmod 2 (name autism notwithstanding) for source 2>graftbthe code to hell over time to the point where source 2 shit is incompatible with it>try to pivot to being a Roblox clone in spite of everyone and their granny only caring for the project at first for it because it was going to be gmod 2>flip switches on a dime during closed alpha/beta so devs can't do anything of note for most of it>tack on FOMO cash shop items to try and keep the ship afloat, just draws the kind of loud venture capital newbies that /biz/ would laugh out>after almost a full decade of jackshit it releases as a half-baked shlockfest with minimal-effort garbage lining the entire thing with no actual semblence to Gmod to be seen>and then DELIBERATELY lose out on customers by declining a front-page bump on Steam even though you are actually pissing more money than liquids away daily at this point>don't learn a fucking thing from any of this thanks to Rust and MaxofS2D's cum permanently altering your brain chemistry years ago
>>747607832>paid roblox
Shoulda made gmod 2 and not this reddit sausagefest
>>747612376My favorite part of the launch was the smug cope post they put saying they expected the game to be poorly received abysmal dogshit so your bad reviews don't matter
It really tells me that in-game content should never be monetized.Garry's Mod has excellent content BECAUSE you can't monetize it.It filters out people who only want to make money, and leaves people who are making things because they want them to exist.S&Box and Roblox are shitholes filled with scam slop because third worlders can make a living shoveling garbage for pennies, pushing everything else to the margins.Garry's Mod has trash, but it's trash made by somebody who wanted to make something cool, not somebody wanting to make money scamming kids.I think the best compromise would have been an option to export a standalone game, for those who want to use it as a serious dev tool, and otherwise no in-game monetization.
