>scary as fuck in Edgerunners
>kinda weak pussy bitch in the game
How do you fix him so that he isn't such a pushover compared to V?
>>
>>747608890
David is a buster. V flatlines the entire cringerunners crew in less than 10 seconds.
>>
Well you shouldn't have him killed by the player insert since he's the long running Final Boss of the whole cyberpunk setting and that idea is insulting and lame
Smasher should have been a looming threat, next to impossible to kill, and killing him should be non-canon
>>
>>747608890
V has to be stupidly strong because he operates on his own throughout almost the entire game. Within Cyberpunk as a setting this makes zero sense since the whole point is assembling a squad of specific abilities and trying to do jobs to steal fat stacks of cash or specialist gear. The best stuff V can get is top of the line but it's still street level stuff, but it's not the illegal prototype shit until after. Way more of V's missions with his Fixers should have been contextualized around being given rare blueprints or prototype gear.

Adam Smash isn't Caine from VTM. He's not metaphysically or mechanically unstoppable, he just represents that Arasaka wants the players dead. It's not just that Smasher on his own is scary it's that he often arrives at the head of Arasaka strike teams, technology, netrunners, and often wielding some prototype bullshit just for fun.

He got bodied by Morgan Blackhand whose whole thing is limiting his cyberware use and instead banking on just being really fucking smart and sensible with how he approaches things. The problem is that V's narrative doesn't deal with this mechanic as a character. He's just as borged up as Smasher. If the game's story was better formatted a big part of the preamble to Arasaka should have been figured out an actual plan of assault.
>>
I get that they wanted a big final boss and killing Smasher is a sort of full circle moment but it was wrong. At least in execution. Maybe something as simple as SURVIVE for x minutes while Alt hacks into him would have been enough. AI are going to overcome his cyber defenses and once Alt does, V can actually have a chance to fight back and take him down.
>>
>>747609936
every game is like that though
>>
just have him be fucking HARD
why are games scared of this? If playetesters had a hard time with him at max level (like only scraping by defeating him) then its a good final boss, if the goals was to make an imposing and legendary fight.
>>
>>747610259
A Survive fight with a countdown timer to something would have been good, particularly if finally getting to fight Smasher was more of a reward for holding out really well against more conventional Arasaka strike teams until Smasher decides you're worth his attention.

Even Morgan Blackhand didn't definitively take out Smasher and his whole role in Cyberpunk is "Best Solo who ever lived" so V doing it puts him on such a high pedestal in regards to the setting power rankings that it genuinely just doesn't make sense outside of Phantom Liberty, because at least after the DLC V is 100% rocking Blackwall tech among other high end prototypes so him being able to go toe to toe is a lot more reasonable.
>>
>>747608890
He should have been like Dahaka from prince of persia 2
>>

Like what?

You don't, because in the TTRPG Adam Smasher is the equivalent of a delayed game over screen, where it's over the moment he appears, and you just go through the motions as he deletes everything while taking no damage. He's both a thematic campaign ender and a unique in-universe thing to play around, but also a check for murderhobos, because nothing murderhobo's harder than Adam. Annihilation, personified.
CP2077 is a cheap GTAclone that disrespects everything about the setting, so naturally they'd want the final boss to be le biggest baddest, and for a casual GTA murderhobo player to be able to beat him.

The two concepts are at odds with one another, and ultimately it's not a good thing for the shit game. The Alien in Isolation is how you do Smasher in a game, some overwhelmingly powerful inhuman hunter that you can only really delay (at best, using everything at your disposal).
>>
>>747610627
every game with an endgame. Name a game where you are a weak loser at the end thats not some super linear story game
>>
>>747610637
Still seething I see. Sad.
>>
>>747610721
Every game with an endgame is like what? Poorly written? No, I don't think that's true.

I never said it was narratively unfeasible for V to defeat Adam Smasher, I just said the gear V acquires in base game and the tactics you use shouldn't really be up to par with what Adam should be whipping out. In CP 2077 his arsenal as a boss is quite pathetic. They even give him an iconic experimental explosive smart shotgun... that he doesn't actually use.
>>
>>747608890
>shit game is shit
shocking
the solution is to not make your game a shitty clone of gta
>>
>>747611086
I wouldn't really call CP2077 a GTA clone. GTA's are typically really good at creating a city that has a living feeling to it and lots of immersive stuff to play with. CP2077 is more like a Ubisoft title.
>>
>>747611040
thats ture, i actually posted >>747610413 which is how i feel about the boss, they definitely made him too easy but i think it would still be fair to have V defeat him if the fight was actually hard like Melania or some shit.
>>
>give him state of the art gear V can't have
>remove the ability to stealth attack him
>he has thermal tracking so going camo to escape combat is useless
>his ICE trace and counterattack is a lot faster so cyberdeck builds can get fucked
>any time V uses the sandevistan he automatically uses it too but much faster
>>
>>747611204
I'm on the fence. A major problem with CP 2077 to me is that V does not have the feeling that he is the leader of an actually experienced crew of Mercenaries operating together. I genuinely think the setting would have been immensely more suited to a gameplay in the style of Mass Effect instead of the weird Human Revolution wannabe.

Him being able to access Arasaka to the extent he does is feasible since he has Alt on his side. If the fight was deliberately set up in a way that implied Alt was isolating Smasher from the support he would typically expect, then sure a fully borged out V (more so Phantom Liberty V than base game V) could feasibly 1v1 him.
>>
>>747609936
>since the whole point is assembling a squad of specific abilities and trying to do jobs to steal fat stacks of cash or specialist gear
Obviously the player has to be the solo, but I wish the game gave you more companions even if it just added flavor. Like the Panam missions are a good example of teaming up with a techie, and the DLC mission where you pick an NPC to help you with MaxTac is a good example of having netrunner backup, but those types of missions feel too sparse
>>
>>747610637
>He never killed adam smasher with a GM that really, really wanted you dead
lol, stop being such a herolet and bring light to the darkness already despairfag
>>
>>747608890
you need a game with actually good combat and mobility. Make him feel powerful through real gameplay mechanics.
>>747608987
>>747609936
>>747610637
None of this fucking matters, like, genuinely.

Go look at ULTRAKILL. Go look at Sisyphus Prime on Brutal difficulty. He is a towering guy, his moves are fast as fuck and dynamic, he is relentless, you constantly have to move and react and counter with real precision. His healthbar and damage numbers are the least of your concerns. As long as youre not using that one gay weapon that deals huge damage shooting at the floor, the challenge is mechanical.

Thats what adam smasher needed. To be a dynamic, fast relentless guy who alternates hammering you with powerful hard to avoid melee moves and dashing & sliding around firing really strong ranged attacks. Make him hard because of the actual gameplay mechanics and now hes a boss you genuinely need to struggle against and learn. Assuming cyberpunk was a game with actually good movement mechanics.
There you go, perfect final boss.

Its time FPS games evolve from being stale boring dogshit
>>
>>747611823
It's weird that your Fixers are all a bunch of randoms who sort of just agree to give you work because you happened to show up and you role with it as opposed to your Fixer being YOUR Fixer.

Same goes for Ripperdocs. Trusting half of the doctors V visits feels insane particularly the 3 or so that are hard confirmed to be scavenging implants from their own patients. Your go to guy should be Vic and he should have questlines about getting him a better facility, better equipment, and better blueprints. Not having a crew that grows and evolves around V's meteoric rise makes the world feel very static.
>>
>>747612228
I don't give a fuck if the game wants to be a cover shooter or a spaz shooter. I'd enjoy it either way as long as the way they did it made me immersed in the setting. Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't do that. I'd agree that the game's major issue is the piss poor gameplay that doesn't appropriately develop any of the niches it allows for. I would much rather prefer a game fully focused on being a Netrunner or one fully focused on being a chromed out Solo. But as much as I would want that for the sake of gameplay I'd equally want it so the game could present a halfway cognizant character and story arc.
>>
>>747608890
mods to the rescue again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyatQJrXWEU
>>
>>747612585
Well, i was talking about immersion and entertainment for Adam Smasher's battle specifically. If you made his fight mechanically good, nobody would be worried about how he compares to the mythical trump card he is supposed to be, because it would feel earned.
>>
>>747612639
This actually draws something to my attention. The game should be way more lethal and cover should be a bigger deal. Lethality is a major aspect of combat in the TTRPG. When every weapon is some fully automatic smart rifle with an explosive depleted uranium core ammunition then even Smasher shouldn't be standing as long as he does. When you pull out some sniper rifle enemies know can piercing their armor they should move to cover to increase their odds. Instead in a world with guns that can pierce everything and Hacks that can kill anyone you look at everyone is just standing out in the open. The world feels dumb.

Bosses aren't fun because they make the player feel weak and from a lore perspective the stuff you're fighting ends up feeling weaker than it should because you have so much shit to just absord, dodge, or generally ignore their attacks. The player should be constantly scrambling for cover while also trying to get an opening to shoot a boss' weak point.
>>
>>747608890
He thought you were a piece of fuckable meat *blushes*
>>
>>747613359
If this game had real balls it'd let us romance Smasher.
>>
>>747613280
there's a mod for that (hardcode22), but because of high lethality most tank builds end up useless and you either become a netrunner, sniper or skulk around while constantly in cover otherwise you get one-tapped
>>
>>747613428
I swear to god you fags act like 14 year old girls wanted everything to be centered on romance.
>>
>>747613280
A Cyberpunk Version of Ready or Not/SWAT where you play as Max Tac and have to neutralize Cyberpsychos would be pretty good.
>>
>>747613714
You're at the stage where you're no long able to tell when someone is joking. That means it's time to take a break from the internet.
>>
>>747613680
The games maps and enemies would need to be better designed around it for it to be well done. You couldn't just crank up the damage and call it a day. Preferably you'd have a pretty sophisticated limb/organ based damage system and something like specific drug effects.
>>
>>747613428
How awesome would that be?
You can convince him to turn on Arasaka with the power of your Vage or Vsshole
>>
>>747613906
yeah definitely
not even mention boss fights like the chimera which should be able to melt you in 0.1 sec
>>
>>747608890
He's only hot shit in Edgerunners because whats his face wasn't used to dealing with somebody on his level, let alone someone who had better tech than he did. He was used to activating his crutch and forgetting about it, he was completely out of his depth with Adam Smasher.
>>
>>747613994
Not to mention that cyberware would typically be a lot more grounded. Something like Berzerk just letting you not die and Sandevistans turn you into the Flash isn't really supposed to happen.
>>
Would Edgerunners have gone differently if V showed up?
>>
>>747614246
Yeah. Adam Smasher only won because he was smarter, stronger, faster and better in every way.
>>
>>747610637

What's the point in all those body modifications if you're still just as vulnerable with them, as you were as a full biological human?
In both instances you need to take cover or you die, so what's the point?
>>
>>747615862
I don't know how non Sandevistan users beat Sandevistan users but I know it's possible because I kill 3 of them every random fight

Turning death into an serious injury, turning a serious injury into a superficial injury, turning superficial injuries into nothing.

Plus all the non armor related implants, you stupid pig.
>>

Throw an EMP grenade at them and/or shoot it out of midair. Or just hack them and turn their Sandevistan off.

>>
>>747616061
I bet if Adam was just a disembodied head in a jar, Dave would have annihilated him in seconds.
>>
>>747608890
It's funny, the only reason Smasher is scary in Edgerunners is because of his reputation from the game. If you took the game out of the equation, and Edgerunners was a completely original anime, everyone would be complaining that this ludicrously OP big bad came out nowhere and just curbstomped the hero and his entire team in about 30 seconds.

Also, is it just me or is it really bizarre that nobody in the Cyberpunk game has heard of David Martinez? He went on a rampage through the heart of Night City with an advanced experimental cyberskeleton, plowing through road after road of heavy traffic, easily killing thousands of people, flinging trucks around like toys, then stormed the top of Arasaka tower and vanished into a crater below corpo plaza with half the cops in the city shooting at him. But when V, only a few years later, learns about him, he's like "who the fuck was this guy?".
>>
>>747617992
Absolutely retarded take and I think you know that. Try harder next time
>>
>>747617992
Isn't this by design? I just got his jacket earlier today, and among the dialogue choices they even give you one asking why is it that people don't talk about him.
Silverhand is supposedly one of the legends of Night City but people's memory of him whenever the subject comes up tends to be hazy, even though his name persevered his ideals and whatnot didn't. Nobody really gives a fuck about him.
I thought it was supposed to show that this blaze of glory that is worth throwing your life away is as meaningless and ephemeral as they see a life without chasing that status.
The only difference between the average joe and the legend is that the average joe got to live longer, they're both meanigless.
>>
>>747617992
While yeah, anon. They didnt need to introduce him because people played the game. Without the game I would have skipped the anime. I imagine they would have mentioned Adam and gave a quick blurb about his backstory if they made the anime without having made the game.
>Also, is it just me or is it really bizarre that nobody in the Cyberpunk game has heard of David Martinez?
Agreed. Was the anime set before or after cp2077? I thought it was a few years before 77 so everyone should know. .
When does edgerunners 2 come out?
>>
>>747617992
>is it just me or is it really bizarre that nobody in the Cyberpunk game has heard of David Martinez
Yeah it is weird
probably because Edgerunners was likely conceived as a story after 2077 released and the updates they released couldn't be bothered to include substantial dialogue acknowledging david as a legend
>>
>>747618264
It's exactly the year prior.
>>
>>747608890
Make him as mobile as a MG:R boss both since he's basically proto-Sundowner and also because him being slow and while at the same time heavily-telegraphed is what makes him weak compared to the cyberpsycho fights.

There's no way... thats so dumb lol
>>
>>747618323
Could raiden beat adam?
I bet he could do it
>>
>>747618397
If V is canonically supposed to be able to beat Smasher with the comparatively limited chrome/weapon selection at their disposal, a full borg like Raiden should definitely be a match, though I wonder how he'd counter the Sandevistan.
>>
People talking about cyberpunk pre the video game and I’ve never seen a single person mention the actual franchise before 2020, I always thought it was just a genre
>>
>>747618802
Even in the TTRPG scene it was always kind of niche and playing second-fiddle compared to Shadowrun, though other cyberpunk works would borrow bits and pieces for their own creation.

Raider would obliterate Adam. Without sandevistan, Raiden would rip him in half before he can even react. With sandevistan, he’ll last a few seconds I guess. Raiden flipped Metal Gear Exelcious, which weighs over 10000 tons. He held back a 50k ton battleship, got run over by it and lived, in his weakest cyborg body. He reflects 50 cal bullets from tanks and helicopters with no effort. I think Adam would get stomped by Metal Gear Ray, the first boss of Revengeance.
>>
>>747619606
Yeah I'd imagine Adam would last about as long as Sundowner did, which is to say barely long at all if you know what you're doing in that fight. In the TTRPG, he even has a similar gimmick where if the party actually prepares against him he'll call Arasaka air support to grease the odds in his favor.
