It was the first console to properly do 3D games.Looking back at the PS1 catalogue, you realize most games struggle to show 3D environments. Some of the most popular games of the console, like Final Fantasy VII or Metal Gear Solid, are played on a fixed camera and without a Z axis. Games that are fully 3D are ripping at the seams, with wobbly textures and thick fog. Compare that with the complex and detailed environments of games like Banjo-Tooie and Majora's Mask, the difference is night and day.
