why aren't you gaming on an oled?
>muh burn in
>too expensive
you can buy a 4k 240hz 4th gen QD-OLED for as cheap as 600 bucks
even if at the tiniest possibility it gets burn in in the first five years, surely you can burn 600 bucks every few years? you're not a brown turdworlder aren't you?

CRT is the best possible monitor to game on and most of the actually good games are designed for it

My next monitor will be OLED. I'm convinced that's it's good, and i have dim room. But I'm going for 1080p/60hz or 1080p/120hz. Conivnce me to get ultra hd, you likely won't.

its not can i afford to burn $600 every few years, its more id rather burn it on other more fun things that provide me higher quality of life improvements. I already have some color accurate monitors with high refresh rates. I have an oled I'll use for content consumption but its not impressive enough to move my whole setup to it or daily drive them. $600 sadly isnt a lot of money these days, but thats still $600 i can put towards other things i find way more interesting or useful.

spending money on your hobbies is fine though. its just that vidya isnt really a hobby. it may be a social thing for you, it may be a source of entertainment, but its not a hobby

4:3 is the best aspect ratio and I don't know of any high resolution 4:3 OLED displays.
16:9, 16:10, 21:9, and other widescreen slop formats were a mistake. Widescreen was just cinema deliberately mangling their footage to sabotage TVs that were easier to manufacture with more square-ish toob shapes when they were still CRTs, but that's just not how human vision works.
50% of your optical cortex is dedicated to a small 2 by 1.5 degree (4:3 HAH) section of your vision and visual acuity in your peripheral vision roughly halves every 2 degrees after that out to 30 degrees, so widescreen pixels are wasted pixels.

I HAVE THIS
when it arrived, it was really glossy. like REALLY GLOSSY that i could fully see my own face even in dark environments. i was going to return it because the last thing i want to look at while im jacking off is my own face but not before i saw a yellow tab on the side of the monitor. turns out the reason it was so glossy was because there was a protective plastic film covering the screen LOL

Yeah that's how long it'll last. Hope you're happy with dropping 700 dollars every 3 years.

I don’t notice enough of a difference to give a shit. My favorite video game graphics were late 2010s era. Hyper realistic graphics are a waste of time and money. I play games for the gameplay and atmosphere . It’s like buying the most expensive golf clubs when I’m really just playing golf to have fun and I could’ve had just as much fun using a cheap set of clubs

Because I spent almost a grand on a monitor a couple years before all the OLED monitors came out.

(At least it still is a nice monitor. It's really not even close when I compare the colors and latency to the IPS screen in my Steam Deck. I really wish that thing launched with the OLED screen (or at least a decent IPS screen). Being an early adopter always bites me in the ass)

The jump from 1080p to 1440p is genuinely insane. LED to OLED is even more insane. 1440p OLED is such good gaming. Idk why it took me so long to upgrade

Burn in makes oled trash
>>
>>747642618
burn is a solved issue
>>
I could invest the 600 dollars every 5 years instead and just continue to use my perfectly serviceable monitor for free
>>
>>747642743
If it was a solved issue every manufacturer's warranty wouldn't specifically exclude burn-in claims kek
>>
>>747643813
i recently bought an oled monitor that came with 3 year warranty specifically for burn in
it also has firmware that do pixel cleaning while the monitor is turned off or idle for an adjustable period of time
>>
>>747629963
There‘s a 1080p/240hz oled coming but it‘ll probably be very expensive
>>
>>747641532
An oled monitor is the single biggest upgrade you can make to your setup and with how fucked pc part prices getting one is actually (relatively) cheap. You can find good 1440p oleds for 350-400 bucks
>>
>>747642743
except its not
>>
got an oled
never bothered to configure HDR

i dont want to turn sliders for every single game all the fucking time
>>
>>747629645
Mine has dogshit uniformity so now I have to retoorn it ten billion times to get a good panel and have them all turn out the exact same
>>
>>747644312
it is sufficiently solved to the point that you will never get burn in if you actually use it for gaming or varied tasks. if you turn it on and let it sit for months focused on the same static content then yeah, maybe. but if thats your usecase you wouldnt benefit from OLED to begin with
>>
>>747629645
Too cheap. No decent size ones that are over 120Hz.
>>
>>747644253
A new monitor comes last in my upgrade schedule.
First is a steam frame, then mobo + ddr5 + 9800x3d (or better) and then a new monitor.
I don't play that many flat games anymore.
>>
>>747644546
>steam frame

Actually i checked the prices, and i'm not getting oled it seems, too expensive. Well, then 24" IPS fullHD. Probably more than 60Hz is mostly a meme also.

he's right though. every hardware discussion is always derailed by spiteful sour grapes thirdies because they cant afford anything. imagine a speedboat discussion and some faggot comes in and says *heh, my 20 year old fishing boat still works fine, let me guess, you need moar haha XD*. its retarded. why would i settle for less when i live in a prosperous first world nation and have money to spent.
>>
>>747629645
OLED is the wireless mouse of displays, in good and bad.
>>
>>747644856
Imagine discussing submersibles and someone keeps saying that the Titanic is the best submersible because it's more expensive and has more features.
OLEDs are a rapidly decaying meme and aren't available in good, square aspect ratios.

>>747646248
you analogy sucks and you're wrong

I can indeed, but I loathe the idea of waste; especially so, if it plays into the hands of the corpos who expect me to keep handing over money to them regularly. Hence I have as few active subscriptions as possible (no streaming of films or music) as well.

In person the black is much better because of eye HDR bullshit.
My LCD displays (the other thing i can afford), look basically gray next to the TV.
But i do have an OLED phone, and playing games with black backgrounds like gradius II on it is quite wild, because it looks like the phone is turned off except for the ships.

not gonna lie, switching to an OLED monitor has been one of the best purchases ive made recently. not one single regret

Why should I?
Give a good reason to CONSOOOOOOOM.
I used to play Dark Souls 1 on a laptop with a terrible proc/gpu in a postcard resolution to have enough FPS and it is still the best experience I ever had.

Why should I buy a big flashy screen for the same experience?
>>
>>747652427
It's not the same experience, it is better, and it's something that upgrade every game you play, from the AAAA slop to space cadet.

However it's a consumable, and unless you're willing to do the thing of just using the screen to play like i do with my tube TV, you will end up with burn in.
