>Concord: died in less than a week
>Death Stranding 2: sold 20% what the first game did
>Soros: Sold 400k and was instantly forgotten
>Physint: Taken with Kojimas exodus to xbox
>Physical discs: going away, also our lawyers say you dont own digital purchases you fuckin' chud
>Wolverine: massive critical and commerical flop, needs to sell 5 million units just to cover its production budget before marvels 30% cut, not projected to do 1/5th of this
>Hunters Gathering: in dev hell getting restarted
>Fairgamedollarsign: on 3rd reboot with 5th director
>Every other Sony live service: shut down before they even released

and yet, despite every expectation to the contrary, Marathon is still here 7 months later, outsold all of the above, and is getting ready for its new season and largest ever content update next week. Did you ever imagine this was the Sony timeline we lived in?
>>
GEEEEG or something idk
>>
>also our lawyers say you dont own digital purchases you fuckin' chud

So...just like steam?

Remember gog doesn't have this problem. I own the games forever no one can restrict my access, censor them or use any legality to restrict my access. I own them as backups.

>Marathon is still here 7 months later, outsold all of the above
4 billions for this btw
>but muh bungie live service expertise
Resulted in Concord and other live service crap, bungie is not gonna last long, marathon might stay alive but technically dead like KF3
>>
>>747632776
But Death Stranding on its own sold nearly twice that of Marathon and is a single player game while Marathon is at, what? 2k concurrent players as a live service multiplayer game?
>>
>>747632776
>Concord: died in less than a week
>Marathon is still here 7 months later
These points are connected. Sony ignored the truth about Concord's reception up until it was a complete catastrophe. Meanwhile the lead up to Marathon's release had
>mockery at its reveal for having the square-root of shit-all to do with the series it took its name from, and for being another unwanted live service shooter
>mockery once the news came out of how expensive it was to acquire Bungie, and scorn from the players they actually had for Destiny 2 for it being cancelled to shift resources over to Marathon
>the public humiliation of one of the people on the project live-streaming what they had, and catching blast after blast of shrapnel from chat about the general low quality of the product and plagiarism, leading to another delay
There's no fucking way Marathon wasn't headed to a similar reception as Concord, and being inside spitting distance of Concord's release, if Marathon was equally stillborn it would have had starker implications for leadership.
So Marathon isn't actually allowed to die yet. They'll hook it up to jumper cables and defibrillate it periodically just to avoid "Concord 2" headlines affecting their stock value.

And people actually think this is going to be allowed to live after the Season 3 bump inevitably fails to be retained. I wouldn't be shocked if it's a noticeably worse bump than Free Week was as well. They're 100% waiting for official GTA6 figures to start coming in to help cushion the blow of announcing EoS.

Sony would rather burn money in an obvious failure that suffer another Concord in terms of public humiliation.
>>
>>747632776
Nobody that actually has both the power and cares enough wants to kill Marathon yet, cause it would be the definitive proof that Sony spent bilions to buy Bungie for absolutely nothing.
This is the kind of failure that could end up with the CEO and other high positioned managers getting sacked by the board of shareholders, especially after the other live service failures like Concord.
So Marathon must live, no matter how few people are playing it.
>>
>>747641423
Do keep in mind, there's way more at stake here. Concord was already bad enough, but that was "only" ~$400mil all-in for the game and developers, and just one game (and a handful of overly zealous promotional animations). But they spent nearly ten times the amount they dropped on Fire(d)walk AND Concord just to buy Bungie itself, only for Bungie to be the most ruinously incompetent consultants possible for Sony's desire to pursue a stronger GaaS direction, including actively killing games in development and giving the thumbs-up to games that should've been immediately obvious red flags (Fairgame$, whatever happened there...).

There's going to be FAR greater consequences for whenever the chickens come home to roost, so they're trying to delay that as much as they can in the hopes of either a miracle comeback that has to be studied, or that their golden parachutes will be ready for them in time.

They're in their Arrogant Timeline again, but this time they're actually, factually and objectively failing and stumbling instead of the usual 'got nothing to show for' for a couple of years

PS6 will have nothing to be look forward to if they continue this path and they're exploiting existing users as a milk cow instead of enticing new ones with good games. All of this is completely needless btw. They're shooting themselves with a uzi in their own foot

It depends on how bad/tedious the PVE element will be. If those 4-map-runs suck ass and rewards are some shit you can get from a red key room in Command Wing or any gold key room - its gonna be dead, Jim. Same with Rook and progression. If Rook is nerfed or kept as a cuck - its gonna be iffy. Same with progression - if its going to be same lame shit as in S2 its bound to die.

>faction rewards are mats
>not even enough mats for anything
>mats that sould be only on TCIV
>no shields as rewards
>no weapons or consumables or mods, just mats
S1 was much better.

>>
Hate to say it but gta will save playstation. The amount of cash that game will bring in upselling other games to new buyers will be insane.
>>
>>747646047
My point is, there is nothing on firmware level that would allow them to do what you say (on smart TVs they could though, maybe), because the monitor is not directly connected to the internet.
Your PC is, but they need programs that run on your SO amd periodically upload pictures, and that kind of traffic can be monitored and intercepted by any user that install a network packet monitoring software like Wireshark.
So yes, they could maybe technically do it, but it would be difficult, easy to discover and would bring massive financial lossess to any company that was found out.
Plus, it's pretty unnecessary: if big tech wants to screw you, they can just monitor your internet traffic via an internet provider and the instant someone uplaod a loli picture in a thread you are browsing they can say you have CP on your PC.
>>
>>747642373
No not like Steam. Because if steam ever shuts down or you want to archive your games without having to use the steam client which is heavily proprietary you can't do that without breaking the law

Gog you own the games legally under law steam you do not as most have DRM

But you already knew this. You just want to argue despite what law says.
>>
>>747646619
I'm curious about this actually: from what I understand, while it's certainly easier to keep playing your games on Gog if the servers were ever shit down (that is, you wouldn't need to download a crack), in theory aren't you supposed to delete your Gog games, since they are still ultimately legally a license?
>>

Have you seen the game store? Hahaha fucking $17 for red or white color. F2p would mean higher server costs with no extra income.
0 players is perfect for them as that keeps maintenance costs low
>>
>>747646943
IIRC they made it free to try for a time (and that's were the peak is from), the problem is that most players bounced back immediately and uninstalled it well before the free trial even finished.
When the free trial ended, only a tiny percentage choose to buy it, which barely contributed to slowing down the fall in player numbers.
So even with a f2p model it probably wouldn't be a success.

If your modem is from xfinity it records your movements in your home. If you own any LG smart devices, they audio and sometimes video record everything in front of them. They have limited onboard data storage for when there is no network, but upload their recordings as soon as they can connect to your phone or internet. Nearly all smart devices with audio controls are recording and uploading that data 100% of the time they are online. If you have a smart vacuum with ir/visual mapping, it uploads the scans/video to its company. If you have smart climate control, it allows for offsite control, and user lockouts. If you have a 5g smartphone, it is recording and uploading audio at all times. It is recording every call you make on every app. It is recording your location, even when location is turned off. It is taking pictures of your face while you are using it. These are all well published facts, had stories in the mainstream news, and no one has cared. Convenience is worth the privacy invasion.

The difference is that those games don't become hardware-gated when I upgrade.

>They are abandoning Zeiglers bullshit to give everyone what they want
>PVE mode with the Tick Queen image confirming leaks
>PVP team deathmatch
>Social Space
>Firing Range
>Abandoning the live service "only do major changes at the start of a season model"
>Doing wipe 2 weeks later with new reward pass to undo the damage THEY SAID, SO EAT SHIT THAT ONE GUY, was done by starting season 2 giving sweatkings loot to start with

They are breaking away from the zoomer targeting mindset. This is an absolute win lad.

such a shame cause personally i love the aesthetic of the game, but i can't bring myself to grind not like i did at launch anyways, there's this constant reminder in my head that the servers might be taken down any day cause of lack of players. It might be obvious to others but what really went wrong? did everyone just stop caring for extraction shooters or is it all because of the plagiarism?...

>Marathon is still here 7 months later, outsold all of the above

Death Stranding 2, 2.5 million sales, $170 million revenue
Marathon, 1.2M Sales, $55 million revenue

Guess which one will still be getting sales 1 year, 5 years and 10 years from now
