Controversial take:
Every first person game should have full body awareness, anything less is just the devs being lazy especially if the game also features a third person mode so those animattions are already in the game.

Hey, I've seen this webm before!
>>
>>747633123
First person and third person usually use different animations, sometimes different models too
>>

>retarded diminutive take that doesn't take into account many types of fps where body awareness will get in the way of the gameplay
What's the deal with vegetables having firm inflexible opinions and being very vocal about them?

They don't have to.
If you make good third person animations you can just slap a camera on the characters head and it's all good.

The dishonored let's play with the devs that was made recently talked about it. Trying to include body awareness the way they did in Dark Messiah clashed with the more floaty movements of Corvo's. So they trashed it. To translate the feeling of weight and inertia they opted on stronger camera movements/sways.
>>
VR has had it for years.
>>
>>747636320
I have watched that actually and they scrapped it beacuse it was too much work fixing glitches when crouching under tables etc.
It was a huge loss because I loved it in Arx and DM.
If they had more time and money they would have included it.

No, you can't. First person games have vastly different camera animations than the third person animations would suggest with the head movement. Even if you aren't susceptible to motion sickness, it would be annoying as fuck for gameplay.
>>
>>747636921
No, it's pretty good actually.
Chronicles of Riddick does it and a ton of modded games do it too and it works amazing. It's all lazyness.
Some games may require first person hand animations, but they can coexist perfectly with a third person body like FEAR does it.

You forgot you can't have tits in games nowadays because le objectification, so looking down would just be just looking on normal plain clothes, so why even bother
>>
>>747633123
In first person, you don't want the head, hair or legs appearing when not wanted. So the 3rd person animation is often mutated to keep them out of the way. The companies making games also don't want you doing what you're doing there, and showing tits. Cause streamers that want family friendly ads and shareholders get mad.
>>
>>747637425
It's trivial to just not render the head/hair mesh, literally a bit flip.
>>
>>747637694
why would you do that, when your goal is to remove as much stuff as you can that isn't needed to improve performance?

Here's a dos game from 1997, if they could do it why can't modern devs?
Instead they will add random decoration items like vases and drinking cups with 80k polygons.

I agree. Back in the day, particularly the early/mid 2000s, having the player modeled in first-person view was fairly common. Then it seemed to disappear; I chalk this up to the 7th gen consoles biting off more than they could chew, and needing to cut corners to try to claw back performance.

But those days are long gone. There's really no excuse not to have it now. Same goes with functional mirrors but that's a whole different matter.

It's surprising how well it works as well with only a small amount of work required to fix edge cases.
Here's a work in progress first person + upcoming vr mod for re5. All that's missing is re-enabling the head when doing third person stuff.
>>
>>747639000
Cool stuff, will this mod work without VR too?
I feel like replaying RE5.
>>
>>747639124
I think so? Usually all the work that goes into getting the 3rd person RE game to work properly in first person gets backported to flat.
I'm waiting for motion control support to come out before trying it out but you can follow the project here : https://github.com/SpreadTheBirb/ResidentEvil5VR

>>747639000
That transition to 3rd person from 1st for the melee moves is so smooth, somehow manages to look better than the official version seen in RE9
