Which one do you like more? Rome 2 or attila and why?
I enjoy attila more despite not being as polished. It's the only tw game where I enjoy using cavalry, it genuinely feels fun and rewarding if played correctly

V never talks about total war :(
>>
neither
they play vastly worse than the older titles

Total War Attila has a very weird AI. Instead of trying to build an Empire themselves, they prefer to just fuck the player over and suicide themselves into player armies and settlements. This results in a situation, where even in the endgame you are still fighting against random borderline OPMs, instead of a big rival Empire. That is what kinda ruins the game. Also the settlement building is very arcadey, very boardgame-like. Because of corruption and public order you are not happy with more territory. Just owning one piece of a province is genuinely useless. You will never be able to control public order there. Also provinces in a large Empire only become useful with a lot of upgrades, which takes time. This leads to strategies of just abandoning the Roman Empire to consolidate in Italy, Hispania or North Africa.

And even the consolidates provinces are kinda unfun. You don't just build a gold mine in a province with gold mines to get a ton of money. You first have to stick to a certain blueprint to make the province work. Sanitation building, food, public order. Often there simply isn't enough space to fit in a money-making or resource building, because you first need to satisfy these 3 things. And everything has a malus. If you start upgrading, sanitation gets worse, food gets worse. Fuck, Christian churches straight up delete the income of an entire region, netting you nothing, unless the region is overall more wealthy than the income malus they introduce.

The battles alone don't make up for this desu.

That's every modern TW game
>>
Attila is better from a campaign perspective. if you want to deal with an enemy without having to occupy and pacify their province, you can just erase it from existence in Attila. In attila you can also play as true nomads without any settlement while Rome 2 nomads are just settled larpers.
>>
For vanilla I prefer Attila, but Rome 2 with the divide et impera mod (plus the AI uses population submod) is my favorite TW experience in general. I can't imagine CA themselves putting out anything that comes close

I agree strictly in terms of battle mechanics but if you're into the broader grand strategy aspects the older games just fall apart, nothing that happens on the campaign map makes any sense in those games

>NOOOOO THIS ISNT LIKE OLD TOTAL WAR WHERE YOU JUST MINDLESSLY BUILD EVERYTHING
>I HAVE TO....LE THINK AND...LE PLAN IN MY STRATEGY GAME?
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Attila with the mod that gives you a roman empire start position in Britain
Rome 2 if unmodded
the reasoning is basically which has the best roman legion larping testudo jerkoff session, and the Attila mod has the best
>>
Which one has the best large scale mod? I remember really enjoy DeI on rome 2. Has that gotten better, is there an equivalent for Attila?
>>
I fucking love Raw Latot: Alitta

What makes dei so great? I haven't played rome 2 with it, only vanilla

attila
something feels wrong in rome 2's combat
but I really just enjoy attila's campaign more
like defending against a full stack with just 4 defending units and winning is so satisfying

western rome campaign at high difficulty is very fun

Total war ROME II is better for new player's, and the DIVIDE ET IMPERA mod for it is excellent. Though Atilla has more interesting things going on with the migration system and the western empire collapse.

Its far more realistic and adds a tremendous amout of units, and new mechanics, like population type, meaning you cant recruit full armys of noble spearmen, because there may be only 600 nobles in a city who can become noble spearmen etc.
>>
>>747647681
So that's it? They add the pop system no-one ever liked and like 5 extra units?
>>
>>747647946
No?
>>
>>747647946
It adds too much to reasonably summarize in a 4chan post, it changes and expands basically every system in the game along with adding many of its own such as supply lines and population. It basically turns it into an actual grand strategy game. In terms of new units there are an absolute shit ton, idk where you got 'like 5'. Theres a unit roster on their website.
Just read their docs if you actually want to know what it does (https://divideetimperamod.com/guides/)
>>
>>747648521
Though I should add that their website doesn't do a great job of summarizing and documenting all the changes, I've had to pick a lot of things up just by playing and reading tooltips
>>
>>747648675
They have nothing that tells you what's changed. Not their site, not their steam workshop page, nothing
>>
>>747649316
It's spread around on their website between patch notes and guide pages. Ask claude for a summary if you need one, but you can just read the population and supply lines guides and then start playing. Read tooltips and figure shit out as you go
