Aerith is still a character in FFVII even after death, and obviously there's gonna be some sort of closure of her and Zack fate with Cloud. After all, that is the goal of the remake.I think the nailed it because despite people knowing Aerith is still gonna be dead, they still manage to keep it a mistery. It is a beautiful thing to see people hold on to that hope and go through a journey of loss and acceptance just as Cloud DESPITE knowing Aerith fate beforehand. I don't think a game has ever explored this in this way before. By the start of the game you WANT to save Aerith, but by the end you want her to finally rest and not let her soul keep on going just so she can still fight sephiroth and for the player/Cloud amusement and inability to let things go.
