Breaking a rule well is harder than following it most of the time. I always like to point to mystery novels for this. The Knox Rules aren't hard rules, just guidelines on how to write a good mystery that doesn't cheat the reader out of a satisfying reveal. You can break a Knox Rule and still be satisfying and tell a good true mystery plot, but doing that takes WAY more skill than just following the rules, because in order to break the rule as written without breaking the spirit of the rule, you need to understand why the rule is there to begin with on a deep level. Music parodies are the same way. Sure, you can sometimes cut a syllable and it'll sound fine. But unless you are genuinely really good with music at a level the musical never asks you to be, you're not going to do it right. Usually when it's done in /v/tm it's in a "fuck it, nobody cares if the song gets butchered, I don't want to find a better way to match the original" sort of way, not a "this is just as good as if it matched" sort of way.

Then the big infighting occurs because fans of a certain game or meme or both start to submit songs or vouch for a particular song en masse and then inevitably become the boogeyman of the year.

The original song a few years ago was NOT a case of this, it was just 1 song that had murky details and some bad faith shit going on (and then the song turned out fine and no non-human stuff ended up on the album and people moved on).

Mixes were all over the place, autotune etc. ended up sounding worse than raw vocals desu. Let's use an example, Flush has every little audio detail based around it being a song about shit going down the drains and being in the sewer. The cascading vocals, the echo, the drippiness to the vocals, the cadence of the words like how they say FLUSSSHHHH to sound like an actual toilet flush, all of it is perfectly designed around making it sound like what it is. It's got musical mimesis and text painting on a masterful level. You could try 1000 different topics and never find 1 as well suited to the song than Flush is with it's own lyrics and theme and place within Mewgenics. If other people want to try I won't fault them, but I couldn't dare myself to because I know even if I wrote amazing lyrics and someone gave the performance of their lifetime to sing it, I'd hear it once and go "that's neat, but eh I prefer the original" and then never hear the parody again. Our strengths (personally) come from making songs funnier or twisting them to be about vidya, and you can't do either for Mewgenics music.

Mewgenics specific is still tricky though because they're songs designed around an exact theme, like no matter what you do with Flush, the word replacing "Flush" is only going to sound right if it has a reason to be drawn out and weirdly sung (because it's mimicking a toilet flush sound).
