The belief is that its existence was only willed by someone who has no idea what is actually happening, they just realized AI could make it happen if commanded to do so. Their inability to explain what they created means they can't help fix it or even parse out how to have it fixed by their AI.

>>747652292
Vibecoded means that AI was used to do the grunt work sometimes all of guess work too.
For example you can prompt "hey here's the GitHub can you teach/tell me what progress is left for this recomp and can you do most of the work for me to completing it"?
And the AI just does it and gives you all need and you essentially just become the QA for the AI to test if shit works, level loads;is playable;action causes crash; AI fixes bugs and then you retest. Pretty much skipping 99% of the programming work. All you gotta do is upload the rest to GitHub and some AI can already do that.

The only people that care are autistic trannies that get good boy discord points for recomping games for free

Free recompiles that are not meant to make money and are simply someone using AI to make a PC port is in my opinion a rare case of a ok use of AI.
Its not someone making a game or making shitty Ai assets. Its literally just using an AI like a tool to get an alternate version of a finished man made product.

>GitHub’s Octoverse 2025 report recorded 36 million new developers joining the platform in the past year, with 230 new repositories created every minute. Over 4.3 million AI-related repositories now exist on the platform, representing a 178% year-on-year jump in LLM-focused projects alone. Some 80% of new developers on GitHub use Copilot in their first week.

>A lot of the resulting code will be abandoned.

>The 2026 Open Source Security and Risk Analysis (OSSRA) report from Black Duck, based on analysis of 947 commercial codebases across 17 industries, provides the most authoritative data we currently have on the state of open-source maintenance.

>Its findings are grim. A staggering 93% of codebases contained components with no development activity in the last two years. Only 7% of components in the audited codebases are running the latest available version, and 41% are ten or more versions behind. Black Duck calls this the ‘zombie component’ problem: software that appears functional, is actively relied on, but effectively unmaintained. This maintenance debt creates compounding security risk. When a vulnerability is discovered in a project that hasn’t been touched in years, there is often no maintainer left to fix it.

Ship of Harkinian has gyro aim, and you can set it up so you have items on the d-pad. It's also super easy to mod in the 3DS models if you really must have them, you even get the original's better lighting for it.

all of these recomps are going to be done with the help of AI as it is simply not possible for a human to achieve this in any reasonable time frame. This is exactly the kind of task that AI excels at.
Also it is not exactly "vibecoded" in the normal sense, as the AI is following a very robust spec, being the assembly code of the original game, which translates quite simply into C. There is not much room for imagination on the part of the AI

The part everyone leaves out is that this should be a tool of people who could do (or at least understand) this without AI and are using it as a more efficient way to produce something that humans would require much more time to accomplish.

No one wants know-nothings playing around with tools and surprising themselves at how much they can accomplish while having no comprehension of it.

Dev: "Hey, the PC port of Space Quest Adventures keeps crashing on launch. Here's the crash log, the exact DLL that's faulting, and my system specs."

AI: "I understand your frustration! Game crashes can be really annoying. Here are some general troubleshooting steps:

1. Verify your game files through the launcher
2. Update your graphics drivers
3. Try running as administrator
4. Disable overlays (Steam, Discord, etc.)
5. Lower your graphics settings
6. Reinstall the game

If none of these work, the developers may need to patch it. Would you like me to explain what a DLL is? "

Dev: "The crash log shows it's dereferencing a null pointer in renderer.dll at offset 0x4A2F. This is a code bug, not a driver issue."

AI: "Great observation! Null pointers can be tricky. Have you tried turning off ray tracing? Many players report that helps. Also, is your Windows up to date? Sometimes compatibility mode fixes these things.

Alternatively, you could try playing the original 1994 version — it runs great in DOSBox! Let me know if you'd like a guide on setting that up."

What difference does it make?
Even if we pretend like you're going to read and modify the code it's not like the author matters more than the code itself. Is it correct? Is it readible? What's the actual problem then? Common point made in AI shilling threads: vidya gaem recomps are now MTL doujins for a modern audience. Dumb, inaccurate, no real work was put in, no QA was done, only made for the ass-pats of being first, and they don't understand why they're vilified by people who know better.
>>
>>747653034
Yeah repositories were never abandoned before le evil AI showed up
>>
>>747656268
Eh, like I said I'm not against that but I really don't like when humans aren't interested in being better through AI. AI as a tool is supposed to be a workflow streamliner but I find it so off-putting to know the entire workflow is AI from cradle to delivery. That I can't rely on the human behind it to be useful to me at all.
>>
>>747656334
Because the dev can't code. AI is notoriously shit at fixing itself, creating a spiral death loop. AI coding only works if a companion to someone who can fix it and control it.
>>
This is unironically an application AI excels at.
Massive quantities of trial and error shitcoding to make something that runs more or less like another thing. There is no production occurring here.
>>
>>747656549
>only made for the ass-pats of being first, and they don't understand why they're vilified by people who know better.
You wrote that though. Being first doesn't matter, publishing it does so that you're not the only person working on it. I think all this glory talk is projection since these projects aren't even marketable and draw ire from the vendors.
Your image lends credence to this too.
>>
>>747656689
How can you say that in a thread about this.
If it was notoriously bad you'd have a laundry list of examples.
So far all I've read is speculation on things that contradict reality, as in past tense. This already exists and works. Where's the "notoriously bad at fixing" part?
>>
AI generated artwork and writing is a lot more unnerving than AI generated code will be because coding is deterministic and has rules that have to be followed, which is something AI can be very useful for.

I can't see why AI just throwing together an image or writing out a whole story based on some guidance from a few lines of prompting should be commended or be appreciated.

AI's problem is that it gets any retard up to a "mediocre" level of output and that's "good enough" for anybody that's going to touch it and think it's magic. It doesn't exist to streamline workflows or any of that pig shit Sam Altman keeps braying, that would imply the programs exist for the already-competent, who won't have any use for the Do It For Me machine that needs a baffling amount of middleware to force it into checking its own work. As soon as you encounter a problem too technical for the LLM, it's toast. Same problem as ever, an LLM cannot "think" and so is useless for problems past a certain point of complexity.

Never mind that if LLMs were as good as purported, we'd soon have no experts anywhere, because why would anybody study that if there's a Do It For Me machine that can verifiably churn out excellent results.

To play devil's advocate, AI maturation is supposed to reduce that over time because it evolves based on past performance.

You can get increasingly flawless output through several generations of refinement through AI.

What I feel like might be a problem is that AI doesn't have a DESIRE to improve. It can do something better but it's not necessarily interested in a quality product. That's why the accusations of AI-generated spaghetti code have come up (you get a running program but it feels inscrutable and trying to parse out where it can be cleaned up and shaved down to be more maintainable or inefficiency weeded out becomes a hassle because what's to say any AI you throw at that job won't just layer something else on that achieves the result with none of the refinement).

Your post is technically true,
But it's because AI are being made as instruction following tools.

If your first sentence was

your example post would have been
"Sure let me get to work on blah blah blah
(spawned 3 agent workers)
Worked for 23 minutes and 17 seconds

I used the crash log as references to analyze the programs fault behavior and was able to fix the issue. The code clears 1,539 automated test checks. In the process I also found this other thing you didn't even know was happening and..."

We only have decades of open source projects in practice to base our assumptions off of. And in recent time we only have dozens of projects like this. And every day we get more AI models that any individual can run no differently than the original author did.

This is why AI actually is good for large quantities of low quality work, overseen by someone with better things to do, or as a tool for know-nothings to do small amounts of ad-hoc programming where inefficiencies or imperfections are fine, and where the effort investment to payout for actually learning it doesn't dip positive.
Recomps are a good example of the former, while shit like consolidating or integrating mods, is a good example of the latter.

I tolerate AI generated hentai because, while it's noticeable that I'm looking at AI, the whole point of porn is that you're there to consume a specific type of content and so if an AI at least makes that much satisfying then you can overlook that it's got some annoying imperfections and quirks that no human artist would ever make (to a point).

But AI-generated pictures that aren't porn, just a picture, don't have that advantage and if I'm looking at the totality of an image and not just the part where dick goes into pussy then I lose my taste for it.

Yes you may be an autistic tranny programmer then
This literally is for the average joe who is like "I kinda wanna play this specific version of klonoa on PC with all the benefits of modern hardware" and then AI does the work while you QA your way to the end until it works, which is usually quicker than waiting for an actual programmer to pick it up or paying them for a free project
>>
>>747659927
>if I were an experienced programmer why would I ever let the Mediocrity Engine do my work for me
Scale. This is why senior programmers become managers of junior programmers.
Do I want to create 100 different bespoke well engineered programs? Yes I do.
Do I have time to in my lifetime? No I do not.
It's acceptable to try and get someone else to attempt it while guiding them. You'll get 90% of 90% versus 100% of 1%.

AI simply replaces those juniors.
I already know how to program and how to program well. I know what the resulting program should look like. The only thing preventing its realization is actually writing and testing the code. Which the AI is capable of.

I have to review it anyway. Even if I handwrite it, I review my code. I review my junior's code. I review the AI's code.
It all gets refined by hand into something acceptable at worst, and something that mimicks my standard at best.

Now factor in costs and availability and most importantly the speed of training / skill acquisition.

Will I, mr fancy pants expert programmer, be willing and able to spend my time going out, looking for a team of qualified game engine developers, and will they join me on my effort to port someone else's product, for free? Or is that an unrealistic expectation.
Now contrast this to the fact I can launch 100 parallel AI agents on my desktop for the cost of electricity and the speed of a day to train, a day to execute, a day to review. Not quarters. Not millions. Days and cents, not droves of people, a single programmer and a few programs.

I hate generative AI. I hate AI art, AI music, AI prose.

AI in software development IS inevitable. it automates grunt work to an astronomical degree. it's used EVERYWHERE. now ideally you want skilled programmers who know what they're looking at when it comes to output, and I think it will become a problem eventually as people start understanding their code less and less. but it is 100% unavoidable.
>>
I've been playing around with GPT6 Ultra in Codex for a week and I kind of get the feeling that it's designed around a certain amount of usage per task with a sliding scale window.
The "I dont understand what you said" simplification is: It kinda only has, say, "30 codes" it wants to make any time it runs. A simple program might get "15 codes" when it only needed 5, a complex one might get "50 codes" when it needed 200.

What it should be used for is, 1 part of a program at a time. I.e, the entire UI window, the renderer, the options and controls, etc. One part at a time.
It should not be used by a recomp slopper who only tells it
"So take this game rom and this already decomped project and turn it into a windows game that just works at 1080p"

>>
>>747661195
>senior programmers still need to know what they're looking at, something a vibe-coder is not likely to be capable of
Anon, that senior programmer is the "vibe-coder". He does not suddenly lose his insight once he utilizes AI.

This is not "feel like" this is the prerequisite, and if you have it, you get that scale boost. Which is what the Anon I replied to asked.
His question can be rephrased
>why would an experienced programmer use AI to maximize their leverage when they could just do less things manually?

You know I tracked my token usage against gen time and seen the system is somehow producing on average 3500 token per second.
The kind of hardware alone for that to be possible, for the scale of the models being used is in the millions as it requires a complex setup of racks and interlinks. And then there's the what is likely 30+kw power use for that user at that AI model at those rates. 8 hours of electricity use alone at 30kw is $36.
They're letting $200/mth Pro 20x accounts use up to a billion tokens per day with multi agent.

$200 a month.
8 hours uses $36 of juice.

>>747662084
>a staggering number of companies have utterly eaten shit and failed to replace their human workers with "agentic" AI
Pareto principle existed before AI. Most workers are useless to begin with. They don't need to be replaced they need to be reduced. 20% of the workforce with AI could manage most workplaces.

>>
>>747664086
If the remaster omits Master Quest or sells it as DLC I'll die laughing.
>>
>>747663950
>how quickly would you have been able to?
Not quickly at all since I don't even do game development. I'm not even qualified for this and if I had to it would take me a long time to learn and apply it effectively so it would cost an infeasible amount. If you went to someone else I'd say year rates vary depending, but it's not likely to be cheap depending on the standard you set.

Contrast this to AI where you can feed it a pdf of a manual / spec and have it producing working implementations of things it never trained on within an hour.

I'm a systems programmer not a graphics or game developer. They get paid a lot more than we do and they do much harder work. People think it's not complicated because it's a recreation but games have stupid amounts of constraints and require exploiting hardware and math to the extreme. And they're always riddled with mental illness so the talent ends up killing themself.
