The kind of society where we could have that is gone now and bringing it back would require killing a lot of people.

It's pretty wild how something that was once so ubiquitous is now almost unheard of outside a handful of genres. I ended up buying a used Xbone a few years back just to buy up older games that still have splitscreen, along with all the Xbox stuff I never got to play as a kid (didn't grow up with one).
