This game is pretty overrated.
>>
I mean, it might be impactful. I don't really think it has stood the test of time though, pun intended. It has very outdated design, decades of improvement and optimization will do that.

OoT can't be that best game ever because that's RE4
>>
>>747659854
I played the remake and I wasn't impressed. The story is such a mess in FF7 I could barely tell wtf was going on.
>>
>>747658634
Not just that game but the entire series. Such a terrible fantasy series that can't ever stay consistent.
>>
>>747658634
All video games are overrated.
>>
>>747660172
The story is a mess because you played the remake.
>>
>>747660519
mr domino isn't
>>
>>747660632
The original isn't great in that department either. I think that's when Nojima got started, and it shows. The haphazard translation quality of the time probably didn't help either.
>>
>>747660239
Why would you want consistency between titles
>>
>>747658634
Imo it's not overrated and I didn't grow up playing it so I got no nostalgia for it. I also don't have a Switch 2.
>>
>>747658634
Nintendo was never good

>>747660065
Cool cover, though it makes the chainsaw guy look like the main character.

>It has very outdated design
The designs are so outdated like 100% of modern games being released today are still using it. OOT to this date is still the blueprint for every modern 3D game.

this game is better than the vast majority of the games that came out after it, and i think that's just incredibly fucking annoying.
>>
It's been at the top of every list of "Greatest Video Games Ever Made" for the last 30 years, no shit it's overrated.
But it also might genuinely deserve that spot, because it's good.
>>
its a link to the past but in 3d. like starfox 64 is just starfox 1 retold in 3d.
>>
>>747666749
Why is TP so high when its one of the most railroaded of the Zelda games.
>>
>>747659682
This was a good joke anon
>>
>>747667339
WW is a worse example of railroading though, presenting a seeming open world but forcing you in straight lines to the next destination for half the game. Even SS probably feels a bit more inflexible, along with having you return back to previous areas for stints of objectives.

TP just does something that feels better in these cases, opening up like a funnel. When an area opens up, you can explore it but there's a place to go next ultimately. As each place opens up, they remain open. And isn't the opposite of this notion what is frowned upon? a new area opening and being able to go to and fro isn't railroading when you think about it. What happens when WW demands you go to the next area? straight line, no returning!
>>
A Link to the Past Links Awakening and Twilight Princess were better
>>
>>747658634
N64 only had three "good" games. Bomberman, Mario and Zelda. Meanwhile Psx was reigning supreme. Tendied had to overhype their only meaningful game and spout lies like OoT creating targeting
>>
>>747658634
wow you're like, the first person to ever say that! how daring!
>>
>>747667609
>TP just does something that feels better in these cases, opening up like a funnel. When an area opens up, you can explore it
Except you already do explore almost the entirety of each new area when they force you to collect all the bugs in the twilight segments in a straight line through them.
>>
>>747667287
But Starfox 1 was in 3D too. I get what you mean though.
>>
>>747658634
Zelda died when it went 3D
>>
ALttP is better. OoT plot is almost the same thing, you just need to rename dark world for future world and it becomed pretty much the same shit
>>
>>747668039
There's still other stuff to explore as a human though. I'm just saying if you're hung up on railroading, maybe the game where you can go back and forth at your leisure is less of a target.

>>
>>747658634

>>
>>747658634
If youre not going to say why I'm just going to call you a nigger retard
>>
>>747668183
>There's still other stuff to explore as a human though
Not really. Most of the stuff in early sgements is blocked off via the clawshot (which you don't get till the 3rd dungeon) the spinner (which you get halfway through the game) or the Rod of Dominion (which which doesn't work till 3/4ths into the game). You also can't collect Poes till after the 3rd dungeon also.

I'm not hung up on its railroading, I'm just hung up on why you put it so high when its so unlike everything else in the top and more like everything you have at the bottom.
>>
OP here, forgot to add I'm trans btw
>>
>>747658634
It's not exclusive to them but OoT fans are by far the ones who say shit like "you had to be there" and "it didn't age well" the most, it's pretty funny and really betrays what they actually think about the game. You'll never hear me saying Digimon World didn't age well, it's still easily one of my favorite games ever and just as captivating as it was when I was a kid, maybe even more.
>>
>>747659854
I've been saying that for more than 20 years now. It's only so popular because it was babby's first JRPG for a shitload of people, and they were right at the stage of edgy preteen/teen to find faggy bullshit like Cloud and Sephiroth cool at the time. In reality it's a hideous game and the whole plot and all the characters are fucking retarded. VI was a vastly superior game and the peak of its art form and the only reason it's not more popular is that there seem to be a lot more late '80s-early '90s babies than mid-'80s ones.
>>
>>747658634
Okay but seriously this is probably the most disgustingly looking video game cover of all time and all of you cocks are in denial
>>
>>747668730
OoT is not even my favorite game in the series, that would probably go to TP, and i'm not a die hard zelda fan but i don't understand how people say it didn't age well. i think the game still plays incredibly good and is a lot more interesting mechanically (intentionally and unintentionally) than a lot of the stuff we get today.

I didn't realize that novelty alone was enough to make a game good
>>
>>747668632
>you put it so high when its so unlike everything else in the top
Totk is peak non-linear open world, TP is peak linear traditional, and ALBW is peak fusion of the two conceptions. It's not that deep lol. I ranked them, so what I did was put the ones that were better just above the ones that were almost as good.

Comments like this always make me laugh, like you don't even understand the implications of what you said at all. You just said, in your own words, that younger generations will never understand what it's like for all the games they've been playing up to a point were worse than a game they are about to begin playing. Just let that sink in. You play a lot of crap, and then you played a good game, and young people will never understand going from crap to something good.

>z targeting
Already done several times over by games like Virtua-On, Mega Man Legends and Tomb Raider.
TR is an interesting example because aiming is tied to the same button as shooting, so you hold the shoot button down to lock on the target instead of clunkily using several buttons to achieve the same goal. TR2 and TR3 also had vehicles you could enter and leave, that series did a lot of stuff tendies tend to attribute to the wrong games. Same with the other features you listed, day and night cycles were commonplace especially in RPGs like the Ultima series.
>>
>>747658634
>I know I'll get backlash
You're not even significant enough to get backlash. You're just a random anon on a mongolian basket weaving forum. Only people with names get backlashes.
>>
>>747658634
OoT is older than me and I just played it within the last year. I'd say it holds up pretty well. I was expecting the gameplay to be clunky as hell but it's not much worse than modern games.

holy fuck, I'd never actually seen his video on it and it's shocking how much he mirrors what I've been saying for years. It's also fucking alarming seeing "15 years ago" and thinking "oh yeah this seems about right for the early '00s" and then realizing 2011 was 15 years ago.

>>747670508
Peak 2D (at least for the 16 bit era) vs some of the worst-looking 3D ever done, though, and FF7 was really just a 2D game with 3D character models and assets too. It was really just timing and marketing imo.
>>
Think about this.

A lot of these games are heralded as the greatest games of all time simply because they were the first in their genres.

Super Mario 64? The first 3D platformer.
Ocarina of Time? First 3D action adventure game.
FF7? First 3D RPG.

Granted they aren't "first" necessarily but they were the first 3D games of their genres that a large amount of people played. I really doubt Ocarina of Time Remake will capture that magic again. None of what were being given is new. We already experienced it. People who haven't even played the game have already experienced the Zelda formula in other games that refined it. You can argue BotW is different enough for this to be a fresh experience for people but I disagree. The small things like combat, inventory, even movement. None of this feels absolutely brand new like it did in 1998. At the end of the day journalists will give it 9s and 10s, people will be ecstatic over their memberberries and when the dust finally settles it will simple just be ranked as "another zelda game". Not amazing not bad not mid but a perfectly fine experience to consume and then get excited for next product.

>>747673962
bad bait
>>
>>747658634
Yeah nowadays, but 20 years ago it was the greatest game of all time.
>>
>>747658634
It was overrated in the 10 years after it came out, because everyone was copying it, but it's become underrated because the industry (including Zelda itself) is now dominated by open world slop. OoT's condensed handcrafted lock-and-key design is a rarity nowadays, pretty much only existing in metroidvanias.
I was hoping the remake could help repopularize a more focused design for Zelda but I have a feeling that, much like with Star Fox, it won't make much of a splash because it's just the same game with a new coat of paint. Even REmake made significant changes from RE1.
>>
>>747672925
>I rank the best ones low
for what purpose
>>
>>747666749
TotK being rated that high is insanity sorry.
Even ignoring its design flaws it is simply too much of a copypaste of BotW. It's not the first Zelda to reuse assets but it is the first to flat-out recycle 90% of its predecessor with minimal changes.
>>
>>747676316
Totk is the best Zelda has ever been mechanically. You just have nostalgia for older entries is all.

Wave race, Banjo-kazooie and Perfect dark shit on the ps1 librairy
>>
>>747676529
Botw is a better game than totk. Its properly balanced so you can't intentionally or unintentionally cheese your way out of puzzles

The exploration is meaningful because you can't teleport into the sky and fly down on craft etc

Totk has more content and is technically more optimised but botw is the better game and sales reflect that
>>
If you really want to bait you should have made a MM is overrated thread since /v/ pretends that one has no flaws. There have been OoT is overrated threads on here for years.

>>747676529
>copypastes the vast majority of BotW's assets (environments, enemies, weapons, armors, etc), making it feel stale right out of the gate
>doesn't fix any of BotW's core issues like shrines being half-assed, korok seeds being hyper-repetitive, dungeons being disappointing and too few, the obscene amount of bloat, etc etc
>no sense of meaningful permanent progression, even the wacky contraptions you craft will always disappear
>story is horrible, characters act dumb as fuck, most of BotW's continuity is ignored despite being in the exact same place, post-dungeon cutscenes are the same shit over and over, and so on
>sky islands and underground are wasted potential
>completely rejects the key item design every pre-BotW Zelda game had, in favor of flat do anything open worldism
>combat loses steam after you stock up on weapons (just like with BotW), lacks depth, is very repetitive, and poorly balanced
Do old Zeldas have plenty of problems? Sure. But they were satisfying condensed experiences. They actually felt like adventures. BotW/TotK feel like wasted potential and they're so fucking bloated.
I'm happy to replay classic Zelda games, can sit down and beat them in 2-3 days. I will never replay BotW or TotK.
