Could have at least given them the opportunity to offer their alternate plans I guess, or lack thereof in which case he'd have an easier time getting them to help

Why'd he killed Terenas? Always felt like a weird filler episode that almost got himself killed for no purpose. Nobody even mentions it or cares, and his puppetmasters immediately just send him on busywork after rescuing his ass.
Kinda weird how the Dreadlahwds never once questioned what the fuck the point of helping Nerd'zhul groom an avatar for himself was. Like what did this nigga really offer that they couldn't accomplish on their own?

Uther would had let Stratholme turn into a new army of ghouls to overrun Lordaeron even faster. Arthas made the best out of a terrible situation.
>>
>>747667268
He wasn't, he was in the right but had a mildly obnoxious attitude about it. Meanwhile, Uther was in the wrong and had an extremely fucking obnoxious attitude about it.
I am genuinely confused why Uthor is considered to be a heroic lore character when his whole characterization was him being an entitled boomer who was completely self-absorbed and stuck in his ways.
Arthas was unironically right to dismiss his ass too, he was acting insubordinate and treacherous.

Okay. So then why did Ner'zhul kill Terenas and almost get his future avatar that he groomed presumably since birth after convincing his captors to forge a sword and helmet designed for a six foot human male killed?
I mean it's a cool cutscene, but I don't really get the context.
>>
>>747669947
Stormwind was rebuilding in the time of WC3. There wouldn't have been much to cleanse. A lot of Stormwind's population as of vanilla WoW is refugees from Lordaeron because the orcs cleansed Stormwind in WC1.
>>
>>747668725
Uther had no plan, the only plan there was to make them break up as a group so they were weaker. The person at fault there isnt really Arthas, his fault came later. Jaina was also at fault, if they hadn't abandoned him there he may not have become the Lich King.

>>

he made the worst decision by not letting go and going with everyone else
>>
>>747670253
The appropriate decision would've been for Jaina to do it. But she's a woman so she wouldn't. She wasn't associated with holy divine gods, shes a mage and her job is literally killing people with magic. She should've told Uther and Arthas to leave. No one wants to see or know their prince or a member of the Silver Hand did something like that but Jaina was not important to Lordaeron in anywhere near the same way. She could've teleported in burned the village down with fire magic and teleported back out, Arthas wouldnt have had to live with it. Doing that made Arthas worse.

Dwarves and High Elves were helping Lordaeron in WC3, although iirc the main Dwarf forces were dealing with the Dark Iron at the time and King Anasterion decided not to dedicate forces so the only elves present were from Dalaran and the Kirin Tor. Gnomes didn't even exist until lore stuff in between WC3 and WoW I think. Draenei didn't exist until TBC. Theramore didn't exist until later on when Jaina went to Kalimdor which was after Arthas's fall. There were Gilneas forces present among Arthas and Jaina's troops as well as Stromgarde and Kul'tiras. In some campaign missions you can see the AI players labelled as such.

>>
>>747670694
He was insane after leaving Stratholme, getting the sword was just a formality. He was already dead inside by that point. He cared about them so running around smashing their heads in with a 10 ft tall 500 lb warhammer bigger than he is tall fucked him up. Jaina should've done it. Everyone there would've left and told everyone if Arthas did it. Jaina could've kept a few guys back to bar the gates or form a cordon around the town, warped in, started a bunch of fires, warped back out, and gone "wow theyre ALREADY monsters guys, the screams are from them turning into monsters. Keep em in. Trust me."
>>
>>747670872
did you miss the part where a dreadlord and an entire army of cultists and scourge was already inside the city, so you had to race them against the clock?

Jaina is an archmage, but even she cant solo all of Stratholme alone before being killed by Mal Ganis and the scourge
>>
>>747670815
Doesn't matter, his father is king. It doesnt mean if he hadn't taken the sword people would be talking about it for his entire reign. He should not have been there, plausible deniability is a thing people like Arthas need. Letting the mage do it is easy, if Jaina had been a man Male Jaina would've buckled up and done it.
>>
>>747668165
Jaina should have fixed him. I know, I know- he's responsible for getting corrupted. But I feel that he was let down by his Paladin brethren and his waifu. She could have stayed out of the purge herself, returned and then given Arthas a hug or held hands or something. I think if that happened he would've powered through Ner'zhul and Mal Ganis' keikkakus.
>>
Medivh's fault for being a schizo instead of pulling a slow burn like he did with Thrall and Malfurion.

He could have sent dreams to Terenas, Antonidas, Uther, Arthas and Jaina until they figured it out.

Instead he went schizobabble in front of the kang and didn't mention the Burning Legion once to get everyone's attention (note: Terenas and Lordaeron fought alongside Stormwind in WC2 where Stormwind won bigly but got rekt as a kangdom...and it was against the Burning Legion)

They know about Nerzhul and the Lich Kang as well, which Medivh didn't even bother.
>>
>>747670205
The Draenei were too busy being trapped on Draenor getting hunted by Fel Orcs anon; even if they were technically in contact with the Alliance via the sons of Lothar.
The Gnomes had irradiated themselves trying to solve a caveman infestation. Theramore is all about botes so fighting cults and plagues weren't their expertise which is why they sent Jaina, the one person who would know a thing or two about those things instead of attempting to commit a bunch of sailors who weren't seen as necessary, Dalaran was doing its best to study the plague with its resources and as proactive as Lordaeron, Stromgarde and Stormwind were rebuilding, Alterac probably 'wanted' the plague to happen because fuck the Alliance (and it was dealing with the aftermath of Thrall's little uprising), and Gilneas...
Yeah, I'll give you that Gilneas were being a bunch of obtuse pricks for the sake of it.
But the dwarves formed the backbone of Lordaeron's artillery AND air corps so you can't say they didn't give it their all.
>>
>>747670987

The buildings were made of wood lmao what're the undead gonna do, form a fire fighting division? Just toss fireballs in every direction, she can fucking teleport man. Fine send a few very loyal guys in with her to back her up. Long and short of it is they had the perfect candidate for the job there, Arthas should have been made to stay back. His mental agony over it should've been obvious he was losing it man, even the king needs some damn help doing the dirty shit. Theres no better candidate than Jaina Arthas and Uther were paladins. How much more can they do about purging a city vs a mage with fire magic? Next youll tell me it was raining so its impossible for buildings to burn down lol.

She was right there, perfect candidate. Jaina is retardedly powerful she could burn a city down in a day.

Better than their Prince, yes. Better than a Paladin doing it, yes. Better for a more independent "third party" to take care of it. Better for Arthas as well. You can send her in on foot with an entire army then, the game even demonstrated how brutal it is to make Arthas do it by smashing their skulls in one at a time. It forces you to, they aren't tagged as hostile, you have to force him to attack them and he just has a big ass hammer. One of his skills HEALS people, and hes the one being forced to do that shit. Because it is antithetical to his very purpose.
>>
>>747667268
He wasn't up until he grabbed Frostmourne and got soul fucked. He was completely justified in Stratholme and part of the reason he made more dumb decisions is the Paladins failed him and Jaina's was a typical foid. Uther got exactly what he deserved.

Incorrect. They deduce in Brill (Chapter 3) that the infected grain is the source of the plague, and trace it back to Andorhal (Chapter 4) despite theorizing that "there's no telling how many villages might be affected."
In Andorhal, they learn that the grain has already been distributed across the kingdom, even though they already knew that because there's a shipment in Brill.
Canonically, it takes them until "the next day" to reach Andorhal from Brill where they waste time learning largely redundant information.
After that, it takes another day for them to reach Hearthglen, whereupon Arthas finally gets the bright idea to send his bimbo to inform somebody else about the knowledge they had approximately 48 hours ago, in this case, they inform Uther, except she doesn't actually tell him anything other than Arthas needs backup.
The next day, Arthas and Jaina arrive at Stratholme and presumably a good while before Uther catches up to them. Again, they neglect to inform anybody in Stratholme about the plague, and instead just linger on the outskirts for Uther.
So basically, they had 48 hours give or take from when they learned of how the plague spread, to when they finally decided to tell somebody.
What you're thinking of is when Arthas learns that the plague is correlated with the scourge, which occurs at Hearthglen, but the dynamic duo learn about the plague and its connection with the grain much earlier and neglect to act. Because it's just a fucking plague right, lmao? Not like its been fucking up the countryside so much the king has ordered paladins and sorcerers to investigate it.
Fuck, I hate this game so much. Chris Metzen is a talentless douchebag.

>I really don't understand why Arthas (Ner'zhul) didn't legitimately succeed Terenas and dismantle Lordaeron from the inside
Arthas was corrupted but still somewhat himself as a death knight, it was only when he was starting to break free from Ner'zhuls control, when he was guided to the frozen throne in order to merge with Ner'zhuls soul so Zer'zhul could fully take control of his soul and body.
The reason Arthas is intombed in ice, is because Arthas' soul resisted and sealed them to protect the world from the undead. When wotlk happens, Arthas pretty much lost the battle which is why the Lich King awakens.

The story acts like what he did was horrific but 100% of the civilians become ghouls.

If Blizzard was smart most, if not all, of the houses would empty out to just civilian units or peasants with only a couple turning.

That would show the intended overzealous actions of Arthas instead of him being decisive and saving the rest of Lorderon from a city's worth of undead.
>>
let’s say uther, arthas, jania, the captain and muradin all make it to northrend. What now? They don’t have enough forces to get though to kill mal’ganis which leads back to the frostmorne delemia again.
>>
>>747674053
Jaina mass teleports them out, they regroup and gather a stronger force and plan out a better invasion

Weird that the Alliance does not have an outpost out west and Jaina had to collect a bunch of random humans to settle there.

Do they mention what Arthas was doing between WC3 and FT? I only played the expansion once, 15 years ago.
All I remember is that Arthas' campaign was fucking gay. The whole time he's just trying to get to his giant ice dildo and then he meets the spider-verse. I guess at the beginning he's "king" but he's acting as king for the scourge people.
I meant they should've had a subplot about him acting as king of the humans and subverting them from the inside, instead of just being a school shooter.
In all honesty I have no fucking idea why Arthas is chosen by Ner'zhul at all if part of the plan wasn't to use his identity. Seems like he could've saved a lot of time by just seducing one of those mercenaries or literally anybody in Lordaeron.

His decision was logically sound, but the spiritual/emotional toil he put on himself made him vulnerable to obsession and manipulation, which led to both his fall and the collapse of his kingdom.
That said a large contributing factor to his decline was that he was forced to shoulder that burden alone. Jaina and Uther abandoned him, despite having no solution other than allowing the town to become undead (damning the residents). They dodged responsibility and put everything on Arthas, and that's why he snapped.

The nucampaign actually addresses this by showing that he was able to mount his teardown of Lordaeron by colluding with the Cult of the Damned who at that point already consisted of multiple baronies. It wasn't just the ghosts and goblins he brought from Northrend.

fiction often shows what the writer wishes the world was like.
the postcolonial west is obsessed with matriarchy because liberalism's myth of progress means the less liberal past *must* be inferior to the more liberal present.
>men bad because they ruled in the past but didn't achieve liberal utopia. maybe women will achieve liberal utopia once they have the same freedoms as men
(they won't)
>whites bad because they ruled in the past but didn't achieve liberal utopia. maybe nonwhites will achieve liberal utopia once they have freedom from discrimination
(they won't)

Seems like a fun and fast way to get yourself ganked. What was the next step of Arthas' master plan? Uh, nothing, because he didn't have one. Ner'zhul did, I suppose, in the form of Tichondrius teleporting his ass out of there, but that's it. All that's described is that at some ambiguous point in time, the undead rolled into the capital and just took it, which sort of begs the question... why didn't Arthas just roll in with them? The fuck was the point of the subterfuge and exposure? Again, it's a cool cutscene, but it's total nonsense.

He was. He also had Chaos Damage up to that point until the Undead Campaign happened properly.
Also there were no fixes.
Arthas killing Terenas plunged Lordaeron into chaos resulting in the Undead to easily pick up villages and grow in strength. We simply are left to our imagination how it happened and Arthas disappears after he kills his father.
The DLC simply expands on it and we see Arthas casually slaughtering his way out one-hit-killing anyone trying to fight him.
And in the TFT Undead Campaign in the 2nd mission, Arthas takes on a swarm of Ghouls with ease.
He IS a one-man army himself and proves that in the final mission once he can level up again.

It doesn't matter. I worded it wrong. But I'm not talking about Stratholme here. U mean him scourging his kingdom post frostmourne. Him being utilitarian here completely broke his mine and resulted in him murdering his kingdom. Therefore yes, it was a disaster of a choice.

He is an Elric of Melnibone clone, to this day no one got the Moorcockian "woe is me" whining right, so the clones end up controversial or edgy teen bait.

Anon, I get you're eager to spread the good word, but maybe make sure you have an actual example to use here so you don't look like a fucking moron who said a bunch of shit about something that didn't even happen.

after a massive tragedy in his kingdom, he fucked off to play batman instead of doing his fucking job and helping with reconstruction.
The Purge was 100% correct and Uther and Jaina were both terrible people for how they reacted to it, but Arthas lost his chance to be right the moment he bailed on Lordaeron to go chasing some demon ass in the snow.

I liked her. she was the only presenter I could tolerate in fact.

How convenient that you never actually find any pre-zombified humans during the whole fall of Lordaeron campaign, you either find already zombified people or human corpses about to revive as zombies.

Sylvanas cute

Arthas should have raped her first before turning her into undead, it's weird to see a Windrunner not carrying a half-human, half-elf baby

Would WC3 and WoW have been better if Arthas was the tale of the fall of a blonde warrior princess? And Jaina was a dude, and they bumped uglies consensually while holding hands even after Femthas became undead?

Disbanding the Paladins because of petty ego was wrong. Ditching his Kingdom when they needed him most to chase a literal vampire to Northrend was wrong. Getting rage baited into picking up a cursed sword and betraying your own men was wrong. Destroying your own Kingdom because you got rage baited into picking up a cursed sword was wrong. Being a fuckwit who got ragebaited into fusing with a dead Orc was wrong.

Won't happen because Sylvanas is still voiced by a white woman and they've basically replaced her with her sister Allera, who's voiced by a black woman.

Ummm, actually that was retconned, chuddie.
Remember how in the end of TFT, they've come one? Nope. Never happened. In WOTLK, he's just Arthas, Ner'zhul has been banished from the body. Please ignore the fact that he sounds and acts nothing like Arthas.
Ner'zhul's fate was then to become this, and to have all his plans revealed to be actually the Jailer's machinations.

Its funny that Arthas is just a more well done version of Anakin Skywalker in WC3, yes his downfall is his fault but hes a lot more understandable.

Reminder that to this day in canonical lore, over 20 years later, there is no cure to Undeath. Uther's "surely there's another way, lets quarantine for now and think about it!" still has no merit even retroactively with 20 years worth of hindsight.

Stratholme was the 2nd most populated city in Lordaeron, after the capital. It would have been impossible to quarantine it with the small force that they had, not to mention the Dreadlord actively patrolling the streets and teleporting the Undead out.

You're basing that on nothing. Regardless, the solution to the problem would be to just go in and kill Malganis and then quarantine everyone.
