I HATE VOLUMETRIC LIGHTINGI HATE FOGI HATE MISTJUST LET ME SEE THINGS
You vill have the anti soul gas and you vill like it
I'll let you see some fog and smog particles
>>747668635>PS2 can't see shit because of 480p shitty resolution>PS5can't see shit because of 480p shitty resolution but now upscaled to 900p blurry mess and with a thick fog everywhere poetic
>>747668635what them words mean?
Just turn it off. What are you, a consolecuck?
Where is the options menu in real life?
>>747669514I'm playing The Sinking city rn and the whole game looks like this
>>747668635MMMMMMMMMNO
What is it about volumetric fog that triggers full blown chud melties nowadays? Did these shut in virgins who leave their houses twice a year, if that, never see fog in real life before and are scared of them in video games?
>>747670340Are you a brit or some jungle nog, fog is rare where I live and pretty much only during certain seasons
>>747670457Okay? That is supposed to explain your melty every time you see fog in video games?
>>747668635i’d stomach all that shit, if i didnt HAVE TO enable fucking upscaling in modern games just to reach a stable 60fps. for fuck sake even on Quality it feels like i’m not wearing glasses. (i am nearsighted as fuck irl, its like overdone DOF but for real life)
seriously is this fucking game supposed to look like this all the time or is something broken
>>747671032>oh no, is that...FOOOG? >nooo I'm going insane, NIGGERMAN SAVE ME
>>747669670Do you like it?
>>747671517no
>>747668635
>>747668635You can thank normalfaggots for that.
>>747671032>>747671635I can't remember it looking that bad with the mist, you also have some weird hazy shit going on that reminds me of UE5. Did you try fiddling with the graphic settings? Or is this sinking city 2 because I havent played that garbage
KCD2 started doing this like halfway through the story (right after you save the Jews in Kuttenberg) and I legitimately thought the game was glitching and applying the smoke from that mission (because the neighborhood is burning) to the entire map. Turns out it was deliberate, for some reason.
>>747674556>>747671635>>747671517this shit reminds me of the bloom everywhere the 2000s but it's somehow worse
>>747674668It's really annoying, because there's a time and place where having a lot of fog/mist would be perfectly fine, but they're just slapping it on *everything*.
>>747668635Nah.>applies forced TAA
>>747668635But when you see things you make fun of our graphics. So no graphics for you.Enjoy your fog, fag.
>>747674441It's The Sinking city 1. It's particularly bad in the screenshots but even when its better there's still a haze over everything, even when you're inside a fucking building
>>747674556>save jews>world goes to shitIt's their artistic vision.
>>747668635Nah. I like fog and volumetric lights and motion blur. It's good stuff and makes the world feel bigger and faster. It makes what is there better. There is less to see without it.
>>747668635Just turn it off in the INI file.
>>747670340According to new vidya interiors are where you find the most fog, shut-ins should find its absence the most unusual of anyone.
>>747675749
>>747670580>fog irl: extremely rare and only in certain climates>fog in games: every single fucking game has it at all timesAre you going to pretend to not understand again?
>>747668635>BLOOM = ON>CHROMATIC NIGGERATION = ON>FILM GRAIN = ON>DLSS = PERFORMANCE 480P TO 1440P>MOTION BLUR = ON>SHADER COMPILATION = SKIPPEDYep, it's gaming time.
>>747677332my favorite fog in modern games is the one inside buildings
>>747670340It's overused. Tons of games look like someone placed a bunch of fog machines everywhere, it looks ridiculous.
>>747670340>>747670580>OI M8 WOTS THE PROBLEM IT LOOKS PERFECTLY FOINE TO ME ITS JUST REAL LOIFE GOOD OL FOG
Shut the fuck up, toxo cuck
>>747677979what is a toxo cuck
>>747670580In the past, games would typically have fog where it was appropriate. Like Witcher 3 would have it in the mountains of Skellige, or in the ocean surrounding a place literally called "The Isle of Mists". If that game was made today, every square inch of every map would be foggy. The fucking Novigrad brothels would somehow have fog in the bedrooms.
I like fog
>>747668635The reason we have so much fog is because all the devs live in big cities that are polluted by smog so there's some "fog" at all times of the day
>>747668635try playing gta San Andreas without the fog lol
>>747668635volumetric particle effects make my 3060 go brrrrr at 1440p, me no like
>>747670340I like visual clarity, faggot. If you want realism, go die in a war.
>>747668635turns out graphics arent as advanced as big studios claim. to render the entire world at the fideltity they advertise is impossible without either downgrading the graphics or hiding 99% of it with fog and shit. imagine if games still had the same graphics as ten years ago but were developed for modern hardware. you could have giant open world sandboxes with tons of detail and zero fog.
>>747678268Looks good. Should I get it for PS5pro?>YesBut what if it's hard. Like required you to aim.>SneedWell then I guess I'll get Pragmata instead.
>>747679917I'm playing it on base PS5 and it's been very smooth so far so it would probably be amazing on pro. It can be hard at times if the enemies are far away because they have aimbot and can see through fog and foliage. But you can abuse quicksaves
>>747669728Third row looks much worse with no haze. It makes the map look much larger in scale and separates it into clear sections based on elevation.
>>747678084His buzzword that he uses when he feels lonely and wants to project (almost every day)
>>747670340It's a performative way to hate new games from zoomers who never played old games and don't understand why games have fog.Fog is there to reduce draw distance to save processing power because you idiots only play on shitty consoles that aren't powerful enough to display the AAA graphics you demand without relying on things like fog. This has been a thing since the dawn of 3D videogames.
>>747681835I mean this is the real problem with volumetric fog.It used to be the realm of level design eg. the stories of crash bandicoot's PS1 development where they were placing triangles in just the right place to occlude background scenery just enough to get them within render budget. Now they don't seem to bother with that level of attention to detail.
>>747681835There's a difference between fog for draw distance reasons and fog because faggots think it looks good
>>747674556>save hook nosed kikes>nefarious gas rise up like one of the plagues that struck the pharaoh and his people LOL CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP
>>747681835The problem is that this fog isn't a way to reduce draw distance and increase performance, it has way too many calculations for that. How light hits the fog needs to be calculated, sometimes the fog is dynamic, how its physics interact with collidables needs to be calculated, and there's never just just one layer of haze. This isn't even getting into games like Helldivers, where higher difficulty = more fog because poor performance and not being able to see shit makes the game harder. Removing it usually improves performance and draw distance.
>>747682609That worked because it was PS1 and the 3D environment was extremely barebones and simple to the point that they could get away with that kind of trick. There's no way to use objects or angles to>occlude background scenerywhen people demand that every game be open world.>>747682806In 99% of cases it's there for performance reasons and I guarantee you can't identify the 1% where it's not. Developers aren't putting fog in games because of whatever retarded culture war shit you're imagining; they're not sitting there like>ok now let's crank up the fog so we can make the tradcath zoomer larpers on /v/ angryYou idiots want nothing but huge open world games with endlessly improving graphics but you refuse to pay for hardware capable of rendering it.My video card alone cost more than your entire console but you still think your $500 console should be capable of the same performance without adjustments like lower framerates or extra fog. That's not how it works.
I never got the complaints, if anything in most games you can see unrealistically far. IRL everything more than 10m away quickly becomes a blurry shape
>>747668635What about water reflections?
>>747683613>and that was the day anon realized he needed to start wearing glasses
>>747683568>someone doesn't agree with me so he must be a "tradcath zoomer larper consolepleb"Fog these days is added because the devs think it looks good, not because of performance
>>747683928You can repeat that as much as you like but it won't make it true.
>>747684075You can deny the truth all you want but that won't make you correct
>>747668635Well it's a good thing you play on PC and can turn all those off, unless it's UE5 with baked in fog.
>>747670340>b-but fog is realisticRealism can go fuck itself if it makes games worseTo be fair, volumetric fog could be used well to make games feel bigger and atmospheric, but a good tool in the hands of the incompetent will look like a bad tool and game devs are unquestionably, visibly incompetent with fog. Please stop being a bootlicker
>>747681835Fog has not been used to reduce draw distance in years, silly left-winger
>>747684132Don't know what to tell you buddy, fog has always been used to reduce draw distance for performance reasons. What you're doing is like trying to argue that devs make their games run at a lower framerate as a design choice and not because your shit console hardware demands it.But if you're so confident that this is such a widespread problem in modern games then I'm sure you'd find it easy to name 5 recent games that used fog exclusively >>747683928>because the devs think it looks goodYou can do that, right? You're not just full of shit?
>>747684835>posts picture proving me right>thinks that video game graphics are a political issueyikes
>>747685041>game is visibly not using fog to hide draw distance>see? I'm right about games using fog to hide draw distanceIf you say so.
>>747668635I like a good mist, but it really needs to be confined to one level in the game or be incredibly central to the aesthetic of the game. Streets in victorian london should have fog, but please don't add that shit to a generic forest or desert.
Anti-soul fog feels like the buccal fat removal of vidya graphics, no one likes it, everyone thinks it looks like shit, yet someone keeps duping the people responsible for visuals into doing it over and over again, like it's some inside trend that is its own purpose rather than something meant to appeal to the general audienceThe WoW forever presentation had a 10 minute segment on fog, pic related cracked me the fuck up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsg2HmvLT-A
>>747683568>when people demand that every game be open world.I mean disabling the fog doesn't actually make the game run any worse, its just that they use the fog to hide the aggressive LOD. They could either get good at LOD design OR more realistically, its probably actually a better use case for DLSS shit than the way they use it to show close up faces looking slightly better.
Crimson Kino has purely aesthetic fog dependant on ambiance
>>747686381
>>747668635get in
>>747685402Well your little buddy ran away as soon as I asked him to back up his nonsense so I'm gonna direct you to>>747684926>But if you're so confident that this is such a widespread problem in modern games then I'm sure you'd find it easy to name 5 recent games that used fog exclusively
Now this is SOUL fog
>>747686494>ran awayI just saw it was pointless trying to teach a retard anything and I'm not wasting time testing games with fog on or off
>>747674556kcd2 volumetric fog is disgustingalways use the mod that removes it
>>747686494Monster Hunter WorldDark Souls 3Hogwarts LegacyWarframeThe OoT remake as previously shown
>>747686494If fog is not an artistic choice, why do enclosed places like buildings and caves have fog? There's no performance to be gained there with fog
>>747668635I LOVE VOLUMETRIC LIGHTINGI LOVE FOGI LOVE MISTJUST LET ME "EXPERIENCE" THINGS
What visual effects DO you like?
>>747686836kcd2 is disgusting
>>747687445Caves have fog and mist. I don't think I've ever seen fog in a building in a video game but it would be dumb
>>747687594scanlines
>>747687594Lens flare
>>747686704I accept your concession.>>747687143Every example you listed is performance fog buddy.>The OoT remake as previously shownWe'll take that as a nice example since we have a pic right here >>747684835where you can clearly see the fog being used to obscure lower detail renders or cover the environment. I don't think you understand how this works. If the fog cover even 10% of the screen, that's 10% less processing power needed.
>>747687625>I don't think I've ever seen fog in a building in a video game>>747686836
>>747687594God rays
>>747668635worst part is you cant just disable it cuz the entire game's artistic vision is built around it like in lies of p so you get akward culling and scenery you're not supposed to see
I haven't the FOGgiest idea of what you're talking about!
>>747687845Maybe she burned the food real bad
>>747687701>performanceSo you know it's being used to obscure lower detail models, a deliberate application of the fog for VISUALS, but you insist it's for performance reasons, despite the fog negatively affecting performance. They're still rendering objects in the distance, you know. The fog is never thick enough to hide anything unlike old games.
>>747668635I understand its use for very long distances such as looking from one side of the map to the other but I don't know what the fuck is up with it getting foggy across a mild field. I live across a field and I don't see any fucking fog over there.Do the devs just have extremely poor eyesight and are trying to subject everyone else to their reality
The thing is that VOLUMETRIC fog can be used to ENHANCE the sense of VOLUME and space by wrapping it around things to contrast their place in space, but when you blanket apply it across everything it's genuinely no different than just playing with cataracts, every pixel is just uniformly made more washed out
Fog is just like motion blur, retarded devs think they are required to have both in their games
>>747688718>he's resorting to semantic games over shit he doesn't understandembarrassingsomething obscured by fog doesn't need to be rendered and saves processing powerinsanely retarded to be trying to make this into some political culture war nonsense>the leftists put fog in our games because they hate freedom!!!clueless>despite the fog negatively affecting performance.you're welcome to provide some evidence for this claim but i don't think you will
>>747689716>something obscured by fog doesn't need to be rendered and saves processing powerExcept nothing is so obscured by the fog that it can't be seen, you big dummy. God, you leftists really try your hardest to misrepresent things huh?The objects are still being rendered. Lower detail models, sure, but the only reason to use fog to obscure the lower detail models is visual, the fog is not being used to improve performance, the lower detail models are.The performance loss of rendering the fog is obviously less than using high detail models, negligible depending on the specs of the machine rendering it, but there's still a hit.>you're welcome to provide some evidence for this claimIf you mod any game to remove volumetric fog entirely you get a performance boost. MH World is a big example.
>>747687516Eat my shit encrusted ass.
>>747690298>leftistslmaooo why are you so convinced that fog in video games is a political issueyou've got some severe brain rot kidplease find some hobby that doesn't involve politics and video games okmaybe something that makes you spend some time outside
>>747687848these are always kino
>>747691369I'm calling you a leftist because you're either retarded or arguing in bad faith, not because video game graphics have anything to do with politics.
>>747691369because moot was retarded and decided to remake the politics board despite it obviously being a bad idea
>>747691901ah yes because only "leftists" would "argue in bad faith"seriously go outsidewe still have some nice warm days leftget some sunlighttry to spend an hour or two not thinking about politicsi believe in you>>747692371if you had been here for any of the multiple times politics boards were deleted then you'd understand why they were brought back
This is why I just stopped playing new games altogether. I don't even pay attention to that shit anymore.Although I guess by this point "new" is like 10 years old.
>>747686461>chromatic aberration
>>747692514>nooo i cant ban all of these people i guess my only choice is to remake the board and attract even more of them whoops they took over the website lol fuck this maybe that jap wants to buy this shithole from me
