At least pick Morhal or something.
>>
>>747682853

>>
>>747682864
Morthal is boring but it just should be a big town, not a city. Winterhold being smaller than Morthal is a disgrace.
Also am I the only one who confuses the city names sometimes because of them being similar?
Windehlm - Winterhold
Morthal - Markath
>>
>>747682229
Oh you mean the game where also there's an apocalyptic world ending return of dragons into the world but also the dragons literally do nothing but fly around in random fields the whole game and also you kill your first dragon at level 1 right off the bat? Yeah, that's more or less what I would expect a "city" to look like in a game with that caliber of roleplaying
>>
>>747683060
Also said dragons are supposed to be intelligent but only 3 actually talk and the rest act like dumb animals.
>>
>>747682229
what do they eat?

What's their tax policy?
>>

Probably dragon meat, given how easy dragons are to kill
>>
>>747682229
actually it's the remains of the city, the rest fell in the sea
you'd know that if you'd played the game
but yea, cities in skyrim are tiny by modern standards
>>
>>747684218
>the rest fell in the sea
no ruins what-so-ever around
YOU would know that if you played the game nigger
>>
>>747682853
The city used to be on the same shelf that the college rests on the last pillar of. It was a stone city in the same style of the college and was located around it. The thatched roof town was built outside the city proper to house refugees after the Collapse including the jarl. It stagnated and people moved away over the years, explaining the ruined houses
>>
>>747682229
The rest is the city fell into the sea, but even lore wise are nords just niggers with snow living in straw. Tech wise you gotta remember they had to work with 512mb VRAM consoles, best course of action would be cities as their own cells like Markarth, Whiterun or Windhelm for example but I guess that would take away from the more important places like the college of Winterhold in this case.
>>
>>747684701
>even lore wise are nords just niggers with snow living in straw
Solitude is the only city that looks like an actual city so I guess yeah, building with stone is forgotten tech for nords

So I've never used a horse, can anyone explain how do horses work in Skyrim? I know that you can buy them, ride them and fast travel with them, but:
1. What if your horse dies for whatever reason? You need to buy a new one? Couple times I've stolen a random horse and it died under me when I jumped off like 4 meter ledge.
2. Can you summon your horse somehow, for example if you leave it nearby? Or will it just fuck off?
3. Does the horse stay with you if you (fast) travel on your own? Like if I teleport to a city will I find it in stables or again do I need to buy a new one?
>>
>>747684929
That's a nice strawman. You must be proud of it.
>>
>>747684218
If the rest of the city fell into the sea, then why isn't it down there in the sea?
>>
>>747684929
Pelegiad, a small town built around a fort, is larger than major Skyrim cities
>>
>>747682706
If they tried to make properly sized cities with the level of interactability they're known for the engine would implode
You will never see proper cities in a TES game until Bethesda get better technology or radically change their design philosophy

The concept of a sense of scale does not exist to the Bethesdrone. From their autistic point of view, every single building needs to be fully explorable with its own unique quest inside of it or it's not a real city. One can only imagine, if they ever head into an actual city, what they act like.

ai in games comes whether we want it or not, with studios desperately looking for savings and human beings always being the most expensive thing they will keep on trying and eventually it will be just okay enough for people not to care, like many people can listen to hour of music and not even notice it's AI generated

your horse can die and you'll have to buy a new one. this can happen without you seeing it
bought horses will stay exactly where you leave them, unless they aggro on something and chase after it. there is no 'summon horse' button but when you fast travel, the horse will always appear beside you. you will know your horse is dead when you fast travel and it doesnt appear.

Has there ever been an impressive video game city that the entire video game does not take place in?
Feels like making a real life city just makes the game part of the game way more annoying.

Steam mods were a mistake. They should have taken a page out of Blizzard’s playbook and let the modders create stuff independently and then once it becomes popular send them a cease and desist letter, steal the content and then repackage it into a $30 DLC.

you're describing garbage devs making an inferior product to cut costs and cattle humans, probably projecting yourself unto them. it will be inevitable for some devs that suffer from competency crisis, but good devs and games that don't use slop will still be made

That's why Shadowmere you get from Dark Brotherhood questline is so valuable, because it has so quick health regen it's aomost unkillable in combat, so unless you ride it down a mountain it's almost guaranteed to not die from bullshit.

The excuse is that NPCs have routines. Well, then, create some houses with NPCs who don't have routines. They just wander around town randomly every now and then, and then go back home and sit in a chair.

while we're at it
is oblivion still playable? I only ever played it at release and had good memories so I'm thinking picking it up again. also should I bother with the remake?
>>
>>747682852
most of these "overhauled city" mods just fill them to the brim with assets like trees and such but its still the same 10 or so NPCs living in the same 8 or so houses.
Winterhold was one of the overhauls I liked though since it actually turns it into a big ruined city, reminded me of the Necropolis from Fable TLC.

Option A
>morrowind
Option A

Option B with a different aesthetic

Option A

There comes a point where more does not mean better. Game designers know this. It's why, at most, they'll give a few buildings with content and then the rest just can't be entered because they know people will complain that most of them are just empty or don't have anything.
>>
>>747691296
There's Option C which is having one really big, fleshed out city, but it's the only real city in the game which is how Enderal did it.
I personally much prefer how Bethesda did it in Skyrim though, I don't have an issue understanding the cities as an abstraction of their real intended size and they're pretty immersive as is.
>>
>>747691954
Okay I should add though Winterhold is definitely pushing it, having like 4 buildings is way too far for a hold capital when it's been rebuilt for 50 years.
>>
>>747691296
In the end real cities arent fun to play in, when the game involves going outside and adventuring the cities are way lower on the priority list. The point of video game cities is for quest givers and to restock stuff on the shop, there's no reason to do anything else in a city unless you really love sewer levels then you gotta ask why are there monsters in a populated city
>>
>>747691296
