New MMOs consistently break records. What would it take to make one stick?
>>747683225just make ultima online in full 3d with a good combat system.
How did the French manage to make the best MMORPG of 2026?
>Amazon has stopped making MMOs.Why? Surely Lost Ark and New World made boatloads of money.
>>747684993>snail frenchimps>making anything goodKek!Wakfu is an objectively shitty game!
>>747684993>Turn-based.>Best MMO.Do you not understand the drive for 3D roleplaying?
>>747685279The pic is not Wakfu
>>747685438>It's NOT Wakfu! :(>It's an even worse game!Kek!
>>747684993The Open PVP immediately turned me off this shit.
>>747686321there is no "open pvp" though?
>>747685142I'm not sure they understand how easy it is to have a small budget. It doesn't need to take hundreds of millions of dollars and 5 years to make an MMO. A few developers is enough to make a few mobs and a zone per day and have an MMO of content in a month or two. You can make trees choppable in a day.
>>747683225Good gameplay
>>747686427There was at some point. No idea what point it was exactly, the game has existed in like 20 different formats. But there I was hunting sheep, farming wool to make my cute little Lv11 Gobball set for +2 AP, when all of a sudden some high level guy comes over and ties me up in PVP for like 30 minutes.
>>747686635New World has action gameplay and has failed to keep an audience. The dungeon gameplay is really good too. The PvP is serviceable if you have good equipment (now that they've removed scaling).
>>747686941fake n gayyou can just leave fights too
all my eggs are in the riot mmo basket
Any good news on GW3?
>>747683225Real content. Not a handful of dungeons and maybe a raid or two every six months.MMOs keep releasing in the modern era without even scratching vanilla wow in content. Then they try to compete with fucking modern wow and other mmos that have been around for decades. Why even bother making a game like this if you don't have a shitload of stuff to do and places to go right out of the gate? Just make a coop rpg or something.
Sega please make a new PSO that isnt shit
>>747683225It has to be fun to play, Like, even if your dogshit at the game, moving around and doing game stuff has to be so intrinsically fun you are willing to play it anyway.
>No leveling.>No bind-on.>Material repairs durability.
>>747683225Community engagement. The reason we all remember Ragnarok Online and Everquest and OSRS is because it forced people to actually socialize. I've actually been planning an MMO in my head for a while. I'll never actually make one so I give out the ideas for free. The heart of it should be a crafting system. Not everyone likes crafting. That's actually the most important part, because it creates the demand for crafters. High end crafts should also be unique, time consuming, and require in person communication. But there should also be mass production crafts, consumables, base materials and the like. Raid drops should be able to be broken down into rare materials if you don't like them, but they should also be viable to just use on their own (with some enhancements). The defunct MMO Hero's Journey was going to have something like this, equipment that grows with you, rare gear that starts off powerful, but with the ability to make even a common storebought piece endgame viable with enough investment. There should be a strong emphasis on open world activities. Ragnarok Online and FFXI did this fantastically, with rare drops and NM hunting, and it seems to be a lost art now. FFXIV attempted something like this with FATEs but the heavily containerized nature of them makes them suck. Endgame content should come in packs. There should be several raids each tier. A friend of mine had the idea to make them like a mega man rotation, where each raid is weak to another raid's drops, so you can pick any starting point.Combat needs to be engaging. FFXIV is a great example of doing everything wrong. Bosses should not have static predictable fight scripts, and difficulty should be balanced such that you can make many mistakes but it's extremely difficult to avoid making mistakes (unlike FFXIV's expectation that you make zero mistakes as a baseline and then you also have to meet the DPS check). Dying and recovering from death should be part of the skill expression.
