I mean the plot playing out like Apocalypto (which btw was basically about the aztecs despite them being called mayans in the film), being part of the tribes that join up with Cortez to take down the empire only to then be stabbed in the back by Cortez after him taking Tenochtitaln and taking over is the most obvious route for them to go here.
