How are retro games played in Japan? I know emulation isn't much of a thing there.

They're better at preserving their old games, but what about CRT TVs? Maybe the dedicated retro gamer has one, but I'm wondering what the average normie in Japan does if they want to play retro games.

while emulation and flashcarts are supposed to be mega illegal, they like those chink handhelds
otherwise most retro setups look like a small crt that was kept around and never thrown out

using upscalers with hdmi output isn't super common

Interesting. How small?

not like the tiny ass ones, but the lighter weight 10-16 inch ones you can put on dinky wheeled carts and not worry about them collapsing

You can go to a bookoff or any local game store and find retro games at reasonable prices. Like if I wanted to I could go and buy a Super Famicom in the box, controller, and a bunch of games for less than 10,000 yen

Oh i forgot to say there's pretty much any type of adapter you need at the stores too but it's not that hard to find old TVs either

there are stores you can go and buy for relatively cheap

Japan is one of the most nostalgia-fueled countries on the planet mate.
