The GBA and DS eras in particular were a sweet spot where devs could churn out games really quickly but the games were often very high quality. It's really sad that with Switch and Switch 2 the dev overheads have become too onerous again for anyone to be able to produce high quality stuff quickly the same way

Absolutely YES.Sony abandoned the Vita and the portable market fearing that mobile phone games would overtake that segment but Nintendo made a massive bet (they were losing big with the wii u) and they made an hybrid. Not only phone games stopped being a threat (gacha slop isn't seen as actual games), but even in the late life of the switch portable pc handhelds start appearing but they were competing with themselves, never with nintendo, they we're left alone with the portable gaming market and they continue to do so.

It's just the next thing after the 3DS, but with a clever gimmick. If it wasn't primarily marketed as a handheld the Switch Lite wouldn't exist. Hybrid's all just marketing speak to not piss off the Wii U owners they already burned and to make home console owners not dismiss it.
