>"Hello? Cyberpunk writer? I would like to order a city NOT based off Los Angeles or Tokyo, please HAHAHAHA"
One space station city coming right up sir
Surely Beijing or another Chinese city has to be the basis for future cyberpunk games. Which is the one with all the LED buildings?
>>747827282It's impossible, I'm afraid.
>>747827282Congrats, you get your wish. Project Orion is set in not-Chicago.
>>747827282London then.
>>747827282"I want a small town of 300 in a cyberpunk game"
Here you go anon
>>747827282Partially flooded New York it is.
Do one in DetroitMake it the blackest city possible
>>747832007I was unaware that there was a Chicago gone right
>>747832984This was my first thought lmao
>>747833423It's called Chicago
>>747832984>>747833489
Deus Ex is Detroit.
>>747831286Yeah, China is the easy answer to this question for sure.
>>747827282Shich one is No Law?
All three of the Shadowrun Returns games take place in cities NOT based on LA, Tokyo, or New York. Although Dragonfall and Hong Kong take place in shitty slums and force you to go into the downtown areas for most missions, so it's not like it's really much different.
>>747827282We have spots in Hong Kong and Berlin
>>747832007>gone wrong
Deus ex was set in Detroit
>>747831286I want cyberpunk Kowloon.
>>747833620>>747836542I thought it was New York and Hong KongAm I going nuts?
>>747837871That's DX1 anons are talking about Human Revolution.
>>747827282Sure thing, boss. Here's New New York. It's like Old New York, but it's got more trash.
>>747827282And yet they all just rip off William Gibson and Philip K Dick but never reference their most famous works.
>>747827282here you go, Pragueis there any cyberpunk game other than deus ex that did europe?
>>747838682Shadowrun Dragonfall takes place in Berlin
>>747838682Prague? the city with all the twinks having gay sex?
>>747827282Chongqing it is
>>747831286Chongqing is one
>>747838912yes its basically the amsterdam of central europe
>>747827282>Hello Cyberpunk writer? I would like to order an anime reference that ISN'T the Akira bike slide, please
>>747827282Seattle it is fucknugget
>>747839073ghost in the shell + warhammer 40k coming right up
>>747827282ONE...! NIGHT IN...! TO-KYO!!!ONE...! NIGHT WORTH...! ALL...!!MY LOOOOVE!!!!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF2PrtDjR50&list=RDEF2PrtDjR50&start_radio=1
>Can we get a cyberpunk game but its designed by a subject of King Assripper?
>>747831663And to think that these images are nearly 5 years apartMind blowing
>>747827282Cleveland it is!
>>747827282Sorry, could you be more Pacific?
>>747827282Johannesburg?
>>747827282I'd be down for a Cyberpunk game set in Sao Paulo. Absolute shithole already, just needs the neon signs
>>747839143I think those entire city block pyramid buildings are neat.
>>747837656That's Shadowrun Hong Kong. It's even of vital importance to the story
>>747838983Based and kino
>>747827282How is the writing in cyberpunk? t. slowpoke
it's weird thinking how real life is already reaching the cyberpunk eralike, 2026 doesn't seem like a real year but one of those fake ones in 80s cyberpunk meant to take 50 years in the future
>>747827282Dallas or Houston.
Cyberpunk feels weird to me as a genreIt's obvious that the point is that even with all the technology, we would still in a dystopian-esque environment ourselves. But, every single take of Cyberpunk feels spiritually third world (speaking as a third world inhabitant), Night City feels more like Tijuana than LA
>>747845152>But, every single take of Cyberpunk feels spiritually third worldIt's a dystopian society where corpos control everything. It IS third worldjust like the USA is currently
>>747845152Hahaha, yeah imagine if large portions of all of America's largest cities felt like 3rd world countries. That'd be CRAZY
>>747838682>"Prague">not a single smoke shop in sightlmao
>>747833648>>747831286>>747827282>Cyberpunk has America's "FEAR OF JAPAN" in its DNA>despite the fact that nobody has been scared of Japan in decades>"Just substitute them with China, bro"That doesn't work, because China are communists.
>>747845263The Czechs stopped smoking once it turned out that the science indicated it wasn't actually going to cause them to die early.
>>747845314It doesn't work because China's political institutions actually have control of their Corporate and Industrial Institutions unlike America where it is the other way around.
>>747845385Do you think we need to explain that Cyberpunk is also a "capitalism bad" setting?
>>747832007"Chicago Gone Wrong" aka "Chicago"
>>747845260>>747845252feels kinda cheap, a true "everything returns to crab" mentality
I spent a few nights in São Paulo that seemed straight out of a work of fiction. I almost died about three times there.
>>747845441I know you can only think in binary slogans and buzzwords so this might go over your head but a country's organization being antithetical to the core premise of how the Socio-economic order of a traditional Cyberpunk setting operates, ie. Corporations being the ultimate sovereign polity above nation states, is not an endorsement or criticism of a modern mode of economic structure.
>>747845487>>747845152Yes, that's kind of the point. Capitalism bad, the rich get richer and murder each other, the poor get poorer and start to eat each other, and every urban center turns into Detroit post industrial collapse. The difference is - you don't get cool implants.
>>747845834>it's corporatism, not capitalism!>not true capitalism!Imagine thinking Cyberpunk genre isn't anti-capitalist. Can I honk your nose, clown?
>>747838682yea this sucks actually. Its just the same old buildings but with projections and plastic chunks over them. Im not saying it has to be like what OP is mocking but come on.
>>747837656Kowloon was literally the inspiration for japan's entire cybperunk movement in the 80s. Artists used to take pilgrimages there to sketch the slums for reference material.
>>747845314Untrue. I injected every chinese person with a truth serum at the same time and ran a poll last year.
>>747831218>We still haven't gotten a proper straylight run>CP2077 Sun ending finishes just before you do it
>>747832007I'm just excited for the winter outfits.
>>747838682Deus Ex remake was a travesty. Prime example of why you go big on ideas and start talking mad shit about communism, capitalism, or quote Kaczynski. Instead, they made it smaller, and relatable to American barbaric sensibilities.>augments are just like the abortion debate!>oh no, a clinic is getting bombed!>dude, the former augmented people is just like the civil rights movement! And de-segregation!
>>747845941I don't see what your erroneous takes on what the messaging of the genre have to do with why China in it's current form isn't a suitable alternative to the Political/Industrial cohesion of Japan during it's Miracle Years.
>>747845152>The future is dirtier, lower trust and brownerI love when writers try to shove the standard libtard le ebil corps narrative into the genre when pretty much since the get go (Gibson, arguably even Metropolis) it's been pretty clear that the unwashed masses are just as fallen and godless as the upper class.
>>747846553
>>747845314>That doesn't work, because China are communists.Nobody left of Mamdani actually believes that kek
>>747846796Twitter ""communist"" opinions are irrelevant.
>>747846743did you not read the last half of anon's post?
>>747846908Oh, sorry. Corpo bootsucking triggers a reflex.
>>747846796They're communist in the one way that completely dismantles a central theme of Cyberpunk, which is corporations controlling or replacing governments. Whrn a Chinese billionaire CEO criticizes the government, he gets disappeared for half a years' reeducation and returns as the regime's greatest, most submissive fan. In a Cyberpunk setting it would be the government officials disappearing after criticizing a corporation.
>>747827282>"Hello? Fallout developers? I'd like a game based on a retro-futuristic wasteland.">"...IN RUSSIA! BAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Pretty sure Human Revolution is set in Detroit.
>>747838780And the characters are mostly fags. Checks out.
>>747845941Do me a favour and look up the definition of Corporatism. It's definitely not what you think.
>>747847824>>747846473>>747845834Are there any games, movies or series that explore modern Chinapunk?
