PSMD released on this day 11 years ago in japan. Thoughts on the game? Think we’ll ever see another in the series?

>>747846104This but unironically. Go back to /vp/ pokesnoy
Didn't the Red/Blue Rescue Team remake on Switch sell really well? I feel like, if we were going to see another new PMD, we would have gotten it by now. Maybe 5-10 years it'll come out of nowhere like the Snap sequel, but I wouldn't expect one for a while.
After what happened to the Torneko demake I think they can hold off on PMD for now.
I got my ass handed to me multiple times by this entry. Went back to pick it up years later and the cart got flash corrupted. I was able to fix it, luckily, but have yet to pick it back up. It may be cursed.
I remember disliking the new recruitment system that basically made you rent allies
>>747845987I hope we see another one. Super was pretty mediocre but was at least better than Gates to Infinity. I'd love an Explorers of Sky remake but don't see it as especially likely at this point. Where's my pokemon ranger game with switch 2 mouse controls?
I never played Sky but Explorers of Darkness was one of my favorite games ever. Is Sky worth checking out?
>>747847009Hell ye brother
>>747846556the torneko remake was vibecoded unreal slop by square enix, it would've been fine if they had just asked chunsoft to do it.
>>747845987It was probably the peak mechanically of the series, but I wasn't super fond of the story. Also the post game was pretty short. Bring back Cubone as a player character, he's my favorite.
>>747845987I liked it somewhat. I think the story was too much of a legendary jerk-off, I don’t typically like stories where they fight a definite mindless incarnation or force of evil especially in this series where you could’ve used the mons for the narrative in a way more climatic manner. Yes the explorer games used legends a lot but they were incarnated with their physiology and habits in mind, like Dialga was given a whole new form just because it lost control of the main thing it governed and Palkia went around as an anomaly exterminated to uphold balance. Bittercold was also pretty lame in GtI though the premise of it being manifested through negative emotions was more interesting I guess.Post game was meh, and the actual gameplay loop was a huge step up from GtI but the item balancing is fucked. If you were playing the first two games right, you were always using items anyway because orbs and seeds are very useful for survival, but having stacks of wands was so easy to do and abuse that it kinda just fucked with everything. It’s not like you had to grind to get them, they were given out like candy. Also mega evolutions were a half-assed mechanic.
>>747847009Sky is Darkness/Time, but with some qol and some extra stuff to do. It's essentially Platinum to Diamond and Pearl, Emerald, etc.If it's been a bit since you played Darkness, definitely give it a go if you feel like you wanted more.
Is it normal that when I play these games I really really want to fuck my partner? Is it?
>>747847534Yeah
>>747847517I didn’t grow up with Emerald either, I only had Ruby. I should probably play that one too.
>>>/vp/
>>747847009Sky has another post-game segment added in with a focus on Shaymin, and there’s 5 special episodes that are all really good. Not to mention Spinda’s Cafe, Riolu, and a bunch of added dungeons for post-post game.
>>747847534Completely normal anon
>>747847534it's honestly weird if you play one of the games and don't want to fuck your partner by the end
>>747845987it's alright, not as good as Rescue Team or Explorers obviously, but I enjoyed it. not super optimistic about getting a new game, I wouldn't be surprised if they remake Explorers though.
>>747845987they should've cashed in on a rougelite PMD while they were still a fad
>>747849361They've already got things like Zero Isle, there's not much more roguelike elements can add to a mystery dungeon
>>747845987It's my favorite, I've played it three times.>Think we’ll ever see another in the series?Nope. At best we'll get one last game in the form of a Sky remake, but getting nothing except two remakes in the last 10 years of the series would be awful, too. I want a new game, not a worse version of one I already played.
Mystery Dungeon as a whole seems to be fucking dead.
>>747845987what other mystery dungeon games do you guys like? i've only played the first izuna, one of the ds shiren games and dragon knightess labyrinth izuna was my favorite>747850113has it ever not been dead?
>>747845987>Think we’ll ever see another in the series?NoLegit, all you need is Blue Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky, none of the other games matter.
>>747845987Is the best pokemon mystery dungeon game.
I’ve never played any of these which one do I start with? The first one came out during a really bad time in my life so I associate it heavily with that. My brother had both versions of the first game and id watch him play- and he enjoyed it a lot during that period. I tried to play either the ds or gba one that came out first a handful of years ago but it brings back bad memories. I still want to play it though. It just makes me sad when I hear the music. Makes me feel like I’m back in 2006 or whatever and is actually painful but I still have always wanted to play the game anyway. My dad was in the hospital and a lot of bad stuff was going on. sad thing about life is it seems like it always finds a way to get worse. And I’d go back there in a heartbeat to redo everything to make the most of what I could.
>>747851282EoS is usually regarded as the best one, it has the strongest story by a pretty wide margin and either the best or second best gameplay depending on who you ask. Only problem is it's downhill from there
>>747851282Explorers of the sky I guess, because it doesn't use the same music for the most part.
>>747851282Red/Blue Rescue Team or Explorers of Sky. Red and Blue are the same game on different consoles, blue is on the DS and has a better sound chip with the dual screens being useful for showing info, it’s what I would play. There’s a switch remake that tries recreating the original art style you’d see on the main menu and stuff, but it changes game mechanics up to make it more like super. There’s no friend areas either, they’re basically traded in for way better boss arenas because the original game just used the dungeons regular tile set for the arenas.
>>747851581I'd also say that Super looks worse in some ways because of how poorly a few of the models are rigged, especially poor Ekans. I do think overall it looks pretty nice though
>>747846870Those sorts of spinoffs are basically all but deadAccording to the teraleak, the reason they stepped away from them was because the cost was too much and there wasn’t enough profit to justify their existence. It’s why they were so far and few in-between from gen 6 onward compared to previously, and given the performance of the ones that did come out during then, it’s not difficult to see whySpinoffs aren’t completely dead though, but now they’re in the form of mobile games cause>they’re cheaper and easier to develop>can inject microtransactions for big profits>can reach a much larger audience than a game locked to a system>anything to get from under nintendo’s thumbAnd they’re all successful in raking in cash. Why would you wanna make a few millions in game sales when you can make hundreds of millions with microtransactions? Hell, even champions has a phone version and pushes microtransactions for people to stay competitiveOn the other hand though, with pokopia being the second best-selling switch 2 game it could make them consider making more console spinoffs, but i’m sure even they know it has to do with the game being “animal crossing: pokemon edition” than anything else, and that any other spinoff won’t see the same success unless it fits that same mold
>>747845987I liked it at first, but the further in I got the more cracks showed in the gameplay. The break system disallowing you to take your favorites with you whenever you wanted for arbitrary excuses was retarded, the nullification of the basic attack was annoying, and megas were poorly handled. Not to mention how pressured you are to push along with the story; after a few days of doing missions, you are -forced- to progress, regardless of how prepared you are for the next area. A lesser skilled player can get themselves in a bad spot that they will find difficult to recover from. Also the story starts out great but trashes itself a third of the way in. By the time the Expedition Society is introduced, the plot has already started rolling. All the developing characters from the starting village (aside from maybe Espurr) are left to rot with nothing left for them in the plot, and the Expedition Society themselves have zero opportunity to develop either, leaving them all as one-note caricatures who are only known for their gimmick. This wouldn't be a problem normally since all PMD games do this, but abandoning a cast of potentially fun characters just to adhere to the most basic tried and true PMD character formula is outright depressing. And the villain is just a worse Bittercold from Gates. So yeah I liked it when I first played it, but having replayed it years later made me wish it was a lot better, and at times I kept saying I'd rather be playing Sky instead. Or even Rescue Team, fuck.Let the Chunsoft guys work on a Mystery Dungeon for another IP. I'd like to see what they'd do for something like Digimon or Palworld.
>>747845987loved the retarded friend but otherwise didn't give a fuck. all these games are the same, lame graphics, lame animations, indie tier budget and it shows. didn't even bother finishing it
>>747852024To be perfectly honest I would be satisfied with just having a decent game where you can play as a Pokemon again, it doesn't specifically have to be PMD.
>>747845987I liked it. Really didn’t need the game to be set in pre-school though it made a good contrast to everyone dying at endgame
>>747852257Have you played the Pokepark games? They're genuinely good. Especially the 2nd one.
>>747852421Are they? I always just thought that they were like basic kids games
>>747852437They're action adventure games. Sure they're kiddy but the gameplay is still great. First one you play as Pikachu, the second one gives you Pikachu and the Unova starters.
>>747845987>Think we’ll ever see another in the series? No since Chunsoft is too busy making shitty vn games at the momment.
>>747852920It's up to Nintendo/Game Freak, not Chunsoft. They developed the Switch remake so they would definitely accept if they were asked.
>>747852437It’s about as kiddy as a game can be without delving into toddler territory, but it’s very solid. First game was my first pokemon game>>747852421>Especially the 2nd oneReally? All i’ve ever heard of that one was it being a step down. Not bad per say, but the sort of step down where there’s literally no reason to play since you’ll just get the same experience but worse>>747853197>They developed the Switch remake so they would definitely accept if they were askedI wouldn’t say it like it’s a guarantee. That’s only assuming the remake did well enough that they’d be incentivized to take another crack at it, and that’s assuming nintendo/gamefreak are interested in going for another which is also predicated on the performance of the last one. And as far as I can tell it didn’t make much of a splash
>>747845987Mystery Dungeon games suck. Great soundtrack at least.
>>747845987I liked it, got it as a gift from a friend, it's one of the few physical 3DS games I still own>Think we’ll ever see another in the series?picrel
>>747852024We just got Pokopia and Arceus was a spinoff that got a sequel. There's at least stuff in the aether even if what I want is pokemon pinball 3
I love pokemon so much. I hope the new games can recapture the magicZA was actually a decent game if it had been a switch launch title
>>747853992>Arceus was a spinoff that got a sequelsure, but those games can still interact with the main series games through Pokemon Home. By all accounts, they're still main series. Pokopia is certainly a surprising addition though.
>>747853992>pokopiaAddressed in the last paragraph. They’re not completely dead, just that mobile game’s have taken their place>ArceusThe legends games are a an exception as they’re done by GF and are tied to the mainline series. The difference between the mainline and legends games and those games to the other spinoffs are what 2d and 3d mario are to each other and what those are to shit like mario party/tennis/kart/etc.
>>747853586Eh. To each their own. I liked the higher stakes story and multiple characters.
>Pokemon>not Shirenweak, very weak
>>747852024>Those sorts of spinoffs are basically all but deadIt's a real shame too. While they didn't make as much money s the newer mobile spin offs, I think the old ones still helped with making the franchise have a bunch of different experiences in store beyond just mainline.I'd love to get a new Rangers or Conquest game for example. They don't even need to be groundbreaking or anything either.
>>747855143It honestly surprises me that the PMD games didn't do well because every single person with a pokesona fucking loves those games
>>747856429I guess you could call it furrybait then.
>>747857119Yeah, it's true, but I'm just surprised there aren't enough of them to make it profitable
>>747845987I didn't like Super very much. The odds of seeing another entry aren't zero but close to it.
