When the PS2 came out it was a huge leap in graphical fidelity. In fact it's the biggest leap ever. And around 99% of people wanted 3D games. Capcom was in the lead so they decided to keep making 2D games... since they were cocky and in the lead. That backfired immediately. SNK not wanted to be beaten by their sister kept making 2D fighting games too. And that backfired for them as well. In fact even in the JRPG genre 2D JRPGs at that time were seen as "old and outdated" by many reviewers. Basically no one wanted 2D, everyone wanted 3D for their new powerful as fuck Playstation 2.And so... the Tekken series, DOA series, even the Virtua Fighter series saw their HIGHEST PROFITS EVER. DOA2 was on Dreamcast and PS2. But then the superior version DOA2Ultimate was exclusive to Xbox. DOA2U outsold both the Dreamcast and the PS2 ver COMBINED!! AND IT WAS ONLY ON A FUCKING XBOX. Then DOA3 was exclusive to Xbox and the same thing. Also Xbox got DOA1Ultimate. Tekken and Virtua Fighter wasn't even on Xbox they were exclusive to PS2 and every version of those games reached it's sale goal. *note* Literally every single 3D fighting game from the 6th generation has a "Greatest Hits/Platinum Hits" Edition that is only possible if you reach a certain sales goal.
