Sony made the right choice.
Never listen to gamers about high-level business decisions.

sony chuds...

What high level business decisions were gamers advising?

so a shit game that sold like shit got beat by a shit game that sold slighty less shit?

Funny how snoy accounts are finally shitting on kojima. You people deserve no sympathy.
>>
This has less to do with the quality of the wolverine game and more to do with both death stranding games being boring, pseudo deep, trash. Its not really a fair comparison. But whatever, more money for sony I guess.

>>748026529
not bad. its only $350 million away from not being a massive loss.

How much did they both cost? Wolverine should have been a massive success at 2 million copies for how unpolished and unambitious it is, but sadly it's still not profitable.
>>
>>748027718
Both had a budget of around $100M

lol, what a cope

trying to treat it as a gotcha when it literally said "analytics estimates," not "Sony said"

like it's already blatant that people treat Alinea as completely accurate until it breaks their personal narrative, but this shitty community note really puts that on display
>>
>>748027286
Sony was bragging about the sales of Spiderman 2 the day after its release all over social media. Nothing but silence from Sony, and Insomniac about Wolverines sales figures ohnonono.
>>
>>748027967
Kojima-sama is an auteur, transcending labels to create something new, ludo, kino, and much more
>>
>>748027718
Death stranding had a reported dev cost of 200 million and only sold 2.5 mil with 71 percent of those on PlayStation 5. There's only one source for wolverine dev costs, with a supposed "insider" saying it was 305 mil, with no verification. Wolverine has only been out for 4 days.
>>
>>748026529
>analyst says
>"We told a dude to invent some random numbers to try and make investors not drop our stocks"
Snoy is really desperate, aren't they?
>>
>>748027993
What the readers note adds is that the statement of Wolverine making that revenue in 3 days, FALSELY COUNTS EVERY PRE-ORDER.
The game had an extensive pre-order period, that was DEFINITELY longer than 3 days.
>>
>>748027967
Yes? Are you retarded?
The A´s are the amount of risk(budget) the game has.

>>
>>748026529
Alright lets break it down then, if were doing comparisons;
>death stranding sold around 2.5 million
>budget around 100 million(estimating upwards)
>it has generated its money back to the sum of 200 million. It cost less, it sold less but it made more money because it of what it cost to make
>fans of DS actually like it and have a game they enjoy
vs
>Wolverine sold around 2 million
>budget is THREE HUNDRED MILLION
>it needs to sell 6 million to break even
>Wolverine is the only Sony release this year
>fans of Wolverine hate it, they wanted more than a 10 hour long linear paint by numbers game. This is considered to be a fire and forget title, not a household name

So yea, Wolverine beat DS2 lifetime sales, now look at how much it cost to make and how much it needs to sell to make the money back, and most importantly do people even like it.
>>
>>748029307
>has run out of arguments because he knows indie can't be AAA

I have no horse in this race, but neither one seems like a particularly good investment. Wolverine for being too by-the-numbers for the metrics it needs to hit, and DS for having little appeal beyond Kojima's existing fanbase. Both games are simply too expensive for what they are, and who they're reaching.
>>
>>748026529
Source?
>according to someone familiar with the matter
Let me know when Sony releases numbers and you aren't quoting a twitter personality.
>>
>>748029736
You'd think Sony would have paraded these numbers around the second they got confirmation if they were real if only to try and shut critics up.
>>
>>748026529
It all makes sense once you realize that most console owners are literally niggers who play nothing but FIFA and Call of Duty.
>>
>>748029492
Youre right that I was wrong on 100 mill, turns out that was DS1 youre also wrong that it was 250. DS2 is between 150 and 200, apparently, even at the highest estimate thats 100 million short of Wolverines budget non. 100 MILLION. They need to sell a lot more than DS2 did to make their money back.

>>748029694
A agree, when I was looking into Dragons Dogma 2 and saw that it was only 70~ million I understood why Capcom was so happy with the outcome even though it has a borked launch, and why Capcom is the only videogame company that is seeing UPWARDS trajectory and making future plans rather than scrambling to fill holes in their ship.
How the fuck is a linear 10 hour long game costing 300 million and the credits look like a war memorial for multiple countries. What the fuck were they working on.
>>
>>748029894
Sorry can’t say things we can be taken to court over. But we can have our sock puppet make shit up
>>
>>748030120
Yeah, Sony does shady shit like this all the time to give an image that they're doing better than they are in reality. I don't know why they have to since they're raking in billions in free cash from ball and gun normalfags.

Wow its like the normie demographic that doesn't actively pay attention to video game discourse and maybe buys 2-3 games a year. Decided to buy the new wolverine game. I think they're going to be disappointed if they played the other major exclusive titles for the PS5. These people outnumber us 10:1. Anyone surprised that is a success has their head up their own ass.

This what we call this in the business is a sub-demographic-op. The game isn't selling or reviewing as well as the big wigs hoped. So now it's up to marketing to try and find retards who can still be swayed into buying the game, that's the sub-demographic. At this point the broad 16-60 demographic is fucked, it'll NEVER side with the game in a majority, so they need to target specific sub-demographics who might be swayed to buy the game for idiot reasons. You basically have two options. Show stupid people big numbers because big numbers = good. Or the dark horse option that almost never works, but when it does it works great, the "morbius" option, where you lean into the jank and shitty nature of the product as a joke to get the irony buy(people see Bethesda do this, then try themselves, and go fucking bankrupt).

The Big Numbers play you're seeing here is working on a two tier psychological ploy.
Tier 1: retards hear big numbers, and assume the smaller numbers like review scores now mean nothing, "if that many people got it, it must be good", or "the review scores are always wrong, just look at those sales" (this ones great because it forces places like IGN and Gamespot to report on a games "success" while their 6/10 review is still on the front page, it's like a humiliation ritual)
Tier 2: the loyalist appeal, seeing those sales numbers might make some retards hesitant to refund the game even if they think it's shit but due to brand loyalty they won't want to hurt it's chances of being a success.
>>
It’s really funny to see the xbots treating Kojima and his games which they’ve made fun of relentlessly up until now as if they were the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Tribalism really does mess with people’s heads.
>>
>>748029404
>>748029694
NTA, but another thing to consider is that Death Stranding is a prestige title, those usually aren't expected to make massive profits.
Meanwhile Wolverine is one of the most popular superheroes in the world, his game was expected to sell millions and millions and make huge profits.
>>
>>748030787
Considering IGN should have closed their doors years ago, them going through the humiliation ritual is the least of what they deserve.
>>
>>748027993
I as totally real anal-yst say that Wolverine is 1 billions in dept, sold 2 copies only (1 gifted to some hobo) and Sony is currently doing another mass layoff.
Source? Professional estimates.

irrelevant. Miles, spider man 2 and now wolverine have all been diminishing returns for insomniac. this will do what they've always done. sell well (below their expectations) for a first party title, then be looked on in a year with indifference or bitterness. Spider man PS4 was clearly a one hit wonder.

and speaking of bitterness, this thread only exists because sony shills are on damage control about being abandoned by kojima and losing all their good PR with him.

What happens if I unironically agree, OP? Sony is gonna make bank from the same idiots complaining about expensive ass discs that aren't even popular. You can't beat the elite with sheep, that's the game they're good at.
>>
>>748031715
They lost most of their remaining good PR when they killed physical. Wolverine not being worth the money it cost to produce at the same moment they 86 Kojima for spending too much money was the icing on the cake.
>>
>>748030901
I always saw modern Jimbo as funny westaboo guy who just wants to hang out with his favorite movie stars. He's made like three things in his life that are less shitpost than game. People have this crazy high expectation of him and he's just fuckin around. It's funny.

what narrative tho ? because this is still horrible for the sony exclusive with a 300m budget, 1.9m in 3 days is much worse than all their previous exclusive in modern times and half of it is pre-orders
