I will never not believe that Nintendo changed his design out of thirty plus years of spite towards Rareware for making Donkey Kong who everyone knows him as. He was a cool, laidback surfer bro who could also kick ass when he had to. Him breaking free of his chains and uppercutting K. Rool in DKC2 is still the coolest moment in gaming. I kind of wish Nintendo had kept the generational aspect from Donkey Kong Country. They could have made the Bananza DK a new one and had the old one talk about how much better 2D platformers are than 3D ones.
