Just take off the nostalgia goggles for a second. Ocarina of Time has aged poorly. It happens to any game eventually. It sucks, but it's true. It was great for it's time, but now? It just doesn't hold up. The empty world, the linearity, the basic combat, and it's only like 30hrs long at best. That just doesn't hold up to todays standards.

Nintendo knows this. So is this really a 1:1 remake? They must know that after Botw and Totk another archaic linear and short 3D Zelda isn't going to met the standards of the new fanbase that overwhelmingly dwarfs the old one right? Can't really be 1:1. So what are they really plotting here? There has to be some FF7R tier bait and switch. Or just like how they hid the depths when advertising Totk, they're hiding some that significant. They have to be...

Hasn't aged poorly at all, which is why this is a 1:1 remake and Nintendo doesn't even bother changing anything big besides graphics

You are hating on this game for 20 years now and it didn't move the needle one bit. Everyone is excited for this lazy remake

>>
Not exactly a 1:1 remake but pretty close. The minimap for hyrule field and kokiri village look about the same size as the original.
>>
>>748118938
while what you say is logical and potentially true; but consider this. Have you seen modern UE5 slops? Did they really exceed the best we have over decades ago? Answer these in your heart and you will know OOT is still decent, especially with a new coat of paint. Is pretty good for a kid game.

>The empty world
not empty, every area is dense except the field and fields are supposed to be big and open, makes finding epona and unlocking the overworld shortcuts fun
>the basic combat
games have basic combat to this day because the basics are the best thing. dark souls is essentially hit enemy, press dodge button when enemy attacks, hit enemy again. they just have to make it harder because oot was designed for an audience before 200 souls like games. if they don't do that, then that's indeed retarded but not the original's fault
>and it's only like 30hrs long at best
that's not a negative. totk is as long as it is because of copy paste caves where you find dlc costumes from botw
>linear
the game opens up almost completely right away and you can even do multiple dungeons out of order (desert, shadow, bottom of the well, leave dungeons after getting the item, etc.)

I just finished the newest Tales of game and it literally doesn't have a single puzzle even though Tales of games always had puzzles. I WISH it had OoT's weakest puzzles. Or also Xenoblade games, it's crazy how there is virtually no interactivity in them.

As a xenogears and xenosaga fan I am saddened beyond belief about the dumpster fire that is Xenoblade. After playing 2 I cant grasp the appeal of a single player MMO designed to sexually frustrate you.
>>
>>748118938
It's true. Combat is simple to the point of being brainless. Dungeons aren't fun when you know how to solve them. Idk how people can play this once every year. It has a great atmosphere, but the game itself is so braindead easy.
>>
>>748118938
>It happens to any game eventually
No, it doesn't. I still enjoy 'pac-girl' for DOS. People enjoy tennis which is hundred of years old. If a 'game' aged it's not a game, it's a soem kind of place/story simulator instead. An actual game cannot 'age'.
>>

>Ocarina of Time has aged poorly
>Still has better combat than any fromslop/parryslop game or action rpg post 360/ps3 era
>has actual dungeons, not like botw or totk in which the mechas are a joke a completely optional
>even when the map is small there is still more content than going from point A to B
>tries to compare it to FF7R, a fanfiction that cut off the entire game in 3 parts, making the first entry just Midgar, the first 4 hours of the original game.
Even if it was a 1:1 Remake without any new content it would still be great just for the simple fact that its a recreation of the best action game ever created, offering better graphics and not just simply basic upscaling like most "remakes" do
>>
>>748118938

When has Nintendo ever done anything like that?
When it comes to Nintendo games you should ALWAYS go by what's literally shown. Assume nothing beyond that. They are not known for surprises.
It's a 1:1 just like the LA remake and Star Fox remake.
>>
>>748121417
what? I dont think about OOT for the last 30 years. I finished it and move on to Warcraft 3 / smash bro or something 30 years ago. You are the one obsessing about a kid's game. Us normal adult sees the OOT remake "oh great, I am going to buy this for our kids". you are the one seething about how you peaked 30 years ago with this sad man child post.
>>
>>748121621
That's not true.
They're adding a jump button and BotW inventory controls. For some reason.
>>
>>748121364
If I can't play something a second time and enjoy it, it's simply not a good game. Mario 64 and Sonic Adventure are fun on subsequent playthroughs. OoT I just go through the same path every time with very little difference in gameplay style. The only way to make it fun in subsequent playthroughs is to glitch the game and do silly stuff like skipping the sword and shield, but that's only fun up to a certain point.

It's 1:1 in terms of the actual content, adding a jump button is basically meaningless if the level design is still the same. At best they've made tiny adjustments here and there. It's nothing substantial like new dungeons, added challenges, etc. It's all the same stuff with new graphics.
Compare it to something like the first Resident Evil remake (which is considered "faithful") which makes a shitton of changes to the content to the point that it's essentially a new game. And that was only a 6 year gap.

>>748121758
That's another good example and the rare time a Nintendo remake actually made substantial changes. Of course that was 22 years ago.

>Ocarina of Time has aged poorly.
You're correct.
>1:1
Somewhat, it's not exactly a 1:1 recreation. I did notice a few small changes, like Link blocking the Iron Knuckle's attack. But yes, it's almost a 30 year old game with outdated combat and core design. Original looked great considering the 1998 hardware limitations, but the remake has horrendous models because of the mediocre art direction.
>Just take off the nostalgia goggles for a second.
Fanboys, including the ones that work in the media, will eat that shit up due to the brand power, resulting in 90 to 95 scores at the bare minimum.

Game journalism is a joke, people are more lenient (sometimes straight up afraid to criticize, no one wants to be the next "Twilight Princess 8.8") with Nintendo games.

Contemporary standards are awful. Completely focus on quantity rather than quality. I don´t want a million busywork sidequest that add nothing to the main game and force me to revisit areas a thousand times. I´d rather have fewer quests that add something to the experience (useful tools, information about relevant characters or unique boss encounters or areas). I don´t want a thousand NPCs that only serve to make the world seem more populated or ubisoft tier buildings that allow me to search areas and fill my map with sidequest marks, i want the unknown, the exploration and discovery, the adventure... i certainly don´t want it to look like AI or unreal slop that make everything feel grounded. I literally want the opposite, a transportative fairy tale look.

The game we're getting is 1:1 the same puzzles, same platforming, same story events in the same order, and everything.
I agree that OoT feels old enough to filter people unless they're willing to play something that feels old, just like you can enjoy an Alfred Hitchcock film if you know what you're getting yourself into, whereas in 1998 and even the early 2000s the game at least felt quite relevant.

But it's the storytelling, the atmosphere and excellence of the dungeon layouts that made me a fan of the game, and those things are mostly going to be the same in the remake. In fact, I have a strong suspicion the story won't be good in the remake, because all you have to do to ruin it is replace its melancholy and poetry with filler-dialogue and over-explained story themes instead of being poetic. The original game has a slightly blunt translation but the writing is not bad, and its meaning is excellent. The way the Saria cutscene looks when she says goodbye now looks kinda bland. It was such an evocative moment in the original, when the frame shows her standing by the bridge and Link near the exit. The new cutscene doesn't seem to have that. instead they're both just "hanging out" and she's very easily moving on while saying goodbye and that it's okay. But in the original the purpose was that she knows the life they had together permanently ends in that very moment, and he will never be the boy who could become her life companion, because he's not like her, so she's saying goodbye, and he just thinks he's leaving for an adventure to return when it's done... and then later in the game he learns there's a reason why he never felt like one of the Kokiris.

Stuff like that I don't think will be properly re-explained in the remake. It'll be explained but it'll be done with cheesy and cutesy flavor-text that ruins it.

The remake is more outdated in this sense. All modern games are, where shit writing is the default.

If anything's gonna topple BotWism, it won't be sheer reception, but how it's just not sustainable as a game design model to make the standard going forward, especially not paired with EPD's increasingly nasty habit of feature/tech creep over the past decade. TotK should've been a relatively fast asset flip but it ended up taking even longer than BotW itself and nearly twice the manpower.

They got better with MM, but the graphics have aged, mainly the textures.
Spyro, Megaman Legends and Crash all came out in the same year as oot and they look miles better by comparison. All 3 allow you to skip cutscenes and speed up text too.
>B-But just press B!
Not 90% of the time. It's retardedly slow on purpose and that's evident by the beta builds letting you mash your way through text.
Anyways, the PC port fixes the most of the games issues, so go play that instead and quit crying.
>>
>>748118938
They have updated gameplay, tons of new dialogue and cutscenes, and we can infer based on the new brand consistency mandate they will add on to the story, at the very least explaining why Link doesn't talk in this one, like they did for BotW, EoW, and they're doing for the movie. My guess is that they got a new dungeon or two as well. And I think there's an item upgrading system because some footage shows the hookshot with a kino laser sight and others don't. Hopefully, it comes with a dungeon maker.
