In hindsight, was FNAF going full sci-fi a mistake?
>>
>>748119875
Anything past the first game was a mistake, even 2 just started royally fucking things up
>>
Yes. The appeal was the supernatural and trying to explain it with pseudoscience ruins it. Also, making a rouge AI endoskeleton the main villain is lame as hell.
>>

>The appeal was the supernatural and trying to explain it with pseudoscience ruins it.
I don't see how it ruins it though? What's functionally the difference? They're still haunted and it's still creepy.
>>
>>748121421
It takes away the fear of the unknown and the supernatural. How am I going to be scared of some shitty ai vs a ghost entry that can still haunt and kill you even if you destroy the metal body it's inhabiting? The "haunting" now is all just AI.
>>
>>748121595
FNAF 5 showed that you can't actually control remnant. And even the FNAF 1 robots were infected with remnant and still came out and attacked William after he tried dismantling them.
>>
>>748121137
This.
It's incredible how royally those death minigames completely fucked the rest of the series forever, and nothing Scott did afterwards did anything but make the problems of the incomprehensible story even worse.
>>
>>748122232
Explain how?
>>
>>748119875
Scott was always into sci-fi
>>
>>748119875
I don't care about anything Scott Cawthon makes any more.
>>
>>748122232
FNAF would die back in 2015 if it didn't have lore
>>
>>748122663
The main issue is with how they show largely the same events but play fast and loose with the details.
>First game establishes all kids died in a back room after the killer lured them with a costume
But in the Fnaf 2 minigames
>Foxy finds 5 dead kids and one purple guy in a single room
>Freddy travels the pizzeria and finds 5 dead kids in many different rooms while encountering a purple guy roaming the place
>Freddy gives children cake while a purple guy kills a kid outside the building
>The Puppet revives 4 kids as animatronics but not the fifth one
Those first two in particular made many conclude there were even more murders, because the only information we get from those minigames directly contradicts what the first game establishes. However, we know that wasn't Scott's intention, because for the entire rest of the series we only see the first five kids. He was just being a moron and included those minigames to establish that the murders happened at the Fnaf 2 location, without paying attention to what he was actually doing.
The Golden Freddy one gets even worse because it's clear GF was always special and probably always the first night guard's brother, but Scott continued to contradict himself and his answers never worked when you looked at the actual evidence he gave us. That's why a lot of people think Golden Freddy is two kids because that's the simplest answer with everything actually in the games taken into account, even though that doesn't seem to be Scott's intention at all.

>It’s a Scott keeps adding more secret Afton kids episode
>it’s a Scott keeps adding bites in the 80s episode
>it’s a Scott keeps adding a secret inventor who was the real brains behind Fazbear episode
>it’s a Scott keeps adding old restaurants before Fazebear episode
>it’s a Scott keeps trying to bring back William/Springtrap episode
>it’s a Scott keeps forcing old references episode
>It’s a Scott adds another mystery after not solving the other ones episode
>it’s a Scott forgets what was in the box episode

While I agree with your points, I still believe the other games add value as long as you treat them as their own separate thing.
Sort of like the later Dune books.

Anon, the toys are also possessed in FNAF 2. Those other minigames were to show where the FNAF 2 children got killed and how they possessed the toys now too. That doesn't contradict anything in FNAF 1.
>>
>>748124236
The toys aren't possessed, those supposed kids are never brought up again. If they did exist then Scott would've brought them up in any of the many endings he gave later games. The toys are acting up because of the murders messing with their security technology.
>>
>>748124801
Anon, the whole "facial recognition" stuff was always complete and utter bullshit given by the company to explain why the robots were acting up. It's the same excuse that they gave the robots acting up in FNAF 1 with the whole "They see you as a metal endoskeleton without it's costume on." FNAF 2 even mentions that there's an investigation going on.

The reality is that they were always possessed, rather by remnant from the other animatronic parts or because of the other murders being depicted in the games. The reason why the other kids aren't brought up as much is presumably because the original five are the progenitor for the whole series.

>"Hello? Hello...uh...what on earth are you doing there, uh didn’t you get the memo, uh, the place is closed down, uh, at least for a while. Someone used one of the suits. We had a spare in the back, a yellow one, someone used it...now none of them are acting right."

This is literally in the Night 6 phone call during FNAF 2.
>>
>>748121137
Yeah, I still love the first game dearly. I appreciate the simplicity of its horror. There's just barely enough of a story told to get your imagination going but nothing is really explained because it didn't need to be. I genuinely think the game would be held in higher regard if not for what came next in the series. I hope it sees reappraisal as a horror classic someday.

>be slick willy
>has the ability to create autonomous drones capable of killing people with ease (even if later games claim he wasn't the brains he was still capable of creating/tainting new ones)
>also figures out secret to immortality
>doesn't go to government and get an infinite supply of kids to scare torture and kill
I realize this would make it essentially resident evil with how umbrella is given infinite resources but it'd be more interesting than what we've gotten storywise since like 4
>>
>>748126160
That's just Poppy Playtime.
>>
>>748123950
I don't think this way. I like FNAF lore as a whole.
>>
>>748119875
Im fine with the FNAF story from 1 all the way to 6. FNAF 6 was the perfect conclusion to the storyline and still left enough to interpretation and theorizing, forcing it to continue beyond 6 was a huge mistake.
>>
>>748127163
Fair
>>
>>748127939
NTA but 6 basically killed off :
-all sister location animatronics
-lefty/puppet
-william afton EXCEPT he might escape super hell if you beat 50/20 mode. its been 8 years and they haven't used william afton since chronologically since they've effectively retconned his appearance in security breach as the mimic
-mike/security guy

and replaced everything with new shittier characters and versions of animatronics. so short of retconning that entire ending it was ideally a good point to end it on, yeah.
>>
yes, but there was hardly any continuity to ruin in these games in the first place and if anyone's to blame for all the 'horror' fad trying to be SCP, it's youtuber theory slop and all the toddlers who watch it
>>
>>748128465
Theoryshit and let's players working together to keep these games alive so they can continually milk them for views. Both can see there's nothing worth a damn here but it's buying them new cars and teams to edit their videos and giving them an unearned celebrity status so why kill the golden goose?
>>
>>748121190
The supernatural stuff was stupid too. The premise of malfunctioning animatronics was fine on its own

This game series was always shit. Allshamnowow called it back in the day too.

nah fuck you watching a 4channer be the first one to beat 4/20 live was kino
>>
1-3 are the definitive games, telling a story from start to finish.
4 is okay if you only interpret it as wrapping up a loose end with William.
5 is where it started going downhill but with 6 it becomes another solid ending.
Everything after that shit the bed.

The Foxy minigame existing is what implies FNAF2's murders are different, old Foxy wasn't working there.
