I couldn’t even get past the first stage or two, dropped it right away. Beat plenty of other “hard” games over the years as well.

I feel like people underestimate how hard boshy is just because a lot of streamers have played it. It is very hard even amongst iwbtg type games.
iwbtg is more like a meme troll game rather than a tough platformer also

>>
>>748138215
as a platformer, it just forces you to do one precise path really optimally, which can be fun for a bit, but creative varied approaches are one of the core aspects of enjoyable platforming, so it really outstays its welcome if you want to beat the game or god forbid get all the achievements

>>748138241

idk. i only played iwbtg, and that was in middle school. But I did beat it on hard mode and once I got the hang of it I didn't think it was so terrible. Im not sure what the difference is but I assume a meme troll game is harder than a "good" platformer? It was quite the bitch to complete. Especially mother brain and some of the later spike rooms with optional areas.

Loved playing this with my friend when I was in the first grade. We would genuinely trial and error over and over trying to solve each level. I think the furthest I ever got was the one where you have to input the 'Lost' code near the very end. Real difficulty is something like solving a puzzle with no help, or playing against a real human opponent that's doing things you can't predict. Going through a screen of IWBTG 500 times to learn where every trap is isn't difficult, just time consuming.

Reducing these games to just gacha moment simulators is disingenuous. The amount of deaths you will have from things appearing randomly or trolling you by the end of your playtime will be less than 1% of them. Once you've died to them once from not having expected them, the only reason you'll die to them again is from executing the precision and knowhow to avoid them which. They're hard to avoid once you know they're there regardless if they caught you off guard a single time. You'll still be dying dozens of times afterward even knowing about them. This argument is always so dumb.

Also, IWBTG is way easier than most people seem to believe it is. If you've played Celeste Chapter 9 or done any Dark World in Super meat Boy, then you've already completed something harder than anything in IWBTG, and I'm serious. I beat IWBTG in one 8 hour sitting my very first time playing it. Boshy is where those types of games get actually difficult. Boshy by comparison took me 4 months, and one of those months was just spent on a single boss fight, Cheetahmen. These games are not even comparable in difficulty.

I thought hard about it and i just don't know. What i know though is that most hard games are only hard if you handicap yourself or purposefully pick a higher difficult option.

Most, to not say all games, are easily beatable. Maybe you can spend a few hours on some difficult challenge here and there, but it's never anything really hard to the point of even if you keep trying for hundreds of hours you might not succeed.

I guess the real really really difficult games are optional autistic challenges or competitive multiplayer ones.

I'd say as far as executional difficulty goes, most of it emodies what makes execution difficult, but that's not really a good thing and prestigious by extension. Things that are hard to execute physically are naturally uncomfotable, and so on top of iwbtg fangames precision platforming being really precise they are also often uncomfortable. Although, they are kind of artificial in that theres's esoteric techniques required because subpixel shit isn't consistent so you have to do dumb shit to get the proper "align".
>>
>>748139712
>no skill execution
Didn't play it award. Also, most of the spinoff games in the "genre" are far more focused on execution rather than memorization, but like someone else in the thread pointed out, the memorization stuff is about 1% of your total deaths while most of your deaths will be from getting good at the execution.

But ultimately, yes, this is not only related to games, but if you can keep trying over and over anything that does not involve competing against another being trying to beat you, you will eventually succeed.

The only exception would be some insurmountable challenge that would require insane skills

Off the top of my head, Sunder for Doom II on UV full pistol-start, Ninja Gaiden II and Razor's Edge on MN/UN, Darkest Dungeon on Bloodmoon, and Max Payne 3 New York Minute Hardcore. SoR2 1CC on Mania was a pain in the ass as well. Tetris Grandmaster 2 is the one game I can think of that completely filtered me.

I've also played a few racing games here and there that, on the hardest difficulties, can be quite tough in hot-lap/time-attack modes, like Colin McRae DIRT 2 on Hardcore. Then there are also the more extreme racing sims in general.

I can't think of anything else right now, though.

Baba is You filtered me pretty badly.
As do some rhythm games. I remember trying some cabinet called Museca that was 5 button, but there were also inputs to spin the buttons, and there was a foot pedal too. I also walked up to SDVX and went "what the fuck" with the nipple twist knobs and the screen rotating. At a point there's just too many inputs, especially for these shits that have different kinds of inputs, and my brain short circuits. Not that I'm very good at these games anyway, my peak was being able to do some of the lower difficulty extremes in Beat Saber and Project Sekai and that's about it.
However the hardest game I've truly sat and grinded away at is Splatoon because I've never gotten that deep into competitive games otherwise. I actually got pretty decent. Peaked close to the top 500 back when x battle was new in 3 and I was sweating the fuck out that game. On the western server anyway, barely a sneeze to the japs.

Using your own logic, which do you think is actually hard? A "hard" test but all you need is to remember are the exact answers, because the questions are the same every time? Or a test where you need to study and internalize an entire book and apply that knowledge differently on each situation, because the test questions change each time?

>Sunder
Put pretty much anything by Ribbix in the same pile.
Still, that's child's play compared to doom 'tism simulators like Okuplok, Chillax and my favorite example of sheer, unbridled autism, Tarakannik 3.

To add to the pile of difficult games: N (the flash game), and its sequels, N+ and N++ are way up there in the platformer difficulty. These games are the momentum platformer genre distilled to its purest essence and then turned up to 11. I don't usually shill games, but in these, the skill ceiling is much higher than any of the platformers I played. Plus, there's a lot of levels - N++ has so much shit to do that 100%ing it may easily take up a year or several.
>>
>>748141343
>once you learn where everything is the game becomes easy
Doesn't apply to precision platformers, because they're difficult regardless of whether you know where to go. The actual execution is still the main challenge. Even when you know exactly what to do, you still have to actually pull it off.
And your logic is stupid anyway. Almost any metroidvania has a set of answers that you eventually learn. By that logic, those games should be the easiest, while roguelikes should be the hardest games ever. That's obviously not how it works.

More recent Fire Emblem games on permadeath are extremely hard. I bet less than 1% of players beat conquest on lunatic.
Necrodancer is also by far the hardest game I've ever played and it's a tactics game. The time pressure for moves is the biggest part of that, but it's not exactly a dexterity challenge for most characters.
There's stuff like broforce and tboi as well which are just ridiculous time sinks on their hardest difficulties, but that's definitely because they require dexterity rather than anything like tactics.

Other than that nothing stands out as being crazy hard, besides stuff like rhythm games and multiplayer stuff where fans are just stupid and there's basically no ceiling to how much you can overload the player with. They're "hard" but not in the same way as something like winning a nobel prize is hard.

This game is so hard that the developers apologized for it decades later
An adult can beat it without that much issue but the target audience was put into the torment nexus, with the biggest difficulty spike happening in the second level because Disney told the devs they had to make sure renters couldn't get more than X% of the way through the game in a single rental.
>>
>>748144156
Did someone say they didn't? Unless you're taking OPs image as indication. Although, one thing about them that makes them unmentioned beyond ignorance is that most of them aren't singular games and are either ports of franchise editions or play similarly enough that you may as well play their pc edition, at which point you can never "beat" it, so it feels weird to list a specific iteration, and the ones that are unique experiences are usaully not that difficult.

I'd probably say Persona 4 hard mode. I've definitely played stuff that's meant to be harder but I feel like Souls stuff is mostly fake difficulty. Base Persona 4 I felt they'd buffed up the stats of most enemies because of you being able to control your party now.
>>
>>748138968
That's a pretty good achievement. A lot of games people are bringing up are ones that are fake difficulty platformer shit. Stuff that you'll eventually push through with some luck. A cave 1all is pretty much always going to be based on skill, there's a lot of memorisation for a route but you need the ability to pull off that route.

1) Hollow Knight's difficulty depends on how much content you complete. If you just go for the normal ending - it's 0/10. If you do the final boss rush - it's 8/10
2) Cuphead is waaaaay harder than DS3, debatable but I think it's harder than Sekiro
3) I think Boshy is easier than Guy but that's because Boshy is a good game with working game mechanics while Guy is a shitpost
4) Bennet Foddy climbing game is harder than DS3 and maybe Sekiro

>I think Boshy is easier than Guy
Yes, they are not even close. Boshy is much harder. Even the original iwbtg dev sorta complained about how his game was only meant to be a funny troll game but then all these other people took it and made something much harder.
Boshy is a much more well polished and fun game overall anyway. I wish people didn't lump every similar looking game in with iwbtg because that one is honestly the least fun.
>Bennet Foddy climbing game is harder than DS3 and maybe Sekiro
eh, debatable. It gives the illusion of difficulty because you can lose hours of progress in an instant which might make you give up, but if you stick with it and learn the controls you will overcome it pretty easily. Game takes like 5-10 hours on your first playthrough and if you're going for the achievement to beat the game 50 times you will be beating it in 3 to 10 minutes by your 50th run because the game is actually really short. If you don't rage quit after messing up the first couple times it's very easy.

I remember being like 11 and getting epic yarn for the Wii because I liked canvas curse and mouse attack for the ds and being disappointed by how easy the game was. It took me like 1-2 days to complete the entire game and it was at no point was it any difficult and I probably didn't die once. Like I though the artstyle was a bit childish but I didn't think beforehand that the game was actually targeting toddlers/preschooler. I remember the King Dedede fight having an exploit where you could attack him when you weren't suppose too, making and easy boss ever easier.

Anyways here is some of the hardest games I've played
>DROD (King Dugan's Dungeon)
Not that bad for the first few levels, but I started to really struggle in level 7(?) when the worms got introduced, and there are still 18 more levels in the game, though from my experience the difficulty isn't always lineal as sometimes your really stuck with a few rooms in a level then the next level goes by fast as you never really get stuck on any room there. This is also the second easiest game in the series so I would guess some of the harder games are much more brutal too.
>La mulana
Played it together with a friend blindly and we beat it at our second shot at it. That took me about 55hours, but there was probably around 50 more hours for each of us when we first tried the game a few years ago and was able to get around 50-60% through the game then. I can't really image how people are playing this game blindly alone as I assume that would probably take around 100-200 hours.
>Battle Brothers
I have 250 hours on it and have never been close to even daring to fight the endgame battles. Probably not that bad if you use a guide.
>Underrail
Played it plenty in veteran and expert, but playing DOMANATING seems like torture, especially with the recent high enemy HP buff.
>Doom
Getting demos of either most normal maps in NM or slaughter maps in UV is pretty impressive. And the sky is the limit with custom Wads

The late game bonus levels where you ran around with Timon didn't give rewards on the PC version.
I had fun getting softlocked on the cave level. You can't progress further until you killed the hyenas but sometimes they'd fall off the ledges during a fight and remain at the bottom of the screen and don't reset even if you die.

>i don't understand how you're supposed to farm medals since you only get them when you beat your last score
This is where bashing your head into the wall and trying to figure out you might even start to improve your routing and general choices comes into play. I'm not even going to remotely pretend that I'm an expert on this subject, I've got about 500 hours recorded on Steam but a good chunk of that is it just idling while I try to rethink life. Shit like Keys being best grabbed via levels ASAP as later levels are more valuable, trying to feel out the general flow of the map, keeping TTKs low or pivoting to DEF when you notice the TTK thresholds requiring a lot more ATK than you have or are going to have available anytime soon, HP washing for score on some maps (and more generally, any map with Crowns and non-stat Potions are going to want you to save those Potions for later), figuring out what your Medals can get you that'll improve your next run in said map or elsewhere, etc.
You should be making very good notes on available Keys, Feathers, and Crowns if you aren't already, especially Keys. Where they are, how many are available and when they're available in your run (AKA not just the floor itself, but early/mid/late run due to enemy requirements or other bullshit), how many you're spending, and how many you're short by when you inevitably reach the next part of the map and find out you're short 40 fucking keys because of course you are, if that lock is even worth saving for, and rarely if you're over because that means you're either wasting levels or not grabbing enough locks.
Also Shift+1/2/3/4/5/6 shows a lot more data, found this out by keyboard mashing, and use Memories from 0.

It sure is, though it's a bit involved. Reminds me that I need to rerun it at some point, but I completely forgot my old routing so figuring it out again should be fun probably need to prioritize the giant set and atk shit at spawn. Depending on what DLC you have, Orbs, Equipment, Magic, Legacy and the like all greatly complicate shit as well and I'm barely scratching the surface with the latter two myself.
Lastly I do recall reading that there is a Discord for the game but I've never entered it, hell I've hardly even read the forums since I prefer trying to figure this shit out on my own, but the option is there if you need it. Fair warning that from what I've gathered the lead dev is a turbosperg and might just ban you for some schizo reason.

Oh, and just to clarify because I forgot to in either of my previous posts, what you're getting here are Sunstones, not Medals. Medals are the Bronze/Silver/Gold/etc shit you can use in the Nexus to unlock blocks there and grab other shit with. Sunstones are what you use when using the Sunwishers, primarily to boost your raw stats with.

Stellar Blade. I'm sure it would be possible to argue that games like Aurora 4x, Workers and Resources, War in the Pacific, Rule The Waves or some retro shit from the SNES era is harder, but I don't find any of those hard because I don't suck at them. Very much unlike games like Stellar Blade.

If I played a rhythm game I'd probably list that at the absolute top of my list of hardest games ever, but I've only played rhythm games as minigames inside other games such as for example in ZZZ and I don't think that counts.
>>
>>748137918
i don't consider dying a lot to make a game hard, it's just dying a lot
i do challenge runs of games where i run hardest difficulty with 0 upgrades and limit myself from using any exploitative strats but i wouldn't consider that making the game hard either
i also don't really consider it hard if the "difficulty" is just some aspect of catching the player with a trick they just need to learn to pass through, rather it has to be sustained execution and knowledge that applies generally, and there's just an overall challenge/endurance metric to it

probably metal gear rising: revengeance jetstream sam campaign revengeance difficulty vr04 is the hardest honest challenge in a game i've played, god hand on hard difficulty is pretty ballbusting too but there's nothing in that game as long as sam vr04

You can't meaningfully increase your general intelligence, but you can get better at specific cognitive tasks through training.

I played Jump King and I Wanna Be The Guy for like 20 minutes. I've played a bunch of NES games for an hour or two, as well. I just don't see why you'd push through such a difficult game for free. It's not fun. Do they even qualify as games at that point?
>>
>>748161530
But if we're talking about difficulty in the context of puzzle games, you're evaluating them on initial exposure.
Outside of market saturation of a particular type of puzzle game, they're not something that you can "get better at"

if you eat poorly, consistently, don't exercise regularly, overuse substances that inhibit your cognitive function like caffeine at above 400mg/day, you can make a substantial improvement in your general intelligence by changing those habits
subjecting yourself to critical thinking challenges in general will also force you to use your brain, strengthening it no differently from a muscle with weight training
in other words, eat decent meals regularly, do cardio, play the island of dr. brain every day, don't overdose on caffeine, you will become substantially more intelligent in only a few months

Metal Slug is a terrible example for what you're trying to get at. All good arcade games had a difficulty ramp to onboard new players but then get them off the machine within 5 mins. However the difference between "hard" and "bullshit" is when it's not really about skill but rote memorisation and quite frankly abusing mechanics, which Metal Slug requires neither. Sure, autists memorise a "route" but you don't have to. You can survive until the timer runs out on every boss just by dodging well.
Bullshit is like Smash TV where no matter how good your reactions, no matter how autistically you plan your routing, no matter how well you manage your resources you will just die when the boss bum rushes you at random at a speed faster than you can move.
