The benefits of OLED exist, but they're most noticeable at night, and OLEDs don't get very bright.
I recently had to buy a new TV because the old Samsung we were using wouldn't do proper HDR. I wasn't going to have spent weeks of my time and a thousand bucks on the Jellyfin server without a proper screen to enjoy it on.
Instead of OLED, I went with a TCL MiniLED, and it's honestly nearly as good when calibrated. The brightness and HDR beat every OLED even double the price, and the blacks are nearly perfect with only a faint ghosting that's hard to notice in all but the darkest of scenes.

Since I try to use screens less at night, I do need the extra brightness for proper daytime gaming on the TV, so I don't see why I would get an OLED unless the TV is in a room that gets very little light to begin with. It's a good technology, and I'm happy with my Steam Deck OLED and Wuhanhelds with OLED screens, but I don't see why I'd want a TV or computer monitor like that when current MiniLED is basically just as good and doesn't have any of the downsides.

I don't have an issue with blacks on my IPS during normal view. It only looks bad in fully black screens since I can see the edges bleeding light.
I've never used an OLED before, so ignorance is bliss I guess, but I do have a Plasma TV which has better blacks than IPS and it still doesn't bother me.

Calibration sucks ass because the vast majority of monitors do not have all the necessary parameters to properly do it. So then you are limited to using an ICC profile and guess what ignores ICC profiles completely? Video games.
There's also the problem of clamping a wide gammut display - like all OLED - to a proper sRGB space, otherwise the colors are all very saturated on 99% of the content.
The usual best course of action is to the built-in sRGB clamping mode that most modern monitors have. This mode more often than not comes factory calibrated, with some having a better calibration than others.

You don't notice it because most games don't have pitch black scenes in them.
Your eyes adjust to LCD blacks pretty easy and you don't notice they're glowing.
Now does Oled look better? Marginally.
You also lose ghosting because it's pixels are hyper responsive.
BUT.
VRR flicker. This is fucking awful. If you have gsync enabled and play a game that exceeds your refresh rate in FPS you will get VRR flicker constantly. Don't believe what people say that you won't notice it, you fucking do notice it. It's like someone trying to induce an epileptic seizure in you.
Your screen will need constant pixel refreshes and often a much longer screen refresh that takes hours. Probably once a month or two.
Pixel shifting can actually be bad for games.
Oh but worst of all?
Burn in still happens.
A lot.
On every screen.
YOU WILL GET BURN IN.
It may be 3 to 5 years down the line but you will get it. I had my old LCD IPS for 10 years without any issues and it still works great now that I've given it to someone else.
Meanwhile I know that in 3 to 5 years this Oled will have a permanent burn in mark that cannot be removed that will ruin it.
Oh and expect much shorter times than that if you don't have dark mode on everything and have it on extremely low brightness. I have mine at 30 brightness and a full windows modded dark theme and I still needed a pixel refresh 2 weeks after I bought the monitor.
The one I bought is the newest tandem oled screen by the way. These are meant to reduce all the problems of previous oled screens but it really doesn't.
Personally the more I use oled the more I realize it's a gimmick.

If you can fit a media only display into your setup, yes. if you're going to have to hack it into a work monitor, no.

I love my OLED. My 2nd monitor is an LCD and it looks like complete dogshit in comparison. Anyone who hates OLED either got a Temu model or is sour grapes.

False. High refresh rates allow smoother frame presentation regardless of frame rate. If you have a 60hz monitor and your frame rate is 60fps exactly with a straight line frame time graph then you're fine, if there is any inconsistency at all in frame times, a high refresh monitor with provide a smoother picture as a slightly late frame only has to wait a fraction of the time to be displayed rather than a full 16ms. I had a 100hz display I was using until recently and the difference in smoothness now at 240hz even at 100fps or less is significant.

Perceived lightness/blackness level is relative to the luminance of the room you are in. In other words, you'll struggle to notice a difference in black level between panels in a bright room versus those same panels in a dark room. That IPS gray mostly disappears in daylight.

I believe it has to do with how the big panels are cut that leads to an abundance of 1440p screens. So it's not that companies are aiming for it, it just ends up being that way.

I have mine set to 8 hours as well and I have never gotten a pop up once. I'm never sat there gaming for 8 hours straight without getting up from my desk, and pixel cleaning begins automatically when I'm away for a few minutes. My average interval is around 4 hours.

Samsung is pretty cool with its cleaning cycles, it starts it silently when you quit a +4h use session. You will never even notice it unless you turn the display on again right after that, then you just get a message about how the refresh was not finished.

Mini LED and OLED do the same thing and both have had their downsides minimized to the point where it's basically unnoticeable. You'll probably get a longer life out of a Mini LED, but better image on OLED in certain edge cases where you have a black screen with very sparse content. Edge lit IPS is still "good enough" for most people imo, but I'm a white slave to a Chinese display manufacturer and you know, the shoe maker's kid has no shoes or however that saying goes.
