Which genre had the hardest fall into the modern state of enshittification?
>>
Action adventure

Daily reminder that all tloufags need to rope
>>
>>748161549
Hardest fall would be RTS games because they fell hard in popularity and a lot of games copy the big games in the genre, platformer games haven't really innovated so they're stagnant, sports games remain as bad as ever so it never fell, hardest enshittification would probably be simulator games because people want quick bucks on Steam with shit like "GROCERY STORE SIMULATOR" or whatever, bonus if it uses AI slop graphics
>>
>>748161549
Either FPS or Action Adventure Games

But honestly all of them have been fucked, some of the genres are outright dead.
>>
All games are action adventure RPGs now. Every other genre had died.

>enshittification would probably be simulator games because people want quick bucks on Steam with shit like "GROCERY STORE SIMULATOR" or whatever, bonus if it uses AI slop graphics
Those aren't really simulators though. Actual simulators as in flight/racing have probably actually gotten better (in some areas).
>>
Roguelikes had the hardest fall but people won't admit it
>>
>>748161549
Platform games
Side scrolling
On rail shooting
Beat em ups not to be confused with fighting games
Rts is dead
Top down rpg or top down any type of games. God of war was a visual feast and fun to watch now it's just a 3rd person over the shoulder game.
>>
>>748161549
Platfomring games no one here even remembers them>>748161987
This is true
>>
>>748161987
This is true every game is just the same. They do reserch on what people like and do so everything is the same. All fps games control the same. Pretty soon all games will just be ether vr games or just remakes. It's the end of innovation in video games
>>
>>748162067
There are just so many coming out now but like 80% are garbage, 15% are ok and the final 5% are absolute hidden gems
>>
>>748163024
0% of them are hidden gems, it's a bad genre for pseuds now
>>
Fighting Games for me personally. Motion inputs have been overly simplified and the entire roster now follows that set core of limited inputs so everyone plays exactly the same with minimal risks. They then toss on a bunch of universal mechanics everyone shares that can be abused beter by certain characters so the combat system no longer revolves strictly around character choice and the unique tools they offer but which characters can abuse the universal tools better.

I knew it was over when I saw someone on here complaining that Avatar had too much character variety and the game should have just been a standard air dasher where everyone had the same tools.

Racing. because it’s not even fucking there anymore

Ok i'll admit its 6 years old but this is one of the most addicting games i have ever played
>>
>>748163249
Its quite silly how racing has now moved into the sim genre with everyone trying to make it more and more realistic as time goes by, to the point people are building whole ass rigs that even have manual gearboxes and clutch pedals

Platfotmers because they went in the exact opposite direction. Everyone wants to be Mario Odyssey now where you can do a bunch of air stalling and jump extending tricks in the air where you basically skip the entire level. Indie platformer games try to emulate 2D Sonic games and let you fly off a ramp so you can just float across the entire level. Then you get shit that's a mix of both like Penny's Big Breakaway and wonder why they even hired a level designer and people to work on level hazards gimmicks and obstacles if the entire game was clearly designed on the idea of doing all your tricks to ignore the ground.

I ended up watching some Minecraft obby videos and was amazed how fun it was to just fucking run and jump with your only influence being changing your direction and distance and you were at the mercy of a the level layouts and hazards like there being a long gap, a narrow platform, slippery floor, bouncy floor, sticky floor and all other tyoes of hazards.
>>
>>748162067
Roguelikes were always shit
>>
>>748161549
why is the image so small
>>
>>748161549
Unquestionably FPS.
>>
>>748161549
FPS games are a disaster these days. They are either live garbage or tranny autist boomer shooters.

>Genre that devolved into a miserable nightmare when they were once on top of the world 20+ years ago, true, absolute enshittification
Multiplayer FPS
Online Multiplayer games in general, going from the players having freedom, to being controlled by the publisher with everything on lockdown

>Genre that died because of shit decisions by everyone, appealing to a niche 1%, stripping away anything actually fun in favor of competition
RTS
>Genres constantly on death's door because it is doing the same kind of shit as the above, but only hang on by specific lingering appeals
Fighting
MMO
>Genre that got bloated with a lot of cookie-cutter nonsense and busywork, chasing minor trends caused by each viral hit
Adventure / RPG
Most damning of all, everything has RPG mechanics tacked on to them.
>Genres that faded from popularity, became minigames in other genres, or are just carrying on while playing to their audience
Rail Shooters, Shmups, Rhythm Games, Racing Games, many others...
>Genre that is hot now because they are easy to make, so there are a shitload of them, and obviously nearly all will be shit
Roguelikes
>>
>>748161549
Lacks the games I play.
Where is survival like Raft or Greenhell?
Where are the Management Games?
Where are the cozy farming games ala Stardew?
Where are the Colony Sims?
Why does /v/ hate good games?
>>
>>748161549
>fall
racing games probably, maybe fighters. most other genres were awful from the start.
>>
>>748162945
>its the end of innovation

Not really. The same design choices that produce genre homogeneity in videogames can be reversed to define genre distinction in videogames.
>>
>>748161549
MMOs are going to die in this lifetime
>>
>>748164918
zero iq faggotbrain take
>>
>>748165224
yeah, the mmo as a genre has already died like 15 years ago
>>
Survival Horror is such a meme genre. It doesn't even impy survival like Forest and Darkwood. It's just "games likes Resident Evil" (not AitD for some reason).
But everyone has a boner for RE so it's ok. Even though it's a meme forced by Mikami and he tried to force the meme of Panic Horror with Dino Crisis as well, except it didn't work out and DC is just RE with dinos.
>>
RPGs are honestly in an awful situation right now. RPG elements have been taken on by everything else but true RPGs are rare, and usually really gay.
>>
>>748165519
Play Skald
>>
Racing. Nothing but crappy sim racers anymore.
>>
>>748161549
Action adventure. Love the genre to death in its classic forms but Sony has absolutely dragged that one through the mire.
>>
hentai games
>>
>>748165458
Survival horror is just old-school action adventure with an M rating.
>>
>>748164223
FPS was always a shit genre just due to how little variety it had. There's so much that could be done with the medium but nope, let's just only ever focus on multiplayer and linear campaigns or wave based survival. God forbid an indie dev wants to try their hand at a shooter. For some reason every indie shooter fumbles their post-launch roadmap. I'm convinced the genre is cursed at this point.
>>
>>748166157
Goldeneye's objectives scaling with the difficulty is the actual best idea that game had.
>>
>>748165583
Great game. Reminds me of OSR.

roguelikes
how in god's name is balatro a roguelike
>>
>>748166157
Onirism is so much fun when it clicks, but man that game needs an actual dev team.
>>
>>748166505
It's ackshually a roguelite, ,which is what most games in genre fall under.
>>
>>748162001
Actual simulators are better than ever regarding accuracy and technology, too bad that the devs usually forget to pack and actual gameplay experience to go with it.
>>
>>748163641
Too bad the tranny indie devs don't understand that in Super Mario Odyssey you actually have to touch the ground when you play the game. Donkey Kong Bananza and Astro Bot also understood this. Platformers made by real developers still get it right. Indie platformers have always sucked ass, the spikes-everywhere slop of 10 years ago was also absolute dogshit.
>>
>>748161549
The only answer is sports games. The variety of games and the quality in gameplay and technology between the 6th gen and today is not even comparable. Raped genre.
