>solid state storageExtremely based. N64 Cartridges store the save files on the cartridge itself instead of on your console. More consoles should do this.>You need a special custom Nintendo tool to open the cartridgeCringe. Why not use normal screws like everyone else.>Some cartridges need a save battery to save, and it is soldered into the circuitboardCringe. Why do it like this. You need a solder to replace the battery. Totally unnessecary extra work.>The RAM is a replaceable component that completes the circuit and it only comes in two types, the normal 4 MB RAM and the 8 MB RAM expansion pak that is only used in two gamesWhat the heck was the point of this.>There is a voice analyzing microphone you can buy that is used in like one gameLol.

snoygger thread
Cartridges were a mistake after the 16-bit generation.
>>748165789A bunch of games support the 8MB expansion.
>>748166238Retard. Ever leaving cartridges was the mistake that permanently ruined vidya. That's why you need 3000 GB of RAM now because reading anything off a disc takes fucking forever.
The ram expac was required for two games but it made a lot of others run better too plus it was free with dong kong so why not
>>748166615Retard, discs lowered prices for customers to a remarkable degree, allowed devs to have significant growth and create the best games possible and is responsible for the golden age of gaming.>muh access timessomething also improved over time thanks to developers having to figure out how to get the most out of discs. N64 games also had load times.
>>748166926>the golden age of gamingThat would be earlier than when discs became the primary media used.
>>748167042Only a dumb nigger would think that.
>>748167094Games prior to CDs had less movieshit, they were just actual games.
>>748167042>>748167094For me the golden age was just before and after discs. So like late 90s and early 2000s lol.
>>748167194>oiiii there's fmvsNot beating the dumb nigger accusations.>>748167209All genres reached their potential during the era of discs, and often due to the fact they were printed on discs and built for disc based systems.
>>748167370>this retard actually believes 2D platformers benefited from discslmao.
>>748167437I'm running a dumb nigger exposition factory and you're my best export.
>>748167557>one inferior sequel to a Super Famicom gameFucking lol.
>>748167597Keep it up dumb nigger, I'm loving the shit taste on display.
>>748167649Quite possibly the most obvious case of an inferior sequel to a Super Famicom game. Lol indeed.
>>748165789A make fun of wolverine thread died for this
>>748167716About all the proof anyone needs to determine you're a dumb nigger.
>>748166615you need 3000GB of RAM now because the devs are lazy and retarded
>>748168012You would still need it because "cartridges" in a post switch world are just really shitty and slow sd cards.
>>748165960How the hell is Hey You Pikachu the best game?
A lot of these strange decisions probably were connected to the fallout of the 64DD's constant delays and failures. They had to future-proof the console for whatever the 64DD ended up becoming. The entire situation was poorly thought out.
>>748165789>The RAM is a replaceable component that completes the circuit and it only comes in two types, the normal 4 MB RAM and the 8 MB RAM expansion pak that is only used in two gamesTbh I also kinda wonder about this. Was RAM really that expensive that selling an upgrade later on separately was worth it? Were they planning on doing more upgrades?Games actually got plenty of mileage out of this because 4MB is nothing (even some games that could run without expansion pak had expansion pak enhancement modes).Checking Wikipedia apparently it was supposed to be more for the 64DD. Given how many weird decisions were motivated by somehow getting this piece of shit to work and then bailing halfway through every time, I wonder what the original vision was supposed to be.
>>748166238no, the mistake was Nintendo abandoning the 64DD. The n64 was supposed to use magnetic discs for cheaper projects, and cartridges + magnetic disc for big budget games. Developers and publishers didn't abandon Nintendo for sticking to carts, it was because they dropped support for the cheaper alternative by delaying the 64DD.
>>748171910This was also dogshit but Nintendo made their bed and got fucked in it during the 90s.
