Are you a spreadsheet or adventure RPG type of guy?
Those two aren't mutually exclusive
If I have to build my chacter before starting the game and learning what anything actually does, I am not playing the game.Oblivion was especially bad, in that you could fuck yourself over by choosing the skills you want to use the wrong way.
>>748166208i like when the spreadsheet influences the adventureso TES is shit, and pathfinder is based
>>748166418>chactercharacter*
>>748166418there is no fucking yourself over in TES games, they are all pretty casual and forgiving
>>748166208I like having control over my stats, I like having those stats actually matter, I like having the option to make ungodly monsters if you're smart enough about how you invest your levels, I like fun and interesting perks that create diverse, interesting yet powerful builds that play in different ways depending on how you invest. But what I absolutely hate are those retarded skill orb tree things like what you see in final fantasy 10 or spreadsheet bullshit like in your Pic I want a happy medium between a game not being dulled down retard slop for lobotomites and also not requiring a 3 hour Wikipedia study session just to figure out how the stats and ganeplay work before I pick up a controller.
>>748166517No hes right about oblivion, the way the level scaling works you can seriously screw yourself over late game if you dont properly choose your skills and level correctly, unless you're on the easiest difficulty in which case everything gets 1 shot anyway.
>>748166208I like modding Skyrim and Morrowind so they have systems like the top. Except not based on DnD's garbage system.
Spreadsheets are gay.
Both. What kind of retard limits themselves?
>>748166208adventure I frankly like Fallout 3 and NV system the most, when it comes to levels, skills, but I guess you could say that it makes character overpowered and skilled in everything too easily. But this is more of a balancing question and question if you want that to happen or not in the first place.
>>748166736"fucking yourself over" makes me think you softlocked yourself in oblivion even with the most suboptimal build the only thing that changes is how long it takes to whittle away enemy HP
>>748166208I enjoyed CRPGs that aren't spreadsheets, like Fallout 1
>>748166929Well yeah, its not a softlock, but it makes the combat miserable if you dont abuse the everloving shit out of some of the more busted mechanics, basically properly building and leveling a character keeps you able to play "as devs intended" for as long as possible on higher difficulties.
>>748166418>this meme againAttributes don't matter that much, skills do. Efficient leveling just turns the game into a slog and you won't even be that more powerful.Just play it like a normal person.
>>748166208>adventure RPGI like to have fun playing games
>>748166208I would be a spreadsheet guy, but said "spreadsheets" are just min/maxing perks and skills and magical abilities to get a +1% to semen retention to kill enemies even more easily.Get me some RPGs with logistics and managing a party's ability to even continue forward for a long haul.A fucking Oregon Trail of RPGs.
Skill points and allocations and all that shit was always kinda stupid to meThe way elder scrolls and i guess runescape does it makes the most sense, you level your skills by using them like how it works IRL.
>>748166208bottom isnt an rpg
>>748166418>If I have to build my chacter before starting the game and learning what anything actually does, I am not playing the game.I agree with this these days. I have no patience for wiki research before playing a game.Sometimes I do when I replay a game I like to go for an optimal or funnier build build but on normal difficulty anything that isn't extremely retarded should be viable.
