At the cost and budget, the "Break even" point where they did all that work to essentially make no money but just get their money back later (And simultaneously damage the brands of insomniac games and marvel and wolverine) is roughly 7 million

1.9 million is nothing

So its projected based on that to sell anywhere between 4.7 mill to 9.5 mill roughly.

>In the first year
No it needs 7 mill to break even period, even they received every single penny from sales which they don't. Its probably more akin to 10 million sales to comfortably break even.

A product you invested years of resources and 300 million USD into, returning the money you invested after being a bit of a brand damager after a year or so, was a fuck awful use of time and money

Odyssey actually made bank though, $1.68billion on $250m budget and $150m marketing, that's just cinmea too, streaming and home market will bring in even more.
Videogames are very front loaded, you make most of the money in the first month, they need to make ~4million more sales before the end of october or it's very unlikely they'll hit the 7m needed to break even.

If they were truly comparable, Wolverine would have sold through 12 million in just preorders

Spiderman 2 sold 2.5M in 24 hours, so why is 1.9M in 3 days supposed to be impressive?
>>
>>748211835
This is literally not real due to the 1.9 million numbers coming from non-official sources that base off their data on telemetry, on active users and etc.
They are forgetting about stuff like canceled pre-orders.
In contrast Spider-Man 2 sold 2.5 million in its first 24 hours just due to brand power and good faith from the people who bought it.
Really hoping Wolverine doesn't get to 6 million at the end of the year, so that Disney can cancel the exclusivity deal with Sony on X-Men and then get the IP go multi-platform so that other devs can do X-Men games and produce an actual banger.
Shame that Sony still has that exclusivity deal with Spider-Man to 2030. I want more stuff like Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions or the old Ultimate Spider-Man.

People are angry because it's the same shit we've been playing since the 360/PS3 days with a shiny coat of paint, ugly characters and a "deep and mature" story. It's $300m budget and 5 years of dev time have done nothing new or exciting to move the genre forward. It's become a target because it's emblematic of the fatigue gamers feel towards the AAA game industry never using the money they throw at games to do anything new or innovative and instead just throwing money into a giant stagnant swamp of played out ideas and tired gameplay mechanics.

>>748211889
From my rough estimations, taking 305 million budget (it's more with advertising), a 70$ price tag (it's more outside the US) and removing a 35% store cut, for the sake of accounting as if they were physical sales, it'd need around 6.7 million copies sold to break even and recoup costs.
Obviously in the real world around 60% of sales will be digital, so no 35% retailer cut and no physical costs, and you have to take countries outside the US where they charge more money at conversion rates than in US dollars because fuck them.
>>
>>748218075
not even that, IMAX is completely overhyped by Nolan fanboys. They say shit like "most detailed camera ever", but at the end of the day it's pretty much just more screen
Which is nice, but nothing groundbreaking
>>
>>748218238
Also don't forget that sales outside US/Can/Aus/Western EU are -70% price due to regional pricing.
>>
>>748218238
dont forget that marvel takes 20% cut
>>
>>748218380
I thought it was 40%. And they need to sell at least 6 million to keep the damn license, as well.
>>
>>748218295
It's the most detailed film camera for moving pictures.
It's not more detailed than digital
It's not more detailed than film cameras for stills

It's really a load of codswallop - when IMAX first started it was the only moving picture camera with fine enough detail toreally take advantage of the size of the screen, but that's not been true for 20 years.
>>
>>748211835
That is a verified flop on a 300m budget.
>>
>>748218238
Marvel also takes a 30% cut of all sales. Insomniac is fucked on this one
>>
>>748212540

>>748211889
6 million roughly. But that’s misleading. Any form of investment is always being compared to the scenario where you simply leave your money in the bank gaining basic interest in the process.
So it should achieve something like 7-8 million to be considered OK investment. Sales are highest during the first week and that’s also where the preorders are calculated.
They won’t reach 7 million sold copies even in one year.

The publisher typically takes 30%, and distributors and retailers take up to 15% depending on the marketplace.
Sony is the publisher, so it's not really that relevant in this case, but still.
In Wolverine's case, there are also licensing cuts. Marvel (Disney) takes a piece of the pie as well.

The game's first party, and the split with Disney is pretty advantageous for Sony, provided they meet their agreed-upon sales.

For physical copies, the revenue boils down to ~ $40 per copy.
For digital copies, the revenue boils down to close to ~ $60 per copy.

They've made ~100 million net, even if we are being generous with the data and their claims, so it's looking pretty grim.
Even Sony, with its own projections, pretty much spelled out that the game would need to sell 7.8 million copies to break even, assuming marketing costs are bundled into the $305 budget.
>>
>>748214962
Don't forget, physical sales only see a 20% return.
>>
>>748211835
Those numbers are made up by some random "analyst". Those numbers are far below what the game needs to sell. Making that game was very expensive and Marvel wants their cut as well.

>>748226136
I'm never gonna play this game but the other main problem besides the bland move set is how long the cooldowns are, from what I understand. So not like Bam Ham or even Spiderman combat where you'd be spamming special moves and gadgets all day, instead you can maybe do each move once per encounter

From what I can tell, the $305m doesn't include marketing. And since publishers of AAA typically spend on marketing roughly 75-100% of the amount of the production budget, Wolverine's actual cost is almost certainly well north of $500m.
Fine for Spider-Man games that sell 18m copies. For Wolverine? They're fucked.

I think X-Men Origins Wolverine did it perfectly by basically making Sabertooth into Vergil, and giving him all the same abilities Wolverine had.

Salary. Their studios are located in places where salary is high, and since they're also incompetent and slow, Sony's money gets sucked dry. Which is a good thing. The slower these guys take to ship out a game, the better it is for us because Sony still has to have them on payroll despite having nothing to show for it.

It was made for a very specific audience.
>The audience that fights tooth and nail to insist "chuds" are the problem.
>The audience that doesn't really care for the source material.
>The audience that denies "enshittification" and makes everything political.
>The audience ITT still defending bad decisions.
There was an opportunity to support this game, and it didn't even break even. This is because of a profound truth:
>Shit games don't sell.
It doesn't matter your "side" or your political ideology. It didn't matter if this had the backing of a small indie company or a mega corporation backed by SBI. Small budget or large. Force the hand of the industry to Start making good games again, Hire talent, and to Stop the performative nonsense. These sales reflect that pushback.
>>
>>748238014
Nah this has been the norm for a while, directors will often push for it if the company can afford it. Game Freak did this when they were working on Diamond and Pearl for example, it's a really good excuse for a free trip
>>
>>748239202
It was supposed to be for everyone. That’s why there are so many accessibility options and censorship options, parts that basically play themselves, and the simplest combat imaginable that only gives you a decent challenge if you play on the hardest possible difficulty. The problem is that when you make a game for everyone, it ends up being for no one.
>>
>>748239467
I really enjoy that the journos are complaining about all the baby shit that we've been annoyed by for like 15 years by now

>only one way to go during Uncharted climbing "challenges" (this has been in literally every AAA game)
>Batman detective vision instead of natural clues where to go (this has been in literally every AAA game)
But they made the stink vision permanent instead of activatable with a button and THAT'S what suddenly made every journo who can barely even play vidya realize that accessibility options are made by retarded DEI hires to please no one

There's also how it's not just linear but aggressively so.
Random explosions warning and then killing you if you stray off the path. But it only shows a scrapped together way of hiding the big levels with details and collision outside of where you're intended to go. They had big areas, cut them down to zones you can't get lost in and kept in guidance because they are still very accessible and the levels break if you ignore it.
Hell the levels even break if you ignore enemies and skip fights. You just get invisible walls to prevent returning but the next section doesn't load until enemies are dead so you just get stuck at a door it refuses to interact with.
You either play the game exactly as intended or the whole thing break. Real AAA quality.
>>
>>748239697
I will be honest I think they are just dunking on this game as a way to show their frustration with Sony without saying they are frustrated at Sony in some roundabout way.

Nah the situation is different. MH is a franchise that actually has people caring about how it plays, and Wilds is just fucking dogshit at its core. It was less negative word of mouth and more like the nu-MH fanbase (chinks+normalfags) actually have standards and rejected the game. Sony movieslop audiences don't have those standards. Wolverine is just as bad as their other moviegames so it being "bad" online does nothing because the dad gamers who buy this slop in droves don't even know it's being trashed online.

Look man, you don't know how low the standards are for dad gamers. Millions of them bought both Horizon games. They bought every Destiny 2 expansion. Wolverine is rated 4.73 on the Playstation store. They don't give a shit if it's buggy, or if it's generic, or if it controls weird, or if it's worse than other moviegames.
>>
>>748252789
Thats because the "3 day" total was actually all shipped to retailers, digital copies, and all preorders up to 3 days after release

So we'll see that Sony congratulations message any day now, right?
>>
>>748253086
>the nu-MH fanbase (chinks+normalfags) actually have standardsand rejected the game.
I disagree with that. It's a bit contradictory to say the game was rejected, despite selling 11 million copies initially, but saying word of mouth played a lesser role with sales plunging afterward.
Those 11M sales are likely the result of normalfags mass buying the game in the first place. (I doubt any old school MH fans could pull those numbers, both due to sheer volume and that not all of them would be on board for what wilds had to offer.)
And if normalfags don't have the insight to reject a bad game before they buy it, there is no reason the next batch of normalfags, coming after launch, wouldn't also buy that game while ignoring what other people have to say about it.

For like a year you couldn't buy a ps5 unless it was from a scalper or the Horizon forbidden west bundle

$140 million while the budget was like $300 million.

and breaking even is still a flop, because then you just wasted a lot of time and manpower you could've put elsewhere.
you don't pay 100 bucks for a shopping stand, make 110 and say it was worth it.

The gamestop near me had to throw in a second controller, a controller charging stand, and Elden Ring to get those Horizon ps5 bundles to move.
I wish we could see how many sales of Horizon forbidden west were because of elden ring and ps5 consoles

there aint no dang way this shit sells another 3 million copies unless they severely price cut it for black friday (and then that number needs to climb even higher since they're gonna be selling them on discount). All just so that they can give their investors their money back.

They should have delayed it until next year. Regardless of the quality of the game - much of which is being parroted by people who haven’t played it (and is being grifted to death by disingenuous streamers, many of whom are more than happy to shill 2K, Fortnite and movieslop) - it was always going to become the fall guy for Sony’s shitty business decisions.

What gives me a good kek is that it’s spiritually very similar to the Origins Wolverine game, which “gamers” are quick to dick ride as LE HECKIN HIDDEN PS3 ERA GEM, BRING BACK MUH NOSTALGIC LINEAR ACTION GAMES!

you really think Sony won't do anything to piss off people next year?
>>
>>748211835
They're selling copies for $1.9 million?! They'll make that budget up in no time!

>If a game looks interesting to you, do your own research instead of blinding trusting people that are no better than paid marketers
That was never the practice tho. You retards always gobble up reviews like the little sluts you are the second they align with your preconceived opinions.

You're forgetting Disney takes 30 up to 50% of that

>Alinea Analytics
The game is almost a week old, and not a peep about its sales from Sony. Also, Alinea is not reliable. Their estimates are based off of Playstation Store or Xbox Store reviews.

OP knows that, he's paid 500 rupees a day to spread propaganda on /v/. The tragic part is how 80% of the retards here are falling for it.

Do they not know that zelda is a video game and you can't spend that in real life?
>>
>>748267352
The reviews on psn are botted by Sony themselves btw. You won't find a single Sony game with a bad score on there.

Pretty sure they need to sell 3 million to break even. I'm not even sure those numbers include marketing and licensing lol.
