>>748220531You'd need a pretty high level. Just in your picture alone, we're looking at N1 words like 破壊, かきまわす, and 生かす, as well as non-JLPT compounds like 攻撃力 and なみだもろい. The grammar also sits at a high level (せいか = N2, 〜たことがない = N3, etc.). All of that is just one character description. The required level theoretically sits at native, so maybe 2+ years of intensive study. You'll still need a dictionary and time, though.

Ironically kanji makes things easier to parse and less ambiguous, e.g. 今もなみだもろい; if you didn't know the adjective 脆い(もろい) already then you might think it's the particle も followed by a nonexistent adjective ろい because lol who needs spaces in their writing system.The vocabulary in FFX is quite simple and more importantly the grammar is mostly orthodox. By contrast, games like Like A Dragon set in the modern day are an absolute nightmare because people will have actual real Japanese names that you have to learn to read, but also they'll speak in a transcribed realistic style of speech that slurs everything together and that you won't be able to look up in a dictionary (though an AI will handle it no problem). You won't find the verb "conjugation" ~とけ in Jisho for instance, but this is short for ~ておけ, i.e. the imperative form of ~ておく, meaning "I'd do ~ if I were you". And that's just a very simple example. And any time you start seeing katakana-isms like おぉ or しょー in hiragana then prepare yourself for pain. But hey hiragana is easy right? Not like those evil scary kanji.

Final Fantasy X presents just about every linguistic challenge a learner could face. The dialogue is very challenging. Is it as challenging as Yakuza? No, but it's still up there.Obviously, it's a non-issue if you're using AI to assist, but we're at the point where AI can decode any form of dialogue.
