In Disco Elysium, if the player has chosen dialogue expressing suicidal thoughts enough times throughout the game AND tells the Lillienne Twins it's okay to kill yourself, they receive the Finger on the Eject Button thought. Its description states that every evening past 21:00 going forward the player will have the "idea" to kill themselves if they have a loaded gun. Despite this, no such option appears. Because the way to obtain this is so obscure and it's only obtained at the very end of the game, there is virtually no discussion about this discrepancy online, but I've discovered a cut game over in the data files that seems to indicate this path was once functional:

>NewspaperEndgame("SUICIDE_THOUGHT","COP FINALLY KILLS HIMSELF","An officer of the RCM ended his own life yesterday with a single shot. His death came as something of a surprise to those who knew him, as he'd threatened to kill himself on many previous occasions.\n\n "The people who talk about killing themselves all the time aren't usually the ones that do it," said Officer Judit Minot, friend and colleague of the deceased.\n\n "The job gets to people in different ways," said Officer Mack Torson, another colleague. "Now they're going to start talking about improving counselling services for officers of the RCM again. But, to be honest, I don't think counselling would have helped him."")

In the earliest public release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty there were remnants of the old unused map named "Training Simuator" (also known as TSimulator), later reworked into "StarCraft Master" arcade map. It was designed to be accessible from the Hyperion but they canned the idea late in the development. It was half finished, but is practically the same as the arcade map. Funnily enough, they released it only 2 years after the game release.

There are remnants from a scrapped story branch where the player could stay loyal to UNATCO. Despite being cut early on, numerous lines of dialogue unique to this path remain accessible in game.

>After Paul sends you to install the NSF transmitter you can return to Paul at the 'Ton Hotel without sending the signal (you only have to pick up the evidence data cube). This triggers unique dialogue where you refuse to betray UNATCO, but nothing actually happens and the game can't be advanced unless you go install it.

>At the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard the military personnel in the Wall Cloud control room have alternate unused dialogue being gracious and complementary to JC. This conversation can be accessed through datamining or by using the Shifter mod and changing the player's character model.

In FF2, there's a scene where Guy speaks to beavers. This exists because they originally had him speak to moogles, but they hadn't finalized the moogle design yet, so they replaced them with beavers. Moogles debuted in FF3 instead.

Policenauts has a segment in it, where you're trapped in an area with artificial, robotic mosquitos. In the PS1 version, there is a bug that causes the game to crash if you were to save and load during this segment, effectively creating a bricked save. To prevent this, they simply disabled the ability to save during this segment. The fan translation patch fixes this.

The three dots on Marina's face are confirmed by the designer to be piercings, not moles. This character detail is somewhat anachronistic for the time period that Fear & Hunger 2: Termina takes place in, because it was kept as a holdover from an earlier version of the character designed for a hypothetical modern day F&H game.

In the Argonne Forest TDM map in Battlefield 1, there's a spot on the map edge near the bridge where you can run out of bounds around a large rock with about a tenth of a second to spare as long as you sprint the whole time and finish with a bayonet rush. This can be used to flank opponents who have no expectation of being attacked from this direction.

In the original Dragon's Dogma, there is a kiss and fade-to-black implied sex scene with the player's "beloved" during the ending. The player's beloved is whatever NPC the player talked to the most during the game, and there was zero filter in the original release. The most talked-to NPCs are always going to be merchants and innkeepers, who are almost all male, so most players suddenly got blasted with an out-of-nowhere gay scene during the ending. But it gets worse, there are also children in the game and, even though there is zero reason to talk to them with any frequency, the beloved system itself gives zero fucks, so if you spend the whole game spam talking to a child NPC, the "beloved" ending scene plays with a kid.

For slightly less obscure but more fun Battlefield 1 trivia, it is actually possible to kill opponents with your gasmask.
It's tricky to achieve, and the method almost seems like a deliberate reference to gay gimp rape. First, you need a club melee weapon; short blades and long blades don't seem to work. Next, you need to find an oblivious prone player (this is not hard to find, as there are always 2-5 sniper larpers in every server who are probably listening to music or watching something on a second monitor).
Now you have to go prone as well and crawl directly between the player's legs and bury your face in the player's ass. Having done that, start putting on and removing your gasmask while hammering the melee attack button. It generally doesn't work at first, but after a few mask transitions you will start pounding with your phallic object ferociously into the player's ass and after three good pipings you'll get the kill, which is attributed to your gasmask. This is actually programmed into the game.

Idk how useless the information is but before Risk of Rain 2 was handed over to Gearbox, Hopoo already had 5 characters they were working on before they dropped the project. One of them was the Cheif and he was apparently the most functional with the only thing missing being a few animations.

Gearbox scrapped all of the characters after their first update to the game and has refused to elaborate or explain what they were going to do with them.

Here's some bonus trivia.
If you are ever playing Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis, you can recruit the 2nd best named character in the game by recruiting a female-fire element-chaotic nature and naming her Deneb. Once this character reaches level 10 they will automatically turn into a unique Witch who will have the best charm skill in the game and the highest natural magic value in the game.

In Haunting Ground/Demento, there's a very silly way to make Daniella teleport in a room. There's a puzzle where you have to check the differences between two rooms, and it's in the room to the right where you find said differences. If you pick a wrong option, the room's door will be locked, but if you pick a right option, it'll unlock. Inside that room, there's a closet, and Daniella will be inside of it and stalk you if you check it, but if the door is locked, she won't be inside (As that would prevent you from solving the puzzle and get killed, as Fiona doesn't do puzzles when a stalker is nearby). This means you can pick the wrong option in the room, which locks the door, check the closet, see that Daniella isn't there, pick the right option, hear the door being unlocked, check the closet, and suddenly Daniella is in the closet.

A group of Amiga demo devs decided to get into console games with a game called Sub-Terrania. For some bizarre reason that I dont think will ever be explained, whenever you launch and try to play a round of Guilty Gear Strive, you are running two instances of the game, one in UE3 and another in UE4. The UE3 version is just dormant and does not have it's own window. Another oddity about the game is that Goku from Fighterz is fully modeled, textured, animated and even voiced because for some reason he's entire character data is a load bearing file for the game.

There is also evidence that GG Strive wasn't originally supposed to be a fighting game or even GG since because some of May's files do not reference her as May and instead as "Yuuki".

Clock Tower 3's Rooder Points are based on how fast you completed the game, and how many items you have by the end of it. Doing exorcisms by themselves doesn't give points, but the item you obtain from doing exorcism does. Also about Clock Tower 3, on NG+, you can use a key on a wardrobe to wear different costumes, but you can only switch costumes at the very beginning of the game. Once you're back at the house later on, you won't be able to switch clothes because the wardrobe will be locked, even if you have the key.

Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut has several jumpscares that are only visible if you are playing between 29 and 50FPS. Anything above or below this, even by a frame, means they do not display properly.

There are other, incorrectly configured, jumpscares that do not trigger at all unless you're running in excess of 120+FPS, which was well beyond the expectation of the dev, whom averaged 45FPS when playing. You can figure out the latter part by examining a demo he left in the game files of the released version, because it will stutter and have incorrect timing unless you cap the game under 50FPS and count the amount of frames recorded in the .dem file vs. the amount of time it encompasses -- but going down to 30 makes this even worse.

There's more I know about AOM but I wanna leave you thirsty.

Marvel 3 was much more strict about it despite also never banning any given stage; while a number were also liable to drop frames there's also SHIELD Hellicarrier being so dark that picking a team in all-black palettes made you way harder to see in neutral and harder to block on offense. Similarly, back before the nerfs to lower-level ki blasts people would pick all-Yellow teams to make Vegeta's assist in DBFZ basically impossible to parse your mixup within.

Freeing him causes a major world state change, which results in a big bandit faction taking over several locations. After that, this character is never seen again, with the faction head being a randomly generated NPC called "Yabuta Chief".

Speaking of Deus Ex, Gunther has one changed voice line in the Paris cathedral if you haven't killed Anna by that point. Since killing her is a requirement for getting the key to exit the UNATCO HQ much earlier in the game you shouldn't ever be able to hear it, but it's possible to use a grenade to trick her into opening the door without killing her even though she doesn't actually have the key. Gunther will also not message you to swear revenge as you leave the HQ, suggesting they originally planned to have a non-lethal way past Anna.

Fallout 1 had bags/backpacks that you could put in your inventory to hold stuff. It caused some minor bugs (item checks wouldn't see anything inside a container when checking your inventory) and I don't think they actually did anything useful so they were removed from Fallout 2. Except there's still exactly one bag in the game, hidden in a pile of stuff at the bottom of the Modoc outhouse, and if you're not using one of the fan patches with an item highlight key then you have to know it's there and pixel-hunt to find it.

Then, when you can transmute items, you can turn all those apples into Apple Jam and sell them for a decent bit of money.

Also, if you beat Leon when you first encounter him, the game just fucking ends, though this takes a considerable amount of grinding to even be able to beat him since it's an otherwise scripted loss.

In Witcher 1's first act a side quest the player can engage in involves escorting Vesna, a woman working at the inn to her home on the other end of the map. This quest is received at night meaning the player must defend her from increasingly large waves of barghest enemies. All the challenge of this quest can be skipped if the player returns to the inn and sleeps by a fire, allowing them to simply escort Vesna to her house during the day. This is almost surely unintended.

Pixar objected because the game's animated unicycles were similar to Red, the anthropomorphic unicycle from its 1987 short film Red's Dream. Pixar took legal action against Nintendo and DMA, won the dispute, and Nintendo was forced to stop producing additional copies of the game after roughly 300,000 cartridges had been made.

in FFX-2, if you use Paine's Special Dressphere, she can learn an ability called Deeth

It is an ability that acts similar to other gravity spells in the game like Demi and Quarter, as in, deals a fixed % damage of the targets CURRENT HP.

However, one single enemy in the game, a flying fish present only in the early game of Macalania Woods, for unknown reasons, has a weakness to Gravity type damage. Using Deeth on it will overkill it, always dealing 112.5% of its current health.

This is only possible because of the bizarre formula for weakness values, as it takes 50% of the damage dealt and adds it. Meaning this is only possible with Deeth, which naturally deals 75% of the current HP as damage, added with a 50% increase of that 75% .

Mega Man Battle Network 4 also has a funny little bit of trivia:
During the WoodMan.exe scenario, there is a segment where some wooden spikes pop in and out of floors, dealing damage to player. Due to a programming bug, these wooden spikes use some undefined GBA behavior (reading invalid memory address). On original GBA hardware, the game works normally (the invalid memory read returns nothing), but on a Nintendo DS (and some GBA emulators) this can lead to severe slowdown as it tries to parse the invalid memory as continuous sprite data, till it reaches valid memory regions again. The slowdown can be severe enough to render the game basically unplayable.
It's one of the few titles Nintendo officially acknowledged having issues when played on DS hardware, others being Pokemon and a Hamtaro game.

There's still no filter, they just tweaked the affection code so that buying stuff from merchants doesn't give them shitloads of affection because you talk to them regularly and hand them lots of gold. You can still get every NPC but a couple as your beloved too, including kids

An even more obscure fact, the way the game chooses your beloved is the character with the highest affection, and if multiple characters have max affection then it chooses based on an arbitrary internal ordering of character IDs. There was a lot of discussion about it being the last character you talked to or something but it was all just people misinterpreting this internal ordering. That's why so many people get Aelinore even trying to do stuff to prevent it, she's high on the internal ordering and the rescue quest that usually maxes out her affection then removes her from the map so you can't lower it afterwards.
And if you kill literally every character in the game that can possibly have affection for you, your beloved is the little girl from the opening sequence, because she's removed from the map in the same way after the main game starts and is the highest in the internal order of any character you can't kill.

The same company (Frontier) responsible for the ELITE series of space games that were very influential on space/trader games and important historically anyway in the 80s 90s is also responsible for the game "Dog's Life" which is probably far less obscure trivia in that it's weird as shit as a game and usually considered trash.

A slightly more obscure fact is that they were also the developer of Kinectimals, which was pretty much the only launch Kinect-specific game that anyone even remembers or cares about critically and sold pretty well. Frontier -would- have made serious bank from this, but the publisher deal they had was fucking awful, so they still had to kickstart Elite: Dangerous.

Took them 25 years to make a space video game again after being in hell. It's kind of mid, but I personally respect that they survived making shovelware shit that long.

The first Pay-To-Win "Whale & Minnow" model we're all unfortunately familiar with for video games, usually the gacha genre, is actually dateable back to 1997. Not to a mobile game (because no shit) but MUDs, the text-based ancestor of MMORPGs. A company called Iron Realms Entertainment launched a MUD called Achaea in 1997 with a business pay-to-win model that charged money for not only cosmetic items, but high-stat weapons and items with specific powers.
That's the boring part, here's the actual fun part that I will never stop finding fucking funny. The CEO of said company tried to sue several gacha companies in the early 2010s claiming they had the patent on the business model. They did not, and all suits did not make it past summary dismissal.

In the 1st gen Digimon toys it was possible to use the plastic "Battery saver" strip inserted into the device to separate the batteries from their contacts before you bought the thing as a primitive way to glitch the toy into giving you high-level digimon to beat other players by rapidly inserting and then removing the strip in a "Bump key" movement. This from behind looks a lot like jerking yourself off so don't do it at school and get suspended after several sex education lessons.

Koume and Kotake's magic sigils in Ocarina of time bear the same symbols as the Fire Temple Medallion and the Water Temple Medallion.

Kotake's sigil is the Water Temple Medallion symbol because OoT's Water Temple Medallion used to be for an Ice-themed dungeon and this was presumably not caught after the change.

Also Dampe's race track used to be a part of the Gerudo Training Ground and if you look at the pillars in the entrance you can see Gerudo symbolism.

I had it somewhere, I might be able to find exactly what I wrote about it but this was almost 20 years ago. There's a series of gamefaqs game genie codes you have to use. I believe this is how you do it.

You had to start in the WOR, and do a series of game genie codes. First is "DA24-8F0D "RESET EVENTS". With this, when you go to the boats at Albrook, General Leo will be there. Talk to him and you'll go back to the WOB. You have to use a code "D5E7-8F0F "GET OUT OF MY WAY" because some enemies will be in your way and the events won't trigger properly. Then, when you're in Thasama, you have to use the code DAA7-7FD4 "GET AN AIRSHIP /ESPER BAHAMUT ANYWHERE ANY TIME" and talk to anybody, this will give you an airship. Fly to around the Opera house but don't go in. There's another code you have to use 5BAE-8F69 "NEW RARE ITEMS CODE". Go into a battle and go into items, press up to get to your equipped sword and double click on it. The battle will end and you'll get dummied items like "Opera Record" and "magn glass". Finally, when you go into the opera house after all of this, you'll be Maria. You're soft locked and can't leave.

Startopia, a little space station game where you have to cater to aliens was made in the 2000s by some fired remnants of Bullfrog after it was bought out by EA, who formed a company called "Mucky Foot" This was their only game before it dissolved.

In 2021, the IP was bought out by Kalypso, who have a habit of buying out really old IPs nobody is doing anything with to make some mobile trash game/new shovelware with the IP. The sole thing they did to the original startopia is to change the splash page of the game to reflect the new ownership, in which they misspell the name of the former company as "Mucky Food" not "Mucky Foot", this has not changed since 2021.

That was part of the red label audio that Sony marketed the PS1 with - that a huge chunk of the games could have it's soundtrack played via a CD player. That's one of the big selling points people overlook in the PS N64 debate today, but back then getting both a game PLUS an album for the price of one was a genuine system seller.

in dragon sisters you can actually extend each attack including special ones to the opposite limb when using chain attacks. This doubles the amount of attacks you can do and gives access to normally hidden moves. Nobody has played this game.
Also you should never play the shitty 505 games version because it removes all the voices

The main character's names are Hana and Kiku. There is a hidden suit in the game that is extremely hard to unlock but gives super powered moves.

These characters guest star in an onechanbara game with their main mechanic in tact.

One is good with punches, the other is good with kicks.

Sony marketed the idea that the PS1 could play audio cds and that games could have cd audio level quality (which is technically true but not something many of them did) but they didn't market the idea that game purchases would be buying the game + audio cd of the OST in one because most games weren't going to do this. Sony did not put an audio buffer in the console so it could not load game data and playback cd audio at the same time and this is a huge problem when your game's OST is cd audio. It's also a lot of space on the disc being used for uncompressed audio. Sony actually developed their own audio compression format and that is what everyone was supposed to use.

The actual texture being used has been ripped and is viewable. There are no pussy lips anywhere in that texture. We can see how the UV mapping is done and that section of the mesh corresponds to the chest. That's why we know it's a UV error. It's also why they never bothered to fix it despite Capcom being aware and there being multiple revisions for the game.

The US army did deved their own game(s) in 2002. The comouters in my engineering classes in highschool had one of them. It had various mini games where you would work out a math equation and a correct answer would give the correct angle for a tank turret/artillery/bullet drop or whatever and you would blow up the bad guys.
It also had a pretty fun driving segment, you take a humvee through a preset course... however through bruteforce boredom our class figured out you could take the humvee, and go through the first checkpoint and then gun it up the right wall of the ditch you're in. Then drive along for a coupek seconds and slip outside of the invisible walls keeping you in the humvee area.
You can then drive around the full base, including the area where the other minigames take place. You can even get out of the humvee, which leads to my most obscure fact:
>if you take this route the first area you'll be in is the field where the sniper mini game takes place. If you get out of the humvee, and climb the sniper tower the texture inside the tower which you never otherwise see is bubbles. Like soap suds from what I remember

Perfect Dark fifth mission "Chicago: Stealth" is easy to fuck up if the patrolling robot or any other enemy blows up the taxi while trying to shoot you, giving you a mission failed message since you no longer have a way to create a diversion lure out the guards next to the control panel that locks the lift doors.
Nevertheless, you can still beat the mission if that just happened. You just need to find a dumpster in an alley with 2 civilians wearing trench coats, move an explosive barrel next to the dumpster, blow it up, and you will find a BombSpy (the same flying CamSpy, but equipped with a bomb), which can be used to draw the attention of the guards away from the gate then blow them up. The failed objective will then change to completed in the menu.

Not really obscure, there's even a popular LOL thread comic about it.

Dunno about these, if you create a forgery of the Wyrm ring you give the king that to complete the quest, in a later cutscene he tries to use it and fails.
If you splat the gryphon before it heads to the tower you can permanently(?) lock yourself out of it for the most part because a gate that's supposed to be part of the quest will not open, I think you can wrangle your way around with a harpy. This is the area where the only placeable fast travel point in the original base game is found. It's possible that in the above quest where you obtain the ring this gate becomes unlocked even through this glitch, I can't remember.

Cirno's character is a conglomeration of several different things:

Name:
• According to those who visited the Touhou Project Exhibition in 2022, Cirno's name was originally "チルド" (Chirudo). It was likely that some time during development, ZUN changed this to "チルノ" (Chiruno) after reading the manga Sarai and seeing a character with a name similar to what he had already conceptualized. Sarai has many other similarities to EoSD, such as having a character named Patchouli, a hand pose by Nudge that looks similar to Remilia's hand pose, and a visual for Nudge that looks similar to Sakuya's character portrait.

Design:
• Mai from Mystic Square (outfit design, hair design, ice theme, portrait pose)
• Marisu (unused character) from Twinkle Star Sprites (outfit design)
• Tanned Sakura from Marvel vs. Capcom (Tanned Cirno)

Character:
• Mai's personality and theme could be referencing the Divine Comedy's ninth circle of Hell which might explain the
• EoSD's full version was released at Comiket 62 on August 11th, 2002. In EoSD, Cirno was not associated with the infamous insult "バカ" (idiot). About two years later, Sarai's Cirno used the phrase in Sarai, Volume 12, page 98, released in August 2004. About three months before the infamous PoFV manual called Cirno an idiot, PoFV's demo (version 0.01a) released at Reitaisai 2 on May 4th, 2005. In that demo, Reimu said to Cirno, "あ、バカ発見" (Ah, idiot sighted).

Spell Cards:
• Continuing with Cirno's possible association with the Divine Comedy, she has a spell card called Freeze Sign "Freeze Actress" in the earliest EoSD demo (the Divine Comedy is a popular writing commonly used in acting) and a spell card in PoFV called Freeze Sign "Cold Divinity".
• One of Mai's attacks after Yuki has been defeated looks extremely similar to Cirno's Ice Sign "Icicle Fall" spell card.
