Just realized that I've had this sitting in my backlog for ages, and since I found myself with an abundance of time on my hand I decided to give it a shot. I just finished the second chapter, and unlocked fast travel. I like the game so far, gameplay wise. Just the simple stuff of your path wearing into the landscape after a few passes is really interesting but jesus fucking christ I dread turning in a mission and cargo because I'm going to have 19 cut scenes where Cant Shutthefuckupman yammers on about how I'm building connections. CONNECTIONS BRO!I fucking got it, you're wearing your themes on your sleeve, you don't need to also rub everyone's face in it. But admittedly I have very low tolerance for kojimboid nonsense, so I knew what I was getting into. Otherwise: Death Stranding thread.
If there was ever a game where radio chatter WOULDN'T have been obtrusive, this is it. I don't want people constantly bugging me, but there is a lot of shit that could have been a simple conversation when the game detects you're not near any enemies and can bullshit.
>>748257438Not all sections are cutscene heavy, and not as reddit as the second game.
Based I just want to walk.
>>748258532Is there any way to mitigate the rain? I feel like I get stuck crouch walking through a rainstorm in BT territory and by the time I'm out my cargo is trashed from the rain.
Love the gameplay and the world, hate the characters and “story”.
>>748258875Only cargo containers gets fucked by the rain, not the actual content that decides your delivery rating.>Is there any way to mitigate the rain?Use repair sprays when you've cleared the rain.
>>748259205okay it was telling me my shit got ruined so I just assumed I fucked it up, and I'm usually delivering a metric ton of shit at once so sometimes I lose track
>>748257438this is such an amazing game, although i did have one extremely cringy mission with the faggot at the junkyard and the most embarrassing attempt at romantic acting i've ever seen last night. i love how i underestimated the BTs and thought they weren't shit, only to get completely humiliated by them and taught to properly fear them, and i can't believe kojima actually made a game about walking through fields this captivating. they should have had kojima direct the lord of the rings trilogy, maybe they wouldn't have been complete dog shit. >>748259205can you restore a completely broken cargo container at all? i dumped a full healing spray on some of them and they stayed broken, and i haven't found any way to create a fresh one other than rebuilding a completely new item.
>>748260267>can you restore a completely broken cargo container at all?You can but honestly it's not worth it except for special orders, you will see later, where the container actual matters. Otherwise, just don't fall bro. You get plenty of materials eventually to craft and items are pretty disposable. One way you can be nice also is donating your decayed gear at terminals to other porters, if you can spare it and it's about to break anyway. They get it back at full condition.Keep on keeping on and enjoy the journey anon.
>>748257438>Using VA's faces for the designs of your charactersI simply wont play your game, its pretentious and annoying
>>748258875>Is there any way to mitigate the rain? There is a weather radar
>>748260406without too much spoiling, will i ever be able to unlock a lethal weapon to kill mules with? i can't stand those faggots, they need to be punished.
>>748260637Early in the game it tells you to seek cover, but the only spot I've found (so far) is one archway that's usually ground zero for BT's. Just unlocked the plans for my own bike, but I've been driving around the free one you get early, and then just hijacking mule trucks and dumping resources into road construction. I do like how the infrastructure grows from ladders to bridges.
>>748260886you can steal the vehicles mules are using? can you take it to your garage and keep it as your own vehicle?
>>748260958>you can steal the vehicles mules are using?Yes. >can you take it to your garage and keep it as your own vehicle? No, best is you can charge it, eventually you will get your own vehicle that can be repaired and stored.
>>748260824Anon... you've seen a voidout crater, yes?
Games like this don't come around every day. Have fun.
>>748260958You can drive it around until it breaks. But if you try to park it on the spot it won't let you go to the private room or repair it. Still its a nice way to clean out ALL the loot from the camps without having to slowly walk back overloaded.
>>748257438like most great japanese stories, death stranding is built on puns and wordplaythe game is pure kino though.
>>748262482DIE HARDMAN
>>748263371I was mostly thinking about how sam porter bridges is a deliveryman and the game is about delivering a baby like a pregnant woman delivers a baby but instead of a pregnant woman or obgyn you are a UPS guy
>>748264064You son of a bitch I never caught that.https://youtu.be/fQhcOJHTdb4Be sure to read the emails OP
OP here. Another nice thing I will say is that ordinarily I am blind to graphics, but there are a few parts in this game that made even me appreciate the GRAFFIX! A big problem I have is that I recently have been playing a lot of RDR2, so I am constantly and compulsively calling for my horse, remembering I don't have a horse, and then realizing how much this game needs a horse. Make it a cyber horse, voiced by herzog or joe rogan. I don't know.
>spam 10,000 likes on everything I can >try to lay stuff down in useful areas >you have received 1 like well fuck-you too then
>>748265762if you're building things just for likes, it isn't helpful. it's just obnoxious.
>>748265762I like to an amount proportional to how helpful it was, or an autistic appealing number
>>748265762>The ramp in the middle of nowhere that doesn't help at all has a billion likes
>>748266150all me
>>748266253Peko!
>>748266039I like to crab my way up the side of a mountain until I hit a dead end and then put a "motorcycle accessible" sign
>>748266729Devilish but I would say challenge accepted
>>748257438>Can you retrieve some samples/equipment/valuables >It's directly in the middle of the ghosts heavy zoneI'm getting real tired of your shit shelter people
>>748266253What an immeasurable piece of shit this game is.
>>748257438I just finished it and its honestly amazing, very slow start. Honestly this game is the closest thing ive seen to a true SCP game atleast as far as atmosphere goes. Even though its its own thing.
>>748267273>the closest thing ive seen to a true SCP gameControl?
>>748257438the cutscenes are very heavy in the beginning and then it chills out for a while and then there's a ton at the end>>748266253otsupeko
>>748267328NTA but Control is like a foundation game, where death stranding feels like you're inside an SCP.
>>748267328are the controls good? the new game looked interdasting.
>>748268219Control 1 is a 7/10 game, with bonus points if you are really into the whole SCP vibe. Gameplay is nothing great, but serviceable enough. I am trying to keep myself spoiler free for Control 2, but from what I've seen I am invested enough to play it day 1.
GO WALK ON YOUR FUCKING NEIGHBORHOOD, FATASS
>>748268476>Gameplay is nothing great, but serviceable enough. It has its moments. The big problem is that throw gets so overpowered so fast that you don't have much reason to use anything else. But the Essej fight, and some of the jukebox missions turn into some brawls where you do need to interact with the powers a bit more. But seriously its not that long of a game, even if you veer off and try to explore and do side quests its pretty tight. The longest part always felt like the alan wake DLC because that fucking department is just so god damn long and winding with three different big turnstyle sections that always get me turned around.
IT WAS THE SUMMER SHE HAD TO GOThe soundtrack in 2 is such a downgrade and it makes me sad. I can't pick anything interesting to put on my structures besides Pop Virus and that's a recycle
>>748257438i legit think the bike detracts from the experience, but at the same time i couldnt help myself and kept using it for the whole game
>>748271085It works for some areas, for others it ends up being more trouble than its worth.
>>748257438I remember saying this game was going to be shit as soon as the first teaser and official announcement was released. I was crucified but I mean I'm not going to be wrong just to fit in with the rest of the NPCs if I don't feel like it. it was fun being right and watching people lose their shit as the situation unfolded
OP here, I just figured out you can bunny hop on the bike 11/10
>>748273458The game itself is pretty great and manages to make a walking simulator full of fetch quests that feel better than collecting 10 bear foreskins
>>748265968Its literally an updoot based economy. I more just think its weird since the only time I give something one thumbs up is when I'm driving by at a hundred miles per hour. I either don't, or I try to see how big I can make the number get. And hell, you get upgrades to increase how long your updoot spam is. I just wonder if any of that actually translates across "strands" of its just randomly assigned.
>>748269942I love DS2 and all but i'm back from the dreamlands and this was playing tonight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXzJjhTiwq0Death Stranding trdifrd in DS1.
DS2 was such a fucking disappointment, it's like they made the game listening to people that complained and never played the first one. "Ololol we want moar gunz and traversal is too HaRD", so you end up with a an environment with boring easy terrain and climat hazards that serve no purpose, BTs that are even less of a threat, even more OP vehicles and auto cargo pick up customization, a shitton of guns and rehashed plot points from the first game but worse.
>>748276629Nothing wrong with guns and the gun systems in DS2 is objectively better with being able to switch between lethal and non lethal instead of having duplicate guns.
spent like 80 hours just building the roads all the way.. don't regret it.
Is it true Death Stranding is just a post apocalyptic pizza delivery walking sim? How did it get so much acclaim if delivering pizzas from point a to b is the main gameplay loop? Sounds boring as HELL
I think those moments become a welcome reprieve later on.
>>748277206Yes. 99% of the time in 1 you are just moving across the map from A to B. Some horror stealth and kojima movies along the way. But it's damn good walking. Not "glide down a corridor" 'walking simulator" walking but hiking you give a shit about.Newer games like Cairn and Baby Steps go further but DS really takes maximum advantage of a big ass nature map with 0 NPCs. You clamber over every little rock when you're not blasting past in a truck or a zipline. Tack on Dark Souls multiplayer (no invasions) and it's an extremely unique crafted experience.https://youtu.be/6g-IU9C0xIk
>>748276790>with being able to switch between lethal and non lethal instead of having duplicate gunsAnon... you could do that in 1... and the unlockable bullets too...Did you even use the grenade launcher?
>>748277427I'm simply not seeing the appeal. If I want to go for a walk, I go outside. Not pretend to deliver pizzas while robots try to kill me over craggy terrain
>>748277206Point A and point B aren't what matters and the game happens during transit. It might as well be a collection of random As and random Bs but there's a whole sci-fi setting attached to it too so it's a vidya place to inhabit and some enjoyed that otherworld. It's a unique futuristic vision.
>>748277568How am I supposed to take this vision seriously with character names like Die Hardman or Princess Beach though?
DS is a nice sim for pc. i like it
>>748260824Dead Humans are basically Bombs in that story. So no.
>>748277427I played Witcher 3 after playing DS1 and Geralt's walk animations had no contact with the ground geometry, it looked jarring, in most games we live like this by gliding the character around. I had tasted superior inv-kinematics.
>>748277618Laugh at what's funny. You know media can embody multiple aspects at once right? This is a game by the guy who brought you the mechanic of tossing nudie mags to distract guards who shit themselves for your amusment. The over-tutorialization they give Sam becomes amusing.>Sam, this is Laces-Tiedman. Did you know the plastic endpiece on your boot laces are called aglets? You can keep your boot laces tied properly by pressing the X button periodically while you're bent down in inspecting your shoes mode, B. Be careful out there, Sam. We're all counting on you.
>>748277485You could not do it like that in DS1. Your rubber gun was a blue rubber gun.
>>748277781Eh, I like sone of Kojimbos humor but a lot of it is too esoteric for my american mind. Still, I may give DS a try sometime, you guys make it sound vaguely interesting. Certainly not buying a Ps5 for it tho
>>748277839Shit my bad anon, it's been a while. I was mixing up that you had to swap between non-lethal and blood in 1 and lethal was it's own entire separate category you could just not touch.MP anything was a bad concept they should have not introduced.
>>748277618If i had the time to post i'd answer that well and good. Look past all the clowning that these games do because it masks a deeper self behind acrobatics, dazzles and jokes.I don't know why these game do this. Shyness?
>>748277878>for my american mindIt's very much a game about America itself as a concept, viewed through the outsider lense of an eccentric Jap westaboo. Give it a shot sometime anon.
>>748278053I love the MP bullet system. Imagine a worse version of DS2 where we get damage types with elemental weapons.
>>748260267Don't they get divorced later on, or am I remembering it wrong?
>>748278215They get back together at the end of the game
>>748257438>Forgot about the relevance of the birthday entry in the beginning of the game.>Decide to play late evening on my birthday>Press the call out button at one point: "Hello!">"Hey, birthday boy!"Got me off guard. Not bad kojimbo, not bad...
>>748276872>end road segment >needs a shitload of metal >decide to be the guy who helps extend it (hoping it goes to the elderly dude on the mountain) >it just extends like 20 feet out heading towards nowhere
>>748279302The road by the elder? I remember that being a simple straight stretch. There's a bridge further down past the distro center that you have to cross the river to actually finish that was annoying. Or do you mean the DC road where it forks towards the mountain? Or the big curve up by first prepper?
>>748279413It extends out towards the distribution center in the south region (where you deliver the robot legs to). Both other preppers are right off the side of the main road so I thought maybe it would bypass up the mountain. Otherwise I've just been motorbiking around the central region maxing out the stars with the preppers and dog knot city.
the ending 5 hours of cut scenes brought the game down from a 8/10 to a 3/10 for me. if you re explain the same bit of story 10 times I just have to assume you're out of your depth and dont know what you're doing
