The show really glosses over the worst parts of imperial China, it's kind of diappointing. In particular the eunuchs were fucking disgusting, both physically and mentally. Leaking piss everywhere with a fucked up gait, and always scheming to maintain influence in the emperor's court.

The number of times their conversations were interrupted or deflected in just the anime content were excessive and cringe, and it seems to only get worse since the fear of imperial succession is used as a plot device to keep them from fucking.This forced separation trope is cancer every single time it is played out in a story. At least with Apothecary there is an actual plot and other characters beyond the romance.
