I've come to realize that superurban living is for people with no internal thoughts and no meaningful intents. I don't want to call them NPCs because that's cliche, but close. They are terrified of the thought of being alone with nothing to do; some part of their brains has been fucked up, likely since birth in said city, to require constant stimulus of some kind. Obviously they're having the time of their lives now with cell phones and social media having taken over every aspect of life, but that fear still lingers. Imagine having to just sit there and THINK. No TV telling you what you should feel, no hustle and bustle of angry people at stoplights, no being proud of your shithole by telling everyone it's perfectly safe as long as you keep your head on a swivel and don't go on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at any time of day. They have no lives outside of other people, no hobbies that can't fit in a 10 by 10 foot box and be packed up in thirty seconds. So video games are perfect for them, unsurprisingly.You don't see guys with model train hobbies living in cities. You see them living in the middle of nowhere with a whole ass garage dedicated to trains, and they'll sit there for hours all by their lonesome, because they still have brains capable of doing that without fucking exploding.

I live in New York City, I generally rely on public transportation to get to and from work on a day-to-day basis and to do basic errands like shopping, but also have a car (and a garage to park it in), which I use to travel outside of the city to see family and explore the suburbs and countryside on my time off.I find 60 minutes of combined buses+walking+subway to be a far more enjoyable/less hellish experience than having to spend 2 hours on the BQE/Belt/LIE in a car, at least on the subway and bus you can just read the newspaper, crawling along at 2 mph on the highway is a maddening experience.
