The beauty of the story is that you initially see their visible disabilities, but as you get to know the girls, you learn of their deeper problems (not that physical disabilities aren't real problems), and realise that all humans struggle and there are all kinds of invisible shortcomings that make the world a difficult place to navigate. Hanako is cripplingly shy and afraid of doing normal things. Ren has great difficulty interacting with and relating to other people. Those are the only two girls I remember so my made up baseless rambling ends here.

Each girl provides one route that either heals him, or brings him to confront the healing he needs. But he can't get all five girls, he can only get one.Thus the Hisao at the end of each path is incomplete. The only fully healed Hisao is the conceptualized Hisao we assemble at the end of the game. That's the real tragedy. The only version of the hero that has completed his journey exists only in our mind as a combination of five different threads of time.
