Originally planned to be a spinoff set in the world of The Legend of Zelda as opposed to a direct prequel or sequel, which also would have starred a completely new protagonist.>Although Nintendo "liked the concept", the company requested that Ubisoft instead change the protagonist to Ganondorf, which Milan continued to develop under the codename Goliath that reportedly "reflected the scale of what Ubisoft Milan aimed to develop.">Without too many details to go from over what the gameplay would have been like, the ex-Ubisoft dev only had glowing things to say about the project that "wanted to create a new big bang in the video game universe." And honestly, an adventure playing as not only one of the series' strongest villains, but also from a non-Link perspective would have been more than a refreshing experience even without much else.
>Unfortunately, despite the high praise over the Ganondorf-led spinoff, Nintendo eventually "rejected the prototype" in late 2023, which followed several talks over the next year on which Nintendo IP the studio would tackle next before fizzling out entirely.>Following the cancellation, Insider Gaming notes that much of the team eventually got split up before several of the developers left to start their own studio by the name of Day 4 Night to begin their own breakout game, Bradley the Badger.>While the unreleased title doesn't play the same as a typical Zelda adventure, if the ambitious premise and fourth-wall-breaking concepts in Bradley the Badger are anything to go by, the canceled Legend of Zelda game would have been an interesting take on the iconic series, and one that we could have even been playing by now if it didn't get scrapped.
