You can make subsistence isk from burners if you know what you're doing and convert LP perfectly, but it's still poor house tier isk.The thing that really astonishes me about Eve is how there's good ways to make isk but most of the population just won't engage with it because they're too scared of losing a ship. Unironically you make better isk than 90% of the playerbase by yeeting a t1 cruiser with filaments and robbing ESS's.
