Why was there so much Nintendo hate in the early 2010s? It seems that until around late 2013 everyone shat on Nintendo. Celebrating the initial struggles of the 3DS and the bombing of the Wii U. Many think pieces and memes going as far as to say Nintendo games were never good

Late 00s and early 10s were peak dudebro machobullshit era, while at the same time Nintendo profiles itself as the family friendly waggling control company with Wii, and admittably the eraly 00s era was pretty grim if you look solely at the quality of Nintendo’s game releases. So it was easy to kick them when they were down.

>>748575332It was also because there weren't any popular games like it. Most people were used to hack & slash games that were more forgiving. People talk shit about it now, but i remember when my friends and i first played it. We all tried to rush in like any other game with a sword and shield. I remember dying multiple times and even trying different routes before i finally made it past the first couple of enemies in the Undead Burg. Then it finally clicked and the game made sense. For most, we were going into the gameplay with a totally different play style in mind. It's seems like common sense now, but that's because Dark Souls is 15 years old. I never played Demon's Souls. The only FromSoft game i did play before Dark Souls was one of the Armored Core games. I didn't even realize it was the same developer.
