if someone wants to improve the track, they can sing it themselves or edit it themselves. it already got a new edit specifically for that and it sounds good to me. it had to do a lot of work for it, but it timed anonika's take to the other one reasonably, it avoided making either one of them sound like robots, and it's timed to the instrumental. there's not too much more you can expect out of a kid's cartoon intro song parodied on a mongolian basket weaving forum.

Last year I managed to take a vacation on the last few days of Musical so I had way more time to put in a few last minute songs that actually came out good. The latest flintstones edit is good. the only mewgenics edit I've heard is really robotic and choppy, but I don't know how much of that is because of the singing or because the editing tried to fix it instead of leave it rough.

I know I'm happy to get basically anything that sounds human, but Mewgenics on the finals sheet has as much digital correction audio as human audio. The same applied to the other singer on the older version of the Krillin song, it's not really a person singing anymore if it's pushed that hard by the digital processing on a song that isn't supposed to even have digital processing.
It puts people in a tough spot. It's not rewarding to edit for hours when you know the final result won't be good. It's not a good feeling to want to see a song improved, but not want to death battle it because the singer only sings a few things that year.
My only advice for next year would be to try and pick songs you are sure you can handle. Perhaps that means going for stuff that's more like speaking than singing, I thought you did good with the gamer rap one.

That's part of the issue. I don't want to bully someone off of the album with easy win death battles. I want them to make something they can be proud of, the writefag can be proud of, the editor can be proud of, ect. the bar is very low but reading the lyrics in silence in one take without referencing the song is never going to be someone's best. It's a bit tricky, I'm pretty sure it's just because POKEMON ends on a hard sound but MEWGENICS ends on that soft s that naturally lingers a bit longer if the word itself is said at the right pace. I tried giving it an early fade out when I noticed that, but then it's just "MEWGENIC" which is a lot more wrong. It can't really go earlier either, it's literally the first thing you hear and the instrumental matches it. I can do a more subtle fade but it's always going to bleed in somewhat unless the word is said unnaturally or rushed.

Pick a topic you know in depth enough and care enough about to write lyrics worth singing. I can just tell you to write about Kid Icarus Uprising or a sing about how shilling is good actually because community is built upon shared interests, but if you don't know the topic of some specific game or have the love and passion for the topic then the lyrics will inevitably be soulless. Write whatever uniquely you can inject with soul, meaning you have so much to say about the topic that you couldn't even fathom leaving 1 line lazy instead of rewriting it to include 1 more detail you are passionate about.

Now that's a performance worthy of a legendary song, great job anon the effort is appreciated. The only bit I'd even nitpick is just the editing on the "WHOA FELL DOWN IN DESPAIR" bit, the echo specifically there is a bit odd. I'm assuming it's going for the backing vocals, but it just sounds like extra reverb when it's the same voice doubled. Even something small like pitch shifting that 2nd take up some might help, assuming it is a 2nd copy of a take. Messing with (even just reducing) the reverb/effects you used could also help if your program has non-destructive audio (even audacity does now with 4.0). But I'll be honest I can't give specific advice for that because effects are not easy to master and I wouldn't know how you'd want to fuck with the dials either.

I was trying to replicate backing vocals via the same track. I actually tried pitch shifting but for some reason pitch shifting on my software causes some minor distortion and doubling on the vocals that I wasn't too fond of. Mostly did some chorus effect plugins for the backing vocals, with a slight flanger on one of them.

Yeah effects can be a bitch to deal with. It's genuinely really good already if you want to leave it there, but if you have other takes that didn't get used perhaps just slotting one of those in on those couple lines and turning the simulated backing off there would give it a cleaner feel. Even without a pitch shift it would make it sound less like reverb.
