Having both Peter and Miles play decently, traversal is even better than the first game(s), and the new adversaries are solid. The problem is that all of this is constantly pounded by a eye rolling shit that didn't need to be there. Some things (including MJs's giant manface) can be fixed with mods, but others are just cumbersome and make the game far worse than they should have been . If they made a handful of changes to the most egregious stuff and released the DLC they literally threw into the toilet at the last minute, it could have been equally as good as the first game if not better but this is the biggest example of consultants allowed to basically shit directly into the saucepan while things are being cooked and then claiming they didn't make the result any worse.
Was fun enough for me to bother getting all the achievements. The game leverages SSD loading speeds for some pretty impressive shenanigans with the portal transitions. Story is just okay, I still liked original Ratchet's personality best. Story is overall a bit softer and fluffier than earlier games, gameplay is classic Ratchet & Clank jumping and shooting with gadgets. Plus Rivet is pretty cute and the interactions between her and Ratchet feel fine. >>748716195It's no mistake that the series has lasted through so many generations of consoles. It is pretty much the standard for high mobility third person shooters. It peaked with Deadlocked, when it comes to raw gameplay. Rift Apart is maybe 15 or 20 hours of gameplay, and definitely enjoyable as its own product, but it does lean on nostalgia for the earlier entries since the big gimmick is the travel to alternate universes where you run into previous characters as alternate counterparts. Get it on sale if possible, it's worth $30 or $35 to me as somebody who likes the series.

Also Size Matters for PSP which was a very good attempt at translating the game to a portable platform.
