How do you fuck up a game this badly?
>>
publishers being retarded isn't exactly uncommon and 2K is as retarded as they come
>>
>>748848331
the team they put together was a piece of shit and they were based in the most expensive place of all times, if they picked 10 ex soviet dudes in bumfuck nowhere it'd be cheap as fuck and they'd actually deliver
>>
so inclusive. as a black woman playing KSP, I finally feel seen.

Easy

By making a sequel in the first place
KSP should have been a forever game, like Rimworld and Terreria

Too bad the real sequel is also fucked and doomed to insignificance because of developer faggotry
>>
>>748849291
>remaking it from the ground up.
They were to incompetent for that
It was a glorified DEI hire checklist, they had no real developers
>>
>>748849291
they had like 3 community managers and 10 developers or someshit it was a money laundering scheme all along kek
>>
>>748849402
having a problem with it not being on steam is pathetic
>>
>>748849646
It NOT being on steam because of some anti-capitalist "principle" is what's pathetic
>>
>>748849291
No, the problem was that the execs initially told the new devs to remake the old game from the ground up, to the point that they weren't even allowed to reference the old game's code, and then when the progress was slow and produced nothing playable, they were suddenly told to toss all of what they did out and quickly figure out the spaghetti code of the original to make something they can ship. As expected, neither approach worked out, because the execs are not programmers and understand nothing about the craft.
>>
>>748849930
No, it's very based.
Having to make an account to actually download it, THAT is pathetic.
>>
>>748849519
>money laundering scheme
Why do people always say this about video games? Do you even know how money laundering works?
>>

>what the game devs wanted: "let's add a girl kerbal"

Congratulations for confirming you never played the fucking game. Either of them really. Why would you even be in a thread for a niche game's dead sequel?

Dumbshit publishers axing the project then restarting it from scratch and acting like they should be able to push it out the door in no time at all 'because they've been working on it for so long'
>>
>>748850868
No its not "based" dipshit, its dumb ESPECIALLY when deep down its because the dev is having a melty because Icarus flopped and got called out for in on Steam so he is insulating himself because of those meenie steam gamers which is readily apparent with his "dont hurt our feewings" post in the forum rules

Its a fag move and yes doubly so when he requires you to sign up to his shit site to download his "free" game

I followed this game for a bit, the publishers did certainly make some retarded decisions but this game didn't fail due to their meddling. The failure lies mainly on the shitty dev studio and its management. If anything, the publisher's main fuckup was being taken for a ride by the shitty devs and not reining them in sooner (aka what we're also seeing at Microsoft), had the publishers actually been more hands-on then they maybe could've salvaged something.

>publishers want a quick 'n' easy cashgrab sequel to KSP: take the same basic game, update the Unity version, tighten up the graphics on level 3, ship it
>shops around for a dev studio, settles on the one that gives a flashy style-over-substance pitch (arguably the one main mistake the publishers made)
>dev studio's project manager scope creeps out the ass, says that they're going to tack on MULTIPLAYER and INTERSTELLAR TRAVEL like these are just basic run-of-the-mill features you can add after the fact
>publishers agree (????)
>le epic prerendered CGI trailer comes out to hype everyone up
>studio, naturally, has no fucking way of delivering on what they promised
>publisher guts the studio and moves the game over to a new studio
>publisher hires a bunch of devs from the old studio, including the project manager (????) at the new studio
>predictably, same shit occurs
>publisher loses their patience and forces the studio to deliver something: hence, early access release with a planned roadmap to deliver remaining features
>early access release bombs, absolute dogshit performance, major glitches, and fewer features than KSP1
>studio flounders for a bit, releasing a few updates to try and reach parity with the first game (lol) and showing absolutely no signs at all of being capable of delivering on the new features
>publisher eventually pulls the plug and shitcans the whole team

Mismanagement all around but Take Two is not the bad guy here, they were just asleep at the wheel
>>

3. publicity means money, the drive for all our work in this great capitalistic system. NMS has been riding their release cash since now with tons of free updates.
>>
>>748852682
>How would it actually improve the game if it were on Steam?
It would improve the game by giving it the gamut of steam features which are too numerous to list but include ease of use(installation and updates), workshop support, cloud saves and a host of other services
But this is a dishonest line of questioning so I wont be responding to your (you)
>>
>>748853741
Ok, but how would it improve the game? KSP2 is on Steam, and it's total shit.
>>
>>748853741
>Workshop support
You killed your argument the moment you said this. Workshop is a walled garden which is why more and more games are moving away from it in favor of third party of self hosted mod sites. BG3,Sins2,Factorio,the new shogun 2 remaster etc.

When a game is sold is available on more than just steam it makes workshop inaccessible to anyone that didn't get it from there.
>>
>>748852735
lmfao

Yeah good luck competing with the literal hundreds of other games released at the same time as yours. You might get lucky to show up on the store page for 30 minutes after you release your game.
>>
>>748854094
More dishonest arguments
The workshop is not a walled garden and is just another self hosted mod site with integration into steam itself
Absolutely NOTHING stops mod authors from hosting their mods on other sites
So fuck off honestly, wont be replying again
>>
>>748848331
hilarious how something as innocuous as kerbal STILL had to feature a bit h front and center
>>
>gets killed right as the development starts looking actually promising
maybe im just naive but i do genuinely think this could have been a worthy successor to ksp

also promised worlds was kil like last month, so ksp2 systems never ever i guess
>>
>>748854280
you don't exactly make your stance seem more popular by this. also steam highlights upcoming releases.

you really think I'll stumble upon your game by typing a random url until I get to your site? steam is always the best option.

Yet here we are discussing a game that isn't on steam. Steam is dogshit for publicity unless your game is already popular so it actually shows up in the popular tab. The way you get noticed is by social media and paying shills to play your game on twitch/youtube (Like KSA did)

The majority of steam games don't even get 100 reviews and have never been heard of by the vast majority of users. Releasing on steam isn't an automatic success and anyone saying it is, is retarded.
>>
>>748855336
I'm sure the spiritual successor to KSP will gain a decent fanbase, especially if the fanbase doesn't have to move to another launcher

>>
>>748853002
This is accurate. t. KSP vet

Also worth mentioning that the project lead was an artist not a programmer or game designer, just because he played the most KSP of anyone at the studio.
And Take-Two didn't just can the studio working on KSP, they shuttered their entire indie-publishing branch and sold off all the IPs to holding companies.
>>
>>748849402
Eh, it might come to Steam eventually when it's mature.
The builds they've been putting out thus far have been very early tech-demo type stuff, not worth paying money for unless you just want to donate. Had they released on Steam like that the reviews would have been awful.
>>
>>748848331
Incompetent devs. Simple as. People are always so eager to blame evil capitalist managers, but in reality games are made and fucked up by the devs.
>>
>>748848331
The development problems of KSP go all the way back to the original when Squad tried to pay all the American freelancers they hired Mexican salaries
>>
>>748853002
>>748860902
>Take Two is not the bad guy here
I wouldn't absolve them entirely. Their whole idea for a "sequel" was essentially KSP1's original codebase but with some refinements here and there and an HD graphics mod, which, if KSP2's price during EA was any indication, would've been offered at $50. I can't imagine such a game, even if it was competently executed, would've gone over well with fans, and had such a game not been commercially successful in accordance to T2's standards, would've caused the Kerbal franchise to be shelved in a similar way. T2 set up the series for failure, The incompetent devs they commissioned just added their own breed of incompetence which accelerated the timeline.

I think it'll be good. It might not be as big as KSP, different time and that has strong appeal. But it's so moddable and shouldn't have the same problems as unity. Maybe we will play KSP in KSA.
Concerned that they're not seeing that the game needs to be fun and slightly silly/cartoonish but it's too early to judge maybe.

>Concerned that they're not seeing that the game needs to be fun and slightly silly/cartoonish but it's too early to judge maybe
This. The advanced UI and planning tool and some fuel lines they show all look really cool and all. But I wish they would just focus on making core of the game (design + flight + crash) first and only then start working on advanced QoL. I fear they might add a lot of neat stuff and burn out before they make a game out of this.

There's something kind of uncanny about them that the Kerbals didn't have. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it's the lighting.
