A specific fork of the Yuzu emulator is able to recompile a Switch game to x86 code, so your PC's CPU runs it directly instead of emulating the Switch's CPU. Meaning: an emulator now runs your Switch games natively.

The only way consoles will die out is if emulation becomes popular on iPhones/android phones.

As long as the 500$ tier phones can emulate dolphin or pcsx2 it should be enough.

I think at this point it's a matter of ignorance from normies.

Yeah but isn't it effectively a native port by that point? From what I understand it decompiles to an unhelpful C or C equivalent source code then compiles that source but targeting x86 PC instead. Which doesn't seem too different than having the actual source code but porting it to PC.
>>
>>748861540
It's literally in the paper:

>Assuming our explanation of width scaling is correct, we ask can we change the loss scaling
with width to be faster than power laws, or to have larger exponents? The answer is no
for natural languages but may be yes for domain tasks with super skewed feature frequencies.
Another question is when the scaling law will stop? Based on our naive connection between
features and tokens, the answer is that when the model dimension reaches the vocabulary size,
the loss limited by width will deviate from a power law and vanish. However, the vocabulary
size may set a lower bound for the true number of independent things in language, then the
power law with width may continue for a longer time.

In the most simple terms:

Prior research has shown that scaling LLMs is GOOD. Which is why we saw the progress over the last 3 years. Up until recently people assumed we could just keep scaling like that. But now people figured out that there's a point where shit will start to fall apart. There's some cope to prolong the growth, but we're basically guaranteed to never get to super intelligence with the current tech framework.

>I still think playing PS5 games natively is more impressive in the other thread
It's less impressive. PS5 is LESS removed from a Windows PC than a Switch.
People don't understand modern emulation at all. No one emulates actual hardware behavior anymore because it's too costly and pointless. Most systems since like PS1 is emulated through a variety of high level translation layers. PS5 is basically already an x86-64 computer with some asterisks. Switch is an ARM-based system with a custom GPU but what emulators do is still just high-level translation. All these AI recomps do is take that process and push it from runtime into a premade executable, but because it's AI slop it often doesn't even win performance.

Apparently the Suyu fork introduced pre-compiled CPU instructions, so graphics and other bits are still emulated.

It's not the favored Yuzu forks like Citron NEO or Eden doing this either, but I'm curious what they'll do.

Switch games run superbly on ARM devices already too.

The combination of AI reverse engineering and sustained higher hardware prices will probably destroy the console market yes. Not really. I'm not a consolefag and don't give a shit about consoles and the faster it dies the better, but you're missing the main selling point of consoles: being simple to use for normies. And in case of Nintendo in particular kids and women as well.

Your average 5 year old isn't fucking with emulators to play Pokemon (I did when I was a kid, but most kids I knew didn't even know about emulators).

If consoles die, it isn't really because of PCs can emulate all their games, but because phones/tablets are being even easier to use and more appealing to kids and women and normies in general.
