Surely such memory footprint implies massive combat scenarios with hundreds of aircrafts at a time (as in, "real" aircrafts, not some billboards eternally stuck miles away from you and just creating an illusion of something happening right around the horizon), or enormous interactive maps. Right?

Feels good to be psychic so I purchased more ram just as prices cratered.
>>
>>748883289
The RAM will get freed up as there is more demand for it, 32gb is fine, games tend to use more RAM than they actually need to anyway.

Idiots always try to 'optimise' their build and laugh at those who overbuild as future proofing.
Then they cry when the requirements shift, every single time.
Usually the excuse is 'well by the time you need that extra <hardware> the rest of GPU/system/whatever won't be useful'

Believe it or not, the PS5 OS runs on a separate RAM chips that are 4GB. The 16 GB are what's available to games.
>>
>>748889183
Now imagine if you do like me and you cache exclusively to RAM to avoid SSD writes.

Hit "about:memory" in your URL bar and hit measure. It'll show the breakdown of what's using what, including add-ons.
>>
>>748889797
Sucks that this still isn't a built-in feature of Windows yet. I autostart a program on log-in that sets aside 8gb of RAM for Shadowplay and my browser to write into.
>>
>>748889856
Such a shame too.
Those little 16GB $5 Optane M10 cache SSDs do 250MB/s q1t1 random.
Nothing outside optane is that fast, even today samsung 9100Pro is only ~110MB/s q1t1 read.
>>
>>748890040
To be fair it was never going to scale to high capacity remotely at a sensible price and intel was still amid its turbo retard stage.
>>
>>748889793
PS5 doesn't have separate memory for the OS.
kekbox does. But on kekbox 10+6 setup also means the OS memory is much slower.
>>
>>748889134
Because nobody anticipated RAM stick prices to go up, and you only need 8-16GB at minimum
>>
>>748890149
Xbox's OS only uses 2.5GB of the slow 6GB.
>>
>>748890565
I think even less than that because SeS has 8+2 setup.
>>
>>748889737
the PS6 is coming out maybe in 2030, ddr4 and compatible processors are more than enough for this generation necessities, especially if you're fine with 60fps.
Nobody sane is going to develop games for specs that will require a user base able to spend 2k(when the prices will triple by the end of 2028) on ddr5 ram.
Future proofing, especially now with these prices and such uncertain future, is pointless for the majority of people.
You'd be better off putting the extra money towards a bigger SSD or better GPU if you're gaming at 60 fps.

Windowns itself also uses a sizable chunk in the background.
On a fresh boot with 32 Gigs, this is anywhere from 7 to 8 gigabytes.
But also Wangdows itself is a memory leak, so as time passes, it naturally goes up. After about a month, it sits closer to 16 Gigs.
These values are NOT reflected in baseline task manager and only visible with third-party programs, cause Wontdies knows you won't give it up regardless of if they lie to your face or not.

I went with 64gb here for my typical Maya/Blender usage. If my line of work required VMs or video editing 4K files I'd have probably went for more. Only real thing I did upgrade since building this was the GPU, and holy fuck was moving from AMD to nVidia worth it for Blender.
>>
>>748883289
im doing fine with 8GB of RAM
>b-but the game requires-
dont play shitty unoptimized games
age of empires 1 is much better than this shit, it requires like 16MB of RAM and the whole game is 60MB
>>
>>748884447
Let's be real, Windows is a piece of shit and anyone still using it should be abducted by the government and used to test land mines, but it absolutely does not hoard 11 GB of RAM and even if it did it would cache that shit and free the memory if a game required it

Lowering the clouds from "ultra" to "medium" increases fps by 25%
They are some exceptionally pretty clouds on Ultra though I must say.
>>
>>748894654
Is it actual cloud sim, or is it just a voxel density option?
>>
>>748894527
Somewhat the same reasoning for me. I draw in large resolutions in Krita, and was tired of freezing my computer drawing in 4K on 8GB. 99% of the want for more RAM was just from that. But obviously it's nice for DaVinci Resolve and other creative programs like GMS2 that I can just always start up with, so if I want to work on something I just can without having to close other programs.

I honestly had no foresight into the future of AI. My old pre-built was starting to brick so I needed a new computer, and risked actually fully customizing a new PC for my needs. Took out a $2k loan, spent $1.4k on all the parts. Six months later my build was now valued at $4k.
>>
>>748889643
if you mean shader compilation then no, it happens on every boot and it goes down as you play but windows memory compression kicks in hard which reduces the ram usage

All medium really needs is a shader that darkens the clouds more on the crevices just to make the individual shapes stand out more rather than blur together.
>>
>>748896596
medium is also terrible in motion, it looks really bad
but then again the fps gain is massive
