KINO. The entire last level with overpowered gravity gun was cool as fuck.
>>748883702Credit where the credit is due. For a game with such weak gunplay and low enemy variety, they at least tried really hard to make the scenarios different throughout the game. Still prefer more enemies and weapons though.
>>748883819I quit half life 2 near the end because of the gun play, is insane how much better guns are in half life 1
>>748883873I was also burned out from the gunplay after the prison so I modded in 999 ammo for the revvy. i'm an aimtraining faggot so landing those one shots felt clean as fuck to me.>>748883819yep that gravity gun twist was very needed after the monotony.
bump. also can someone tell me where did breene go? I did not see him while I was trying to shoot balls into the teleporter but I could hear him talk.
>>748883702You did play it in VR right?
>>748884045>monotonyHalf Life 2 is constantly throwing fresh ideas at you. Literally every chapter has unique gameplay. Fucking retard.
>>748886232you are not wrong. but they weren't really game shaking in my experience. antlion grenade/strider sections were boring imo.
>>748884045The prison section. You mean Nova Prospekt. Where you have an army of ant lions at your command? Followed by the tower defense section with turrets. How the fuck do you get...>>748886351Ok so you're just a a faggot with shit taste.
>>748885616? He was in the lift at the very bottom rising to the elevator. That incarnation of Breen is dead now, btw.
>>748885616He diesThey just copy his mind and upload that copy into a grub
Half Life 1 and 2 are both incredible games and I’m tired of pretending they aren’t to appease contrarian Zoomers online who’ve never played either.
>tfw you recently realize you've spent over half of your life waiting for Half Life 3I know that feel, it's melancholy.
>>748886521There will never be a good groundbreaking FPS like Half Life againAlyx was nice taste imo if you’re a VR fan like I am at least.
>>748886412dunno why you have to get so offensive. just because I didn't like something doesn't mean it was shit.>>748886064no VR is too expensive.>>748886448>>748886457I did not see him. fuck. are you supposed to be able to see him? I was ducking and weaving from the incoming fire from the ships.
>>748886576Alyx was great and all but didn't really scratch the itch for a proper continuation of the series. I personally felt more satiated with the Epistle 3 headcanon than I did with Alyxs story. Problem with HL3 is unless they want to wait until brain chip gaming is a thing, there's no ground left to break. It can't bring anything new and revolutionary to gaming that hasn't been done in some form already.
>>748886692You didn't spot him as you were climbing up? I will admit it has been like 15 years since I played the game last but it was pretty obvious when I did it.
>>748886894With how dry and scripted fps games are today I think it’s entirely possible to make a fresh and novel game with current technology.
>>748887013no... he was talking the whole time but as you start climbing they tell you that you're on a 3 minute timer and I started jumping around trying to hurry.
Tyler "HL3 is still in dev"
>>748886064Of course You played it with the Krystal mod, correct?
>>748886517This.It's telling when the games that were pretty much universally loved by /v/ in the 2000s now have threads filled with contrarian retards screaming about how "shit" they are.
>>748883702she lives
>>748886894>I personally felt more satiated with the Epistle 3 headcanon than I did with Alyxs story.Alyx didn't really fucks with the trajectory of the story I feel. Eli being alive and Alyx being kidnapped didn't exactly erase the Borealis plot.
>>748889720nta, but we had over a decade of wondering how Eli's death would affect the plot and Alyx's mental state. Yes, this undoes something that happens in the last three minutes of the series so far, but in a meta sense it's fucking cheap and frustrating.
>>748889317physics engine still is miles better than nu aaa slop.
>>748889303The Videoessay industrial complex has poisoned the reputation of these games, lead by perfidious consolefags like Shredded Nerd. Now every zoomer parrots these opinions, maybe praising older “boomer shooters” (never played) or console shooters like Halo (never played) over Half Life (never played either)
>>748890215The joke to this punchline is that guys who grew up playing Doom, Quake and Half-Life tend to enjoy them all, and this weird idea of "Half-Life being the worst one/ruining everything" was just a tiny minority opinion that gen z guys latched onto.I still play all three regularly.
>>748889826In my head canon Valve ends the HL3 announcement trailer by shadow-dropping Episode 3 on Steam. It plays like one of the old source engine episodes but acts as a prologue to HL3 setting up some timeline convergence fuckery between the reality where Eli dies and the one where he lives. Maybe in HL3 Alyx from Alyx becomes an antagonist of sorts because shes willing to screw with timelines to save her dad. Maybe Alyx Prime has an arc where she briefly wants to help Alyx Alyx despite what it could mean for their cause. Maybe there's plot elements from Epistle 3 worked in, maybe there's some deep lore drops about the other intelligent civilizations and a satisfying ending to the current story arc that ends with Gordon in stasis again.
>>748890652It’s exclusively said by either young fans of modern “boomer shooters” or console babies
>Recent Deadlock and CS2 updates still have HLX codes slipped in them At least we know it's not cancelled (yet). Something must've happened last year when they were so chirpy announcing the Raising the Bar reprint and all the celebration on everything Half-Life, only to return to the 'radio silence' state as usual.
>>748887052AAA single-player-focused FPS games are so rare nowadays that a proper one with okay-ish gameplay would've been praised to high heaven. I think HL3 would do really well.
This guy visited Valve in septemberhttps://www.reddit.com/r/valve/comments/1wiit8a/had_the_opportunity_to_tour_valve_recently/>Was a very cool opportunity to tour while I was in the area and to speak with some Half-Life Alyx devs>I did see some steam frames being tested, but nothing secret, they do all of that on the secret floors and they dont take tour visitors there. They did make some jokes about half-life 3 though, I think they know it's all in good fun and that the community is eagerly awaiting the next installment after HL Alyx
>>748891701It’s not like MP fans will suffer either, HL and HL2 both spawned great MP games and I’m sure HL3 would do the same
>>748891859what happens if you spin the Valve valve????
>>748892369The water level of the entire building rises up
>>748892218Speaking of multiplayer, I do wonder if HL3 will have its own deathmatch mode. While HL1 has one, HL2 only had it tacked on because one dev really wanted to do it, and Gabe just so happened to give the okay. I dunno if they have the incentive to do it this time especially now that the format has changed a fuck ton now.
Half Life Alyx is a masterpiece of sci fi writing and it’s the 2001 A Space Odyssey of gaming. It directly addresses the physics elephant in the room of teleportation - that being its inherent time travel nature. When you teleport, you are really stepping into the past creating potential information paradoxes. And who better to truly expound on its true effects than the Gman himself who (it seems obvious now) can be in multiple superposition states and traverse the various multi universes and even merge them at will. But even all of this is so subtly and masterfully implied that it’s easy to not catch the gravitas of it. I think it also allows certain mods to be considered canon should Valve choose to ever expand on them, so it gives Valve writers a lot of creative breathing room.
also, galunga
>>748884045>aimtraining faggotthis nigger is unironically part of the aiming community lmao
>>748883702Episode 2 was surprisingly pretty good replaying these games all these years later. It's like they suddenly decided to actually design levels and enemy encounters. Would've liked some cooler weapons though. The final part with the Striders actually got my heart pumping a bit, it's pretty good.
>>748883819>weak gunplayhuh?
>>748886351Not enough scent trails for you? Or would you rather prefer to have a BLAST?
>>748892869Shame about Episode 3. Playing Episodes 1 and 2, it gave me the impression that they've finally gotten the hang of the gameplay, and Ep3 would've been more of it. The blob and the ice gun, the Arctic setup - shit looked so cash.
Is there a particular reason why the ammo capacity of every weapon was reduced compared to the first game? Is it to try to force you to use the Gravity Gun more? I think a better solution would be to just naturally make the Gravity Gun better than other weapons through the level design, which I actually remember them doing a few times in Episode Two. Also, I don't like shooting a guy in the face with a Shotgun four times and him not dying but that was an issue with the first game's hard mode as well.
>>748892863i had shit aim before. i am not really part of any community. just want to have better aim ya know?>>748892869im on episode 1 right now. back in the citadel tower. shits good so far.>>748893003scent trails would be even more boring cus you're just holding w. at least in the prison section i had to use my two braincells to set up the turrets correctly. but you really shouldn't get offended because I said I found something boring.
Valve devs admitted 2 AI was inferior to 1Video posted in 2009:https://youtube.com/watch?v=e0WqAmuSXEQ>Many of you whippersnappers may be too young to remember, but one of the biggest complaints about HL2 arising shortly after its release was the confoundingly dumb AI. As in, downright rock stupid. Dumber than a bag of particularly unintelligent hammers. Well, it's been several years since then (Over four, to be exact). Have Valve finally patched these long outstanding AI issues in the mean time? You be the judge!
>>748893346>a better solution would be to just naturally make the Gravity Gun better than other weapons through the level designBut that's exactly what they did
>>748893346>I don't like shooting a guy in the face with a Shotgun four times and him not dyingThe shotgun is strong af in this game. This never happens.
>>748893628Even playing the game a few months ago, the Combine soldiers would sometimes run to a random corner (I guess trying to get to cover?) and stand there with their backs turned to me. Also, if you flank them or basically approach them in any way besides exactly how the game designers expected, they have some granny-tier reaction time and are super easy to mow down.
>>748883702Held games back.Degenerate shit. Same as steam. Fans are victims with no taste.
>>748893628It's not like HLA learned a lot either. The AI for Combine soldiers is lobotomized thanks to VR format requiring them to be slow for normies. It's really obvious whenever you throw grenades at them.
i never beat the ending battle
