Replaying through AM2R right now and I'm not enjoying it as much as I did originally. I remember being impressed with how it took the original game's areas and made them into much larger set pieces. It felt a lot better back when I thought the series was dead as it felt like a loveletter to every metroid game and incorporated elements of the prime series.Dread ruined me though. I'm mercury steam pilled for better or worse and I genuinely prefer their close quarters take on metroid with their parry bullshit. So many times in AM2R I have a flying bug or robot zipping around Samus and I just want her to fucking swat it with a melee attack. I don't have this issue in any of the original metroid entries. The enemies in this game are just that fucking annoying. They have too much hp, they're too fast and more importantly the beams and missiles are too weak. I get that the point is so you feel stronger when you get the better beam or weapon of the area to deal with them but the rate at which your weapons are made obsolete in am2r is too fast. I shouldn't just be damage boosting through everything because killing shit takes too long. It's giving me rosy tinted goggles of samus returns and that's a game I genuinely do remember being clunky, slow and claustrophobic. I'm tempted to drop this shit and dig out my old copy just to see if it's any better
fan games are just better in quality now and am2r is just showing its age
Metroid was *breathes in* never good *breathes out*
>>748888262are they though? i can't think of any fan game that is on the level of am2r. the scope and ambition is massive and on that level i still respect the game for giving, what felt at the time, the series last hoorah and attempting to show what metroid 5 could have potentially played like>showing its agethis is the problem though. it's trapped in that pre-dread world. the qol's mean jack when the game isn't well developed around them and no longer has the benefit of playing like the "future" of metroid, when we already have it and went in a very different direction.
>>748888324after prime 4 i did have a crisis where i entertained that but my replay of super put those fears away
>>748888262Do people even make fangames anymore or do they just make spiritual successor bloatware for steamWargroove for example
>>748890664There are, just not for Nintendo properties. Too many C&Ds.
>>748888178It's been a bit since I've grinded out randomizer, but regular enemies are a non-issue for the most part. None of them move fast enough to be trouble shooting them down, and the bulky ones are easy to run past if you can't be bothered to kill them.Gameplan was something like:>Regular missiles (sub for charged spazer or regular bombs when convenient) for small fries>Super missiles / Powerbombs for urgent threats, swarm clearing, or softening up>Speedbooster straight through / passively dodging around to save as much time and ammo
>>748888178>I'm mercury steam pilled for better or worse and I genuinely prefer their close quarters take on metroid with their parry bullshit. You have terminal shit taste.
>>748888178>Liking parryslop Metroid.
