After the updates I'm forcing myself to try and enjoy this shit again but its just so mid and soulless, playing it almost makes me angry because it should be awesome but it just isn't, it's just a boring game at its core and I don't think the DLC can change this fact

The level of dynamism in the combat/physics is unparalleled, it just suffers from low enemy variety and low difficulty. Unfortunately reading the dev comments they were surprised western audiences felt this way and were originally planning to make the dlc even easier, so even if they backpedal now they don't know what they're doing or how to fix it.

In retrospect, I kinda think Itsuno & his team were pissed that Souls/ER got way more popular than DD, to the point that they were subtly dissing ER during the DD2 announcement

Now the warrior is actually viable for most enemies because he has a defensive barge option (along with a parry move), 4 skill slots before the update made it 6 and even has a fucking anti-air while not being too broken.I love DD1 but people really don't see how flawed it kinda is. 2 is flawed too but a lot of people have rose-tinted glasses or are just used to the quirks of DD1 to not see that a lot of it was genuinely kinda bad. I did enjoy DD1, and maybe I'm just a brainlet, but DD2 feels like there's simultaneously so much going on but also nothing happening at the same time. A lot of the systems feel needlessly complex, but also poorly described, but also unimpactful. Character progression feels somehow slow, but also too fast to get intimately familiar with your abilities. Feels like the world is massive, but I don't really know where to go, but also I don't feel rewarded for exploring. Plot happens to me, not because of me. I'd like to sit down and give it another good try when DA drops. Maybe I just need to start fresh when I've got less going on in my life and more time and energy to dedicate to playing longer sittings
