Steam Frame thread! Did you get yours already anon? Playing something cool?
>>
I exited from the wait list. I'll wait a few years while you beta test instead.
>>
>>748893809
I'm having a BLAST!
>>
>>748893809
I am waitlisted.
My new GPU I bought instead of the Steam Frame is pretty sweet, tho.
Too bad I'd only get the most use out of it by playing games with a Steam Frame....
>>
>>748893809
Waitlist is a nice place to sit until either:
>Pimax releases Linux support or open source drivers get there first
>BSB gets open source SLAM tracking
>Some other company releases a competent Linux headset with all the bells and whistles
>>
>>748893809
>Did you get yours already anon?
yes
>Playing something cool?
i tried iracing and it's terrifying
>>
I got one to upgrade my index. I'm surprised the tracking works just as well without the base stations, but I'm disappointed the dongle only works on SteamOS. Didn't work on CachyOS. But it can play anything standalone anyway, so it's fine I guess.

Right now, I'm looking for a decent way to integrate my treadmill with a game, so I can hike through virtual nature or something.

Still stuck in reservation hell.
I'm starting to think I may be there forever.
At least give me a fucking queue number so I have a general idea of when this email is coming, assholes.
>>
I don't think it has enough games of interest to justify the experience.
>>
Got the reservation e-mail this morning, lads. How long does it take before they let me buy the thing?
>>
>>748895162
Some people who got moved over to the reservation queue got to purchase a unit right away, others have had to wait.
Its very odd, almost like they're randomizing your position within the reservation queue an additional time, after moving you into it.
>>
>>748894539
>and it's terrifying
in a good or bad way?
>>748895067
wish you good luck anon
>>748895137
the VR scene might be at it's best right now. Tons of flat games being moded into VR in ways that make them feel almost native
>>748895162
I got into the reservation on the 17th, was allowed to purchase on the 23th, and got it here delivered yesterday. So 2 weeks from reservation until getting it
>>
>>748895162
I got my reservation day one, and i still don't got it. So don't expect yours any fucking time soon.
>>
>>748895256
well that sounds fucking stupid
>>
not using a steam frame but this Multiverse VR hub is fucking great, played banjo-kazooie in mostly first-person and now i'm playing some SRB2.
part of me dies when a VR dev focuses on 'comfort' and all that, whip my camera around and treat me like a bodiless observer WHENEVER YOU WANT. I find "oooo the player needs to be aware of their hands" and "we can't move the camera around without the player doing the moving!" shit to be so much less immersive than just doing whatever the fuck you want with the medium regardless of my mind-body connection
>>
>>748895256
The entire thing has to be random. I barely squeaked in on the sign up period and got put on the reg list, then my frame was one of the first batch they shipped out. Meanwhile of my two friends who signed up immediately that made it onto reg, one got shipped half a week after mine, and the other is still waiting to buy
>>
>>748893809
Got put on the reservation list Monday. Gotta wait for the payment email now.
Looking forward to finally playing Alyx.
>>
>>748893809
>200 listings on Ebay alone for Steam Frames, some people selling multiple
Whatever happened to those anti scalping measures?
>>
>>748895918
jewish clown world finds a way
>>
I got mine yesterday. I made plans with a girl to hang out tonight but I think I'm going to ghost her to get drunk and play stupid shit in VR
>>
got this 2 days ago, so I'm at 24 hours left...
Do I buy it?

God damn it! I wish Valve would just let me plop APKs on the thing like I can with non-steam games on the Deck! Instead I have to jump through some extra developer tools and external software?
Also I finally finished my pirated non-cucked version of Superhot VR! Gonna try to 100% HL:A's achievements.

Did anyone manage to fix the steam link streaming?

Reserve list is the actual waitlist
'waitlist' is the 'you lost, buy something else' list
people on the waitlist are never going to see a Steam Frame
>>
>>748895918
There's no guarantee those are all legit. And given that realistically at least 5000 Frames were delivered already I'd say these numbers are pretty good. Imagine how much worse it'd be if Valve didn't implement the raffles.

I'm going to have to respond with a "nah, I'd win". The current system just seems to add more bureaucratic delay to everything and gives equal priority to all scalpers.
In the previous system you at least had a chance if you didn't live in subhuman scalper central and really spamclicked your way through.
>>
>>748897432
Quest 3 is 'cheap' because they collect data about EVERYTHING they legally (and semi-/barely legally) are allowed to which they sell
You are the product, not the headset

Quest 3 runs locked down poodroid, so interacting with it means accepting every poodroid change pushed by Meta and using special poodroid compatibility tools for PCVR maintained by single trannies and furries who are guaranteed to ack themselves.
The Frame runs Linux, which means you can change everything about the headset, even getting it to brick itself or run minimal Steam software. Since it can use all Linux tools, you can interact with PCVR using tools maintained by entire teams of trannies and furries of whom only 42% will ack themselves.

chickened out, didn't feel right with the warranty at that price and reviewers were saying the same nitpicks which I didn't want

plus a few headsets started bootlooping and needed a support ticket, one guy doing a live unboxing was missing the headset

some saying build quality on some plastic parts felt a little cheap

no clear info who the currier would be

being an early adopter at that price point waiting for features is not for me, I really was excited for it and thought it was good purchase due to ram prices but the lottery system made me feel like I was pressured into making a decision

some cool stuff in the works though which is a shame to miss out on

he definitely got it taken as reparayshuns at some point in the delivery process.
>>
>>748897163
The funny thing is that they bumped a couple thousand people from waitlist to reserve list in the last couple days. While they've been sending out the absolute fewest order emails per day yet.
>>
>>748895256
>Some people who got moved over to the reservation queue got to purchase a unit right away
>source: my anus
>>748896562
If you want it you should send it through. A couple people that waited until the third day but still had time left according to the site got denied and had to email support to just get put back in the reserve list. Plus maybe your bank blocks the transaction for fraud and you have to spend an hour or three telling them to stop fucking with your money.
>>
I didn't know it was for sale already, gonna be a comfy winter for me.
>>
>>748898694

Got mine about a week ago. It's my first ever VR headset and I have been wanking off like fucking crazy to VR JAV, Anthro Heat, and Koikatsu. I am going to actually try to play Half Life Alyx starting tomorrow though I swear.
>>
>>748898959
What stopped you? For me in 2016 I thought it was a cool novelty but not worth 700 bucks to try and I was short on cash.
When the Index came out I got interested again but again the 1k pricetag again stopped me on top of being really addicted to some other game franchise.
When I heard tales of the Quest 2 being cheap as fuck 200 bucks machine during covid I really wanted to try it but it was non negotiable since I deleted all my facebook accounts and it was a hard requirement.
It was only around late 2022 when I did a big PC upgrade that I finally though it might time to look for VR headset that's been nudging me in the back of my mind for the past few years. I got a 300 bucks chinese one and I got hooked instantly.
I think I'm around 2k deep into VR now, which isn't a ton but way higher than I thought I'd spend on. No regrets though.
>>
>>748899192
I just keep waiting for that must play game that hooks me.
I can never justify the prices when at most I'll play modded RE games, skyrim and half life alyx.
The games made for VR all seem so lame and gay.

As a hopefully soon to be Frame owner I'm in danger. Every few months I'm sure I'll be eyeing some new stupid unnecessary accessory or upgrade. Like fuck it why not buy a full body tracking setup so I can windmill pose on niggas?

They mostly are with some exceptions but in the past 3 years I've been pretty much only playing flat2vr mods. Talking about RE I did 4 and 7 recently and it was pretty nice.
>>
>>748895918
There will always be some who just buy to sell it.
It's difficult to prevent that unless you implement much more extreme restrictions.
>>
Got mine yesterday, never tried VR before and it is pretty cool.

Could not get streaming to work from my Linux PC to my frame though, beta steam, beta frame and beta steam VR. Starting a game would just give me a grey screen on the frame and the game wouldn't start on my PC.

Wireless dongle works fine apparently, just plugged in and didn't have to fuck with any settings.
>>
>>748894263
I would have bought a Pimax already if their SLAM tracking wasn’t worse than my Reverb G2. It’s the only thing holding their headsets back. Outside of wireless, even their lowest end headset, the Crystal Light is a massive improvement over the Frame.
>>
>>748899751
Man I was enjoying flat RE7 but the bug lady boss filtered me. Might give the game another go in VR
>>
>>748899618
I've always had the cash on hands but psychologically speaking you don't know how much you're willing to spend on something unless you tried it.
I think it's the same dilemma of trying to convert a consolefag to full blown up PC set-up. Like how do you get him to go from a 500 bucks PS5 setup to 1500 for a nice PC + monitors + peripherals.
I think people really underestimate the price of entry into a hobby. When I got into VR and put my cheap chink headset on (that is still good right now mind you) I knew instantly after a week of playing "Oh yeah I'm willing to spend 1k on this".
>>
>>748899921
yeah some other anon said it doesn't work on cachyos neither, so right now it's either windows or steamos
>>
>>748899007
>never
never ever?
>>
>>748900001
I died 3 fucking time on that wiggly cunt ho. I ran laps around the house a few more times to get enough flame grenade launcher ammo and suddenly the fight was super easy.
Here's the minecart section from RE4R as well which was kinda cool.
>>
>>748900039
Very true in my experience. Tons of other hobbies will run you into the thousands easily. Like snowboarding for a couple months out of the year etc. A decent but not great electric bike would probably cost more than I'll spend on VR in the next couple years.
>>
I got mine recently and it's really cool. Never had a VR headset before so I'm having a hard time picking which games to start playing. Which games in pic related should I keep or delete from my cart? Figure I'll for sure get Hitman since it's so cheap.
>>
>>748899845
what they should have done was see which Steam accounts bought a Machine/Controller and never linked/registered it on that account, and then shadowbanned them from the Frame list as obvious scalpers
>>
>>748899923
i refuse to believe anything tracks worse than the G2
the screen clarity coming from a rift S was beautiful but goddamn even trying to two hand a pistol sent my hands flying all over the place
>>
>>748900113
People who were on reserve list for Controller in May STILL have not been offered to purchase it, waitlist is completely stalled as well
Same with Machine, people have been on the reserve list since day 1 and still no email, waitlist also stalled out
and you didn't sign up at all, you are at the absolute back of the line
So yeah, literally never ever. Production will end before your turn comes close to being up
>>
>>748900158
Hitman Part One does not include the VR mode. Gotta pay up for the full edition for that.
>>
>>748899921
>Could not get streaming to work from my Linux PC to my frame
>Wireless dongle works fine apparently
I had the opposite on Arch Linux. Wireless dongle wasn't connecting to the Frame initially but could easily connect to SteamVR. I fixed it with a reddit guide and turning on wifi and got it working.
>>
>>748900209
Did you have the V1? It was legendarily bad. They silently released a rev 2 in the middle of its life that improved the angle of the cameras and improved the cable.
>>
>>748900394
probably but i think the main issue for me was lack of IPD adjustment
>>
>>748895067
when i got in the steam machine reservation list it took 3 months to get the email to buy it
>>
>>748900475
That came with the v2 too lol.
>>
>>748900613
oh well ive got a quest 3 now and have no complaints
atleast with the latest update a few months ago the software was wigging out and virtual desktop was virtually unusable without an ethernet adaptor
>>
I got it, but I've been having some serious issues playing stuff native. If I try to run pretty much anything heavier than beat saber or superhot battery only lasts around 90 minutes. It can run some shit like into the radius (1, I haven't tried 2 yet), and blade and sorcery, but it's incredibly choppy.

Hoping for extendo battery packs soon, I'm feeling a little dread about it, cause it seems like it's just a wireless solution, which my quest 3 solved already (for me at least). The dongle is really cool, I guess.
>>
>>748900823
just get a powerbank or two, it'll be cheaper than whatever Valve puts out
>>
>>748900823
Would not surprise me to if we get a third party headstrap with a bigger hot swappable battery soonish. considering its like the biggest complaint people seem to have about it.
>>
>>748901192
oh yeh those after market company's wants to grab maybe 2% of 30k headset market
>>
It's likely this won't see another production run, if you are on the waitlist you are resigned to never getting one. Component costs are increasing rapidly and the current price won't be enough to justify costs. Valve will only get further heat for increasing the price and nobody will buy it as the price is already reaching breaking point.
>>
>>748900158
SRM on Steam?

When the FUCK did this happen? VR too?

People could have bought a Quest 3, three years ago and had the same experience.

>>
I ordered the color passthrough camera right away once I knew I was in the reservation queue. Silly of me to think Valve had their shit together to send the units out in a timely fashion. Nearly a year delay for what.

on reserve queue but no purchase email yet, getting a little worried now that the emails seem to be slowing down. I didn't get my reservation email on day 1, only like 10 hours later, which might mean i'm at the very back end of the queue

Might be steam VR is shite and need to use winVR or whatever
>>
Got mine yesterday, and the ergo kit today. So yesterday I was playing HL2 VR without the gamepad straps and honestly, even if it felt kinda shit at first, I ended up getting used to it and was interacting and throwing stuff without too much issue. It's much better with the straps ofc but, if you didn't manage to secure those, it's not the end of the world

>>748903478
It'll probably be a few more weeks before it works really smoothly on linux. You can probably get help in the VRonLinux.org wiki or discord if you haven't tried already.

How do you feel about the bigger nosepiece light blocker? I can just turn the lights off without it but I do wonder how handy and comfortable it would be to have.
>>
>>748903910
>How do you feel about the bigger nosepiece light blocker?
kinda neutral, since a lil bit of light still leaks through (I have a slim nose, skeletonman constitution). That said, once I'm playing a game and immersed in it, I don't notice that at all. My only complain with the frame so far is the battery life. Aside from that, it's a really good upgrade from the index.

Then you're confirmed fat, as only a fat person having their arms displaced slightly outwards from their bulging waistline wouldn't have the controller losing tracking problem. Its not a problem for any actual games but for social stuff like vrchat, it's a problem.
>>
Like, when my arms are straight down, straight vertical, the headset cannot see the controllers because my hands are blocking them from the line of sight, so they very slightly lose position unless I tilt my wrists forward intentionally which just isn't an organic relaxed holding position.
>>
>>748913797
if you dont stand with your arms perfectly straight in VR chat do you get viciously bullied or something?
>>
>>748913482
I'm actually super slim lol. I play with the controllers down and that never happened to me. Might be something related to your computer or your connection
>>
>>748893809
I got mine but I only used it a couple times to play Alyx because I don't have lens inserts yet and wearing the headset with glasses hasn't really worked for me, and I don't want to use all my daily contact lenses just to play VR. So I guess it will be a few weeks until I actually get to properly use it. I'm fine with waiting though since none of the VR video players work on standalone yet.
>>
>>748900001
Marguerite in VR seems like it would be too much, I feel like I'd have a heart attack
>>
>>748912895
there really needs to be better metrics for judging lens quality so we don't have this exact problem every time a headset comes out
>>
>>748912042
After 15 days only half the original reservation queue got their order emails and it appears that’s only going up by an average of 1-2% per day.
>>
>>748905436
Figured it out, use Proton experimental for VR games, not GE/Catchy proton. The streaming was hitching a lot though so I will use the script from steam to prevent scanning and see if it helps
>>
>>748893809
I got bumped from waitlist to reservation
we're all going to make it
>>
I've had mine since Monday, but can't properly use it because my contacts are out of date and I can't get new ones until tomorrow or next Monday.
And no, I'm not risking using my glasses even with the spacer which is fucking worthless.
>>
>>748915253
Where is this being tracked?
>>
I got my Steam Frame but it doesn't support Streaming VR from my Steam Machine to my Steam Frame.
So I uhhhh
I uhhh
>>
sold over $800 worth of cases to buy it, just waiting on valve to ship it now.
>>
>>748919642
What? Streaming works fine on Linux, not sure about SteamOS but as long as you're on kernel 7.2 or above it will work, SteamOS even has some helper scripts built in. What problem are you having?

Meta stopped bothering to debug the wired cable link for Quest headsets and they crash on Nvidia drivers newer than January
I'm sure you can work around it with Virtual Desktop or something but it shows they couldn't care less about PC VR
>>
>>748919642
... you are too stupid for vr, anon....
>>
I got my frame today. The hardware is fine, I guess I could use some more resolution but it is what it is. Ergonomics are also good.
Games are fine.
Software outside of playing games, and the general ease of use is a disaster, I truly feel like a beta tester. No wonder normalfags on reddit are crying about it so much. Some of the default choices are puzzlingly bad.
So if you feel bad about being on the waitlist or not getting your purchase email yet, don't. It will be a lot better experience in a month or two.

they announced that it wasn't going to be ready on release, small company please understand
>>748922680
it's weird how they playtest the absolute shit out of their games but couldn't do the same for the hardware experience
>>
Got mine today. I'm really underwhelmed.
The controller ergonomics aren't great. FOV isn't great. Image quality is fine but the contrast is pretty poor. Headset is quite light but felt very tight and hot, I couldn't find an adjustment that was comfortable.
The battery life is really poor. At least you can put a battery bank in your pocket and plug it in.
Standalone performance is decent I suppose, but you really need to stream from a good PC to get the most out of it.
I played it for less than an hour and then got motion sick and had to stop.
>>
>>748898518
My source is reddit, because Google kept recommending me posts of people bragging about the Steam frames they received after being pushed from the waitlist to the reservation list.
>>
>>748925803
nah
that was one or two retards that got confused
there was a "trick" to "see if you're waitlisted or reserved" before all the initial emails were sent out, but turns out this always told you that you were waitlisted even if you got a reservation
>>
>>748925573
>bad fov
>too tight
lmao this stupid retard can't figure out how to put on a headset right
>>
>>748922680
Yeah I'm wondering if I should cancel my order and give it a year or something.
Valve haven't hit the ultra casual plug and play stage yet like I'd thought they might.
>>
I might get one to play warthunder
>>
Anyone have one that has/had a Reverb G2? How is the edge to edge clarity relative to it? It doesn’t seem like a worthy upgrade unless that is a significant improvement.
>>
>>748895517
I loved how banjo kazooie looked in diorama mode but I couldn't play it because the n64 does so much unpredictable auto camera. I can ride in helicopters in forefront with 13 year old pilots but third person is still more novel to me I guess. There might be an option to turn the auto camera off I don't know.
>>
>>748897432
1) weight and ergonomics
2) eye tracking makes the ceiling for steam quality a lot higher with lower latency even though it's undercooked right now, foveated rendering, maybe foveated rendering over wireless but that's going to take latency breakthroughs like pyrowave
3)Standard gamepad controls will be extremely helpful for VR mods
4)Good FOV, it's almost 120 horizontal with 110 vertical and quest 2 binocular overlap. Quest 3 has shit overlap. Enthusiast headstrap may have more options to get the lens placement perfect.
5) Steam ecosystem, it's a desktop PC with translation layers to run x86 windows games and android apps, also good for flat games
6) expansion PCIe port is interesting and it can basically add anything to the headset that isn't better panels and optics
7) Better tracking
>>
I started playing Into the Radius, and I'll prob do Project Wingman after that.
>>
>>748900823
Get a small inui 10000mah battery and a flexible USB cable. Valve should've been honest that frame is a battery tethered headset with stock strap until they drop the hotswap headstrap or third parties make them. Really I think the stock strap should've supported a battery mount on the back though. I think you could do it without ruining headrests and pillow use.
>>
>>748893809
I'm playing "list it on eBay for 2x the price and have my YouTube video about why it's a piece of shit ready to publish the moment I get a buyer" (not a joke)

>>748901192
I want

1)hot swap
2)index audio
3)eye relief /tilt adjustment
4)magnetic charger for the batteries
>>
>>748904156
People should be warned the sound is shit, like worse than quest 2. It could have $1000 headphone speakers in it but if you put them that far away from the ears with no temple arms to funnel the sound, that shit does not work. I immediately noticed it's quiet, less present, and no bass. Fall off at 200hz is insane. That's basically midrange and you can't realistically depict male voices that can dig to 80hz.
>>
Is the wireless connection over the adapter good? That's one of the main things I care about over the Quest 3 since I don't want to fuck around with a new router.
>>
>>748908340
all slam headsets are like that. Valve at least freezes the controller position after a few seconds of hiding from LOS with no motion. Meta just lets it drift off 10 feet in front of you, even though the cameras would see it if it were actually there, and your arms aren't 10 feet long and your fingers are touching the capacitive buttons. Fucking stupid

I've seen jitter but it went away. I can't reproduce it. The only way I know to get jitter is to play in 72hz with music.

Your network sucks. Feel lucky your network doesn't suck and it switches to wifi only.

Meta is a mixed bag. They either nail it or it's completely retarded and they never fix it. They keep making shit worse with patches.
>>
>>748908450
Quest 3 has bad binocular overlap they sacked to get decent side FOV numbers, that's way worse and more eye straining than flawed lenses on the edges. The center 50% is clear and it doesn't get bad until the last 15% or so, don't exaggerate like it's fresnel. Actually just stick with the quest 3 you deserve each other.
>>
>>748925573
Retard + inexperienced with VR headsets. Almost all this shit is wrong.

G2 was my first VR headset. Also anything has better edge clarity than the G2 which had a famously small sweet spot. Subjectively without seriously examining it, frame is close to pic related. There's a little warping and actually quite a lot of chromatic aberration on the edges. But you have good FOV. Depending on who you are you can almost get 120 horizontal and 110 vertical with the stock strap. And the binocular overlap is pretty good, I think it loses out to only the pico headsets because those have almost no nose cutout for small asian noses.

The real problem is streaming quality. It's better with foveated streaming but it's like halfway between compressed shit and display port right now. Everyone is still waiting on virtual desktop on frame because steam link seems to kind of suck right now.
>>
>have to wait for the lenses to come in because theres ZERO room to wear with my glasses on
at least I had the foresight to order them as soon as orders went up but still holy fuck
never had this issue with my index
>>
>>748933547
You will either have no problems or you'll be a post on reddit asking for help.
>>
I've been on the list since August and nothing. I think if by December I don't get my order I'll just buy a pimax instead. I heard OLED is a gamechanger and I'm just using it for race sims so I don't mind other missing features.

Did Zenni make a total of like 5 lenses for the frame? They sold out immediately and you can't even scalp those since they're prescription.

Thankfully they haven’t sent me the purchase email yet and I’ve spent several day researching specs and capabilities. It is not better than a Quest 3 and costs twice as much. Its standalone capabilities particularly battery life suck. I’d also need to upgrade my GPU, CPU, and router to get good streaming performance. Its only benefits over the competition are weight and the fact it’s an open platform. Ps glad the captcha is an IQ test now.

Mine arrives monday or tuesday. I got the 1tb version.
I don't really need or want VR, I just wanted to flex on poorfags, and also to deny the hypothetical "next in line" dude like >>748894263
Have been looking into a few games to try with it though, aside from HL Alyx; X4, racing games and maybe some of those dumb little wagie sim games.

What's the point of sending the buy link individually when the Reserve/Wait lottery was done systematically?
You'd think they would spend more time verifying whether an account is legit enough to be worthy of a Frame than when those accounts will be allowed to hit buy.
I don't buy that there are just so many people, and the store servers are so weak that they can't get everyone sorted away in a couple days tops without any issue whatsoever.
>>
>>748932795
>over double the price for miniscule increases in quality of life if any at all.
>>
>>748934225
Uh huh. I've owned a Rift S since 2019. It has its shortcomings but the Frame is barely an improvement on any of them, and for comfort and ergonomics I find it worse. I thought I'd test whether the increased frame rate or improved tracking helped with motion sickness in continuous movement games - for me it doesn't.
At least it's untethered and I can uninstall Meta's defective software
>>
>>748893809
I got moved into the reservation queue last night.
Guess a bunch of people didn't want theirs.
